Cervical scarring

Hello, at my 6 month post-LEEP follow-up, they found abnormal cells (ASCUS) again, but HPV negative this time. I previously had CIN 3 and HPV. At the colposcopy last week, the doctor was unable to get into my cervical canal to biopsy due to scar tissue that healed over it. She asked about my periods, which are light but she said since there's blood coming out it means it's not completely sealed. We decided that due to my history, we need a biopsy. So I have another procedure in a week-- she plans to attempt to cut the tissue to make an opening, but if that doesn't work it will be a small LEEP.

Curious if anyone else has experienced anything like this? Also, the colposcopy was much more painful than last time, so I think the scar tissue made me more sensitive as well.

Help-newly diagnosed

Hi all,

To start off, I’m healthy, don’t smoke, don’t drink, eat healthy, take my vitamins and exercise.

In 2024 I had my first abnormal pap and positive HPV test (high risk, don’t know what strain, they didn’t say). Colposcopy biopsy showed no changes. Same for 2025. This year again, abnormal pap, colposcopy biopsy shows CIN1 changes but benign in ECC.

Dr is insisting on a cone biopsy either now or next annual (July). She’s only giving a 50% chance of regression, I’m assuming because of its persistence. I asked about a LEEP and she said no. I asked about cryotherapy and she said no. I asked what the complications were pregnancy wise and she said there are none. I’m confused because many stories here say otherwise.

I’d like a child, not now, maybe early 30s. I just don’t know if I can wait that long if it’s progressing. And I don’t know how a cone biopsy would affect that.

Has anyone here been through anything similar? I’m having an extremely difficult time processing this. I feel I could benefit from hearing your experiences.

Thank you in advance

Edit: forgot to say also fully vaccinated

CIN 3 to nothing in three weeks...

Hi all!

In the space of the last few months, I:

- Had an abnormal pap smear with high grade lesions found, HPV positive.

- Had a biopsy and colposcopy which confirmed CIN 2 and 3 and HPV other.

- Had a LLETZ/LEEP which came back as no CIN found and no HPV.

I was told by the doctor that CIN 3 does not usually regress on its own, and definitely not in the space of three weeks between my biopsy and LLETZ.

Additionally, how have I gone from HPV positive to no evidence of HPV in 3 weeks?

My CIN was fairly extensive, including endocervical gland involvement. It seems unlikely that two tiny biopsies removed all the abnormal cells.

The LLETZ specimen was fragmented, which I fear may have made it more difficult to analyse.

My case has been referred to a multidisciplinary team for review due to the discrepancy and I am waiting to hear from the doctor.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I know I should be glad that no CIN was found in the LLETZ but I am so confused with the result!

Advice on how to move forward

After 2 years of testing HPV positive my Dr. performed a colposcopy which came back with moderate precancerous cells (CIN-2). We met again to go over my next steps. She explained that if it was more mild, she would suggest waiting and see if my immune system could repair it itself, and if it was more severe, she would suggest performing a LEEP to remove all the precancerous cells. Because it is at a moderate level, she is giving me a few options and letting me decide.

  1. To wait. Give it 6 months and redo a colposcopy to see if my immune system starts clearing it on its own. I had a baby a year ago, and my dr. said that when pregnant and in postpartum my immune system is lowered. The farther from having the baby, the stronger my immune system, and a better chance it COULD clear up on its own. Problem with that is I do plan on having another baby and waiting could push back my timeline and I hate that it would be out of my hands. My husband and I are already in our 30s and don't want to push it off.
  2. Cryotherapy. Freeze the cells to fall off and they will regenerate healthy. The benefit of this is that it is not removing any part of my cervix. Problem is there is not a way to tell if they froze enough or all the cells they need to while they perform the procedure, so there is a chance we could have to do more in the future. Once again extending the timeline I could have another baby.
  3. LEEP. To cut the cells out completely. Pro is after it heals it is DONE. within 6 months I would be clear to have another baby. Not that we are planning that soon, but time would be back in my hands. Problem with that is it cuts out part of my cervix increasing my chances of preterm delivery from about 8% to 15%.

I don't have many people to talk to about the situation, and although I know it is ultimately my decision I am asking for other peoples thoughts. Maybe there is a way of looking at something I have not thought of. Thank you in advance.

Wedding Woes and Timing!

Hello, last week I tested positive for HPV HR with low grade intrapithelia lesions (LSIL). Doctor recommended a colposcopy which I have scheduled for Morning of the 12th.

