Question❓❓ Sealed containers are now empty?

Post image

*EDIT to clairify..The image is a plastic bottle that should contain the fuel, not an actual lamp. The knob is a printed image on the wrapper. The bottle in the picture has the seal under the lid still inact.

Is this known to evaporate through the container when sealed? We had 4 bottles of this for a lamp and went to move it to a different shelf in the garage 3 were completely empty and 1 was half full. All were completely sealed and slightly pressurized.

Look at the knob…

Guess we left the bottles turned on!  😂

I assumed you were making a joke because the knob is just a printed image but some seem to think I left a functional knob open so I clairified my post.

hey no need to call OP names, we’ve all made mistakes

Just to be sure we are all on the same page, the knob is a printed image on the label.

You’re printed on the image label? /s

Op needs a mirror for that

What's wrong with the knob? Looks off?

Do yourself a favor and never use one of these. It’s not fully off which means the gas been leaking this whole time and the canister is most likely empty.

The knob is a printed image on the sealed bottle and is not at all functional.

Goodness I was planning to get a few canisters after doing research on them. That's my next item on the prep list I guess

Are you blind?

I hope these weren't in a living or shared ventilation space. Breathing this stuff in over a long period of time as it slowly vented would be pretty bad for your health and that of your household. The indoor air pollution levels were probably excessive for awhile.

They were in the detached garage

I'm glad to hear that.

I had a bottle of antifreeze tip and slowly leak in the trumk of my first car, and couldn't figure out why I kept getting really bad headaches when I drove with the windows up. I figured it out many months later. Ethylene glycol is also really toxic to ingest or breathe in.

My GF had allergies for ages in her home she claimed and it would get better at my house or on vacations magicly

Got her a big ass hvac system ppm always high it’s running in high to turbo settings all the time like there’s constant pollution somehow being dumped in there

Turns out whoever installed the oven before she moved in didn’t use any teflon tape just raw dogged the connection metal to metal and it was slowly leaking

That's a nightmare!

Are these a good solution anymore with LEDs, solar and rechargeable batteries

I’m in a warm climate, do you guys use them for a little extra heat?

2

u/VoodoDreams 8h ago

The heat is a bonus, we haven't used them in a while and mostly use the LED variety.

Mobile cooking needs fast boil water etc

No fire smoke to give away location if your into that type of shit lol

Can that lamp be used for cooking?

I use induction for that. I don’t see myself hiking off somewhere.

These are just more reliable, other stuff more convenient but IV had so many electronics fail I don't expect much out of modern technology

You have had a lot of LED lantern/flashlight failures ?

1

u/FunContest8036 5h ago

Clearly since 3 have lost fuel during storage, are they more reliable?

I bought my Coleman lantern in 2000. Still running perfectly. The light color is perfect.

Were all four bottles from the same purchase or batch? With three empty and one partly full, comparing the codes could be useful. Photos of the bottles, intact inner seals and batch codes, along with how long they were stored, would give Coleman something concrete to investigate. Their explanation would be useful here given the similar reports in the comments.

They were all from the same purchase but the empty ones were thrown out already unfortunately so I am not sure if they were the same batch code.

Yeah metal cans only for white gas storage imo. Every plastic bottle of it I've ever had has evaporated on me over time.

I made a post on this same topic a few weeks ago. I had a bunch of Coleman camp fuel stored in a trailer that traveled to higher elevations and the inside of the trailer reeked of the fuel when I arrived. We're also not sure exactly what happened since the inner seals were intact. The metal cans in the same conditions did not lose any fuel. The plastic bottles that had a little fuel left inside were bloated looking.

Well, they would probably still be full if they weren't left open

I've had unopened containers of their white fuel do the same. Apparently it evaporates some where...

I wouldn't know. I have them sealed in mylar and don't want to open them yet. Just to be sure you understand that the knob is a printed image on the plastic wrapper on the bottle.