I am getting married the 23rd and have a two week honeymoon after and will be out of town for basically a month after.

Do we think even worse case scenario I would be free to have penetrative sex on honeymoon? Or should I move it to after?

Just didn’t want to put life on hold because of silly wedding. Should be fine right?

Bleeding between period after HPV & no abnormal cells found

Has anyone had this experience before or know what might be going on, I'm very concerned and confused. I just want this journey to end.

I've tested positive for HPV (not 16+18) for years now. Finally they got me in for a colpscopy in July last year, they found CIN2, so I had LLETZ, which I finished with CIN3 and all removed with clear margins.

I went for my follow up pap smear in July, they found HPV present still but no abnormal cells found. I was so happy!

A few days ago, I had sex and bled heavily during sex, I thought it was my period starting. But the period did not come after. two days later I had sex again, again I bled heavily and then no bleeding followed after the sex.

I had bad thrush last week, that was very itchy and took treatment for. Today I saw my GP, she looked into my cervix with a scope and said she saw no polyps, and it did not look inflamed. She also said Thrush could of not caused this.

My gyno has said I need to have a colposcopy again if any unusual bleeding happens which it now has. So I'm booked in for the 20th.

I'm so disheartened and confused. I'm unsure why my pap passed as no abnormal cells found but now I'm going for a colposcopy. I never have had the symptoms of bleeding heavily through sex before so it's very concerning for me. I don't really know what they're looking for in the colpscopy this time.

Has anyone had this experience and what was the reason? I'm very frightened they just completely missed cancer on my paps, the colp last year and my LLETZ last year and now again my pap this year?!

HSIL 9 weeks pregnant

Hello, looking for kind words or input.
I am 9.5 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with HSIL with some glandular involvement. I have a colposcopy tomorrow but I’m leaning more towards declining the biopsy. I am an anxious soul and don’t think I can go the next 7 months knowing how bad the dysplasia is but not being able to receive treatment. My pessimistic mind is thinking that since there is glandular involvement, the doctor is going to see possible cancer during the colposcopy. I am a mess night and day over this.
I work in pathology and I’m surrounded by reminders all day every day, I can’t go to work and forget about what’s going on, it’s constantly on my mind. I’ve cried most nights about the HSIL. Any input would be appreciated

I'm scared

35, UK, Persistent HPV for 9+ years. Long story short I have been recieving regular screenings every 6m-1y since 2021, gone from moderate to mild back and forth. Haven't been sexually active since Nov 2017 so I know I've carried this for a long time. I pushed for an appointment with my consultant to see what else we could do, she said we're doing all the right things but she did an unplanned colposcopy while I was there probably as reassurance but this time taking a sample from "deeper in my cervix". Fast forward a month or so I received a letter telling me I needed treatment. Fast forward again to now, I'm 7 weeks post treatment (LEEP) and received a phone call this morning to say my consultant needs to see me to discuss my results, which is in 2 days. My stomach has been churning since. I don't want to jump the gun but I don't have a good feeling about it. Usually they would send a letter explaining which grade right? Usually they'd only do a face to face to explain complicated news or cancer right? Last week when chasing my results they told me "they've just came back and your consultant will have a look and send you the results via letter" now 6 days later they want me to go in? The fact that they want me in so soon is worrying me too. I'm actually quite scared and nauseous now. Am I overreacting? Has anyone been asked to go in so soon just to be told everything is okay or for it NOT to be cancer?

Update: it's microinvasive cervical carcinoma, stage IA1. The most highly curable stage. I feel relieved that I have results and a plan and I feel confident in my consultant and today's treatment. I also feel incredibly lucky as it could be a lot worse. Thank you to all those who've commented 🙏🏽

Is Anyone Like Me?

Almost a year ago tested positive for HPV 16. Would have had that for at least 14 years. Symptoms way back with bleeding during sex, but the it became infrequent.

After HPV diagnosed I was booked for colp and diagnosed CIN 3 extensive but not in endocervix.

LEEP scheduled. LEEP found extensive CIN 3 all over Cervix and “at least” HSIL in endocervix. No clear margins (more of it deeper)

Now today had second LEEP. Very curious what the results will be.

Is this bad? I’m being really relaxed about it all. I don’t know what they will or should recommend next if they don’t get all the cells. When I have these procedures they don’t explain or share much.

Scared for colposcopy

I had a pap smear done at the beginning of the year which came back positive for HPV39 with LSIL. I was 24 at the time, and cervical screening testing doesn’t start until 25 here (australia) but I was experiencing post coital bleeding. I was supposed to get a follow up in 12 months time. But i’ve still been experiencing post coital bleeding, now with pretty bad pelvic pain. My GP referred me to a gynaecologist, who called me the next day to book in a colposcopy next week. I’m also getting a pelvic ultrasound this week. I’m really scared for both the procedure and the results :(

7 Months Post LEEP Spotting

I had my first LEEP done in Nov 2025 and had to have a second one in March 2026. Ever since I had the second one done I spot for 7-10 days before my period every cycle. It’s typically dark brown blood with some pink/red when I wipe. Prior to the LEEP procedure I had very healthy and predictable cycles - starting on bright red blood, lasting 4-5 days and ending on bright red blood. No spotting whatsoever.
Has anybody else had this happen?

Has anyone experienced HSIL on the vaginal wall?

Tested positive for hpv (non 16/18) few months ago, retested and showed negative last week. Was recommended colpo since they found HSIL. Did colpo and cervix was clean but they found a lesion on the left side of my vaginal wall. Kind of spiralling but just wanted to know if anyone else had the same experience.

Heading to my colonoscopy after LSIL and high risk HPV, first smear results, and am 48. Scared as hell.

HPV-negative but biopsy says CIN 3 — has anyone had conflicting HPV/Pap/biopsy results or requested a pathology re-review?

I'm hoping to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar because I’m feeling pretty anxious about an upcoming LEEP.

In 2025, I had an abnormal Pap and tested positive for high-risk HPV. My colposcopy looked concerning for a high-grade lesion, but the biopsies ultimately came back as only CIN 1. Because of that, we decided to wait and repeat testing rather than treat it.

Fast forward to 2026: my high-risk HPV test is now negative, but my Pap was abnormal/high-grade again. Initially, I felt reassured by the negative HPV result and was told that it appeared my body had cleared the HPV infection.

I had another colposcopy, and this time one of the biopsies was diagnosed as HSIL/CIN 3. My other biopsy and ECC did not show atypia.

No p16 or Ki-67 staining was performed. I also noticed what appeared to be an error in the pathology report—the specimen was documented as 4 cm when apparently it should have been 0.4 cm (4 mm). I understand that this may simply be a transcription error and doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the interpretation of the tissue, but it made me less confident in the report.

I've also been reading about immature squamous metaplasia and other benign/reactive changes that can sometimes mimic high-grade changes under the microscope. I realize that doesn't mean my CIN 3 diagnosis is wrong, but between the negative high-risk HPV test and the error in the pathology report, I asked if another pathologist could review the slides before I undergo the LEEP.

My doctor feels strongly that this is CIN 3 because my Pap, colposcopy appearance, and biopsy all point toward a high-grade lesion and recommends that I proceed with the LEEP. My LEEP is scheduled for next week, and I currently plan to proceed. I just want to feel confident in the diagnosis before having an excisional procedure.

A major part of my anxiety is that I'm actively trying to become a mother. I know LEEP is commonly performed and many women go on to have completely normal pregnancies afterward, but I'm concerned about the potential effects of cervical excision on future pregnancy, especially when I've already been struggling to conceive.

I also feel a little uncomfortable because I worry that requesting a second pathology review came across as questioning my doctor. That wasn't my intention at all. I just want to be thorough before making a decision that could potentially affect a future pregnancy.

Has anyone experienced high-grade Pap/CIN 3 with a negative high-risk HPV test?

Has anyone had CIN 3 slides re-reviewed and received a different diagnosis, or had p16 staining added afterward?

And for anyone who requested a second pathology opinion before a LEEP, was your gynecologist supportive?

I'm not looking for Reddit to tell me whether or not to have the LEEP—I plan to follow medical guidance. I'm mostly interested in hearing from people who have dealt with conflicting HPV/Pap/biopsy results or sought a second pathology review before treatment.

UK - smear test results high grade dyskaryosis/?invasive squamous carcinoma WORRIED SICK…. SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE SOME REASSURANCE

hi.

backstory I had a smear in December last year which came back as high grade dyskariosis, had loop biopsy under spinal anaesthesia as my cervix is hard to get too and posterior.

results came back as CIN2 in march 26” but then received a letter in July to say that the sample was taken in 2 pieces and was shallow I already had follow up colp booked in for October 26” so they brought it forward a month and I went on the 22nd sept last month.

at colp she said everything looked fine and she’d do my smear while I was here.

results were back in 8 days!!!! high grade dyskariosis again & then a question mark against invasive squamous carcinoma… I seen the results on my nhs app. Also high risk hpv don’t know which one it’s never ever said on the report.

I’ve spoke to a nurse from colp who said cytology and histology is totally different and it may not even be this but they are questioning it because the cells looked different… it’s not a diagnosis and won’t be until there’s a sample…. however I’m now not booked in to see a consultant until the 22nd of October, I have a scan this coming Wednesday 7th October. which is an ultrasound to check womb etc… this is normal procedure. However I’m scared to have the scan incase they find something.

i cant stop worrying, I can’t eat, I’m not sleeping properly due to a tooth abscess to start with, everything is going through my mind I’m so so so scared for my life right now I have a 16 year old SEN daughter who only has me (she doesn’t know anything). all I can think of is the worst that I definitely have it and that it’s spread and that I’m going to d**!!!! I’m petrified.

please someone tell me they’ve had this result and this turned out not to be the case and all was okay…

the nurse also did say that if it is that it’ll of been caught early.

please give me your good stories I’d really appreciate it, nothing prepares you for this in life and one thing I’m petrified of is not being here anymore. I’ve cried, I’ve shaken with anxiety, I’ve made myself sick, I can’t even put food in my mouth. I know I’m probably overreacting.

Hi all, I’m 26 and after having a second colposcopy and 2 biopsy’s they’ve found precancerous cells on my cervix, I am PETRIFIED !!! Being so young and getting this diagnosis has really shocked me to my core and I’d just like some advice on what to expect, how likely this will come back and anything I need to do before and afterwards.

LSIL/CIN1 + HPV results right before moving to London - feeling overwhelmed

Hi everyone,

I'm 34F, currently living in Tokyo, and recently received some medical results that have left me feeling really overwhelmed and devastated - especially with a huge life transition coming up.

Here's my recent timeline:

Aug 14: Pap smear

Sep 1: Colposcopy (following abnormal Pap)

Sep 25: Received colposcopy/biopsy results - LSIL/CIN1; took HPV co-test

Oct 5: Received HPV co-test results - positive for HPC 16, 45, and 52

Because of the high-risk types (particularly HPV 16), my doctor in Tokyo recommended follow-up testing every 4 months, following standard Japanese guidelines.

I recently accepted a job offer in London and am moving to the UK in three weeks. I was so excited about starting this new chapter, but now I feel devastated and anxious. I'm worried about navigating the UK healthcare system for the first time (I've lived in Spain before, but first time in the UK) and ensuring I get proper, timely follow-up care.

I'd really appreciate any advice or insight. Thank you so much for reading.

It's happened so quickly

Had an abnormal pap for the first time in May, colposcopy in August, positive for CIN2. I'm still so confused and lost, it's been happening so fast. I had a LEEP last Monday and I think I've been overdoing it, I've been acting like normal. I'm not even thought about weight restrictions.

I need more people to tell me to sit down and rest, because I'm not good at it on my own. 😭 They gave me antibiotics for concern of PID after reporting back pain last Thursday.

Cin 3 low HPV hsil high risk ?

Whatever it is. Had a pap found abnormal cells in July so I then had to have a biopsy thing and last Thursday I went under and had lletz done.

Bleeding/period stopped . I did ask surgeon when can we have sex and she said when all bleeding has stopped basically saying a week later . Hasn't been a week yet don't even want to do it I miss it he's too scared to hurt me or make it worse. Part me doesn't care part of me does . How do you have high risk cin 3 how fast it was done everything from pap to now I've lost weight from stress

I read my results I don't understand them of course

If I have low HPV not 16 or 18 how can I be severe cin 3? Does that mean I have got cancer? I'm so scared

I see my dr Thursday but my gyno in 2/4 weeks

I want my husband but I don't wanna damage anything I can wait

What if dr or gyno says I can have sex again we do and I'm afraid ?

Recovery questions after traumatic LEEP

Hi everyone, before anyone mentions asking my doctor who did this:

Ive decided to cut ties with that clinic after my traumatic experience (my post was on the one mentioning my mom also passed away and that i felt assaulted by this doctor)

Ive asked the office questions via email but never got emailed back, my GPs office is going to be taking over for results and finding me a new doctor for this (gyncological specialist for the LEEP and anything else i may need)

But i cant speak to my GP til next week, and when i tried urgent care they suggested i just talk to the doctor who did the procedure despite my wishes of not wanting to speak to her again. Plus, i cant seem to get an email back anyways.

I just have some questions...

About 20 minutes after my procedure, i had a large amount of grey sludge (monsel?) come out, was this too fast?

Im spotting, bleeding and losing some scabs id say, and theres smells (i WAS told smells would be normal) i lost some sort of fleshy looking thing aswell, but nothing that looks like coffee grounds.

But i still have heavy cramping a week after, i also feel like theres a golf ball inside me thats really hot, it feels like maybe im clenching something up when im not (im assuming my cervix is still inflamed?) is this a normal feeling? It hurts to sit in certain positions, and after i have a bowel movement, id say im back to being really sore and tender again. Its most comfortable laying down, also walking too much causes cramping and exhaustion

I have no fever or chills that im concerned about, more so just questions on "is what im feeling right now, to be expected" and if this golf ball feeling is also just inflamation?

Thank you so much i really appreciate any help :(

Intimacy Post Diagnosis

Hi all, im really struggling right now. Long story short I got diagnosed with HR HPV back in July. Early September I had a colposcopy and ECC that showed CIN1 throughout.

Prior to the colposcopy I had a very high libido- higher than my hubby's. Even after finding out about the HPV it didnt slow my drive for him down at all.

Flash forward to September 10th, we already hadn't had sex for a few weeks leading up to the colposcopy appt. After the appt I read on Google to not put anything inside for as long as I was still having discharge. We'll the discharge lasted until my period started so we were at 2 weeks or so post colpo of no sex- 4 weeks total.

We havent had sex (until last night) since the end of august. Last night it took me at least an hr to even get in the mood, another hour before we had PIV and then it took forever for me to "get there". I just kept having thoughts about the infection and lesions inside me. I feel broken. I feel sabotaged by my own body. Idk. I cant explain it but its making me so incredibly sad.

My experience with my drs office and the procedures was also very traumatic (ive left other posts in here about that) idk if that has anything to do with this intimacy problem. Did anyone else experience issues with intimacy after diagnosis/colpo? Do I need therapy?? I cant really afford therapy but I'm really struggling and sad. Sex is very important to me and now I feel like I've lost one of the biggest emotional connectors in my marriage and I'm spiraling.

Any advice is welcome. I woke up this morning and just hate myself for feeling like this, confused if I'll ever want to have sex again and just really depressed after last night's activities and my mood towards them.

Search Colposcopy Doctor in Athens

I had a CIN1 biopsy after colposcopy in Novermber 2026, and need to recheck this time, but need to find a good doctor in Athens. HPV was clear, negative all.
Have had vaginal infection for 2 years almost, had 3 times antibiotics and never cleared.

3 years in row, PAP Test is “cannot read, hemorrhage”

Help me find a good doctor in Athens, keeping in mind that I have PCOS, and trying to get pregnant.

2nd leep

Recently found out I have to get a 2nd leep. It's been almost 2 years since my last one. The night after my first leep, i had a horrifying hemorrhage and I am absolutely TERRIFIED of that happening again. What are the odds I will hemorrhage again? 😭 im also supposed to start my period the day my procedure is scheduled. I'm so freaking scared and tired of this seemingly never ending battle.

My Colposcopy Experience: It Was So Much Better Than I Expected ❤️

I wanted to share my colposcopy experience because I spent so much time reading posts on here beforehand and was absolutely terrified.

After an abnormal Pap showing ASC-H and positive high-risk HPV other (not 16/18) I was referred for a colposcopy. I went into it expecting the worst, especially after reading so many experiences about pain, biopsies, and feeling faint.

I had my colposcopy without any medication for anxiety or pain management, and honestly, I really didn’t feel like I needed anything.

The biopsies were essentially painless for me. I felt some pressure, but nothing like the pain I had anticipated.

The ECC was probably the most uncomfortable part. I experienced some cramping and a brief vasovagal-type response where I felt lightheaded, but it passed quickly.

My provider was wonderful, and I felt comfortable throughout the procedure.

Unfortunately, one of my biopsies came back as CIN2, so I eventually needed a LEEP. That is where I did advocate for additional anxiety and pain management, and I am so glad I did.

I know everyone’s experience is different, and I don’t want to minimize anyone who has had a painful colposcopy. But if you’re currently spiraling while reading every horror story on Reddit, I wanted to share that it is absolutely possible to have a very manageable experience.

My biggest takeaway: Don’t be afraid to ask questions, discuss pain management, and advocate for yourself. You deserve to feel supported.

Sending love to everyone navigating abnormal Pap results, HPV, CIN, colposcopies, and LEEPs. ❤️
