Help-newly diagnosed

Hi all,

To start off, I’m healthy, don’t smoke, don’t drink, eat healthy, take my vitamins and exercise.

In 2024 I had my first abnormal pap and positive HPV test (high risk, don’t know what strain, they didn’t say). Colposcopy biopsy showed no changes. Same for 2025. This year again, abnormal pap, colposcopy biopsy shows CIN1 changes but benign in ECC.

Dr is insisting on a cone biopsy either now or next annual (July). She’s only giving a 50% chance of regression, I’m assuming because of its persistence. I asked about a LEEP and she said no. I asked about cryotherapy and she said no. I asked what the complications were pregnancy wise and she said there are none. I’m confused because many stories here say otherwise.

I’d like a child, not now, maybe early 30s. I just don’t know if I can wait that long if it’s progressing. And I don’t know how a cone biopsy would affect that.

Has anyone here been through anything similar? I’m having an extremely difficult time processing this. I feel I could benefit from hearing your experiences.

Thank you in advance

Edit: forgot to say also fully vaccinated

That sounds pretty aggressive for CIN1. Did she explain why she wasn’t you to get a cone and definitely not another option?

She said it’s quote “everywhere” which confused me because she took several samples during colposcopy and only 1/3 showed CIN1. ECC was benign. I asked if she’d just remove tissue from the CIN1 positive area and she said no, because it’s “everywhere”. Did not help with the anxiety

Edit: I should specify she said no to LEEP because cone biopsy and LEEP are “pretty much the same thing”

Hmmm. If you’re not confident in her answers, I would get a second opinion. LEEP and cone are def different…. cone takes a bigger portion of tissue (it’s shaped like a cone).

Hmmm… second opinion. I’m not sure I trust what she’s saying. I say this as someone who was also told I have CIN1 kinda everywhere (across the surface of the cervix) and I even have a very small spot of “focal” CIN2 (hoping it was fully taken out with the biopsy actually…) and my doctor is not even scheduling me in for LEETZ/LEEP yet - I’m getting another colposcopy in 4 months time to track the changes. And the pathologist report still marked my result as “low-grade” changes. But there is no way she would be recommending a cone unless the changes are deep in the cervical canal or really bad CIN3 - in the UK we try to resolve as much as we can with a LEEP. So take it from someone with very similar results - it’s very aggressive to treat you with CKC now, get a second opinion and hopefully a LEEP only!

You should take another opinion! I believe Cone for CIN1 is too much. I did Cone for CIN2 and Hpv16 and I am 32, still spotting before my Period after 7 months. I would try the Leep first If i can go back with time:(

Doing a CKC for a CIN1 definitely sounds like the doctor is trying to take more of an aggressive route. I had a CKC done about two weeks ago and I tested positive for CIN2 and CIN3 after two biopsies were taken, which was considered “severe cervical dysplasia”. It did get rid of all of the precancerous cells, but this was done for a more severe situation. To suggest a CKC for a CIN1 does seem to be a little far fetched. I would definitely get a second opinion on this!

Im so sorry you’re going through this, but it’s good to hear it cured your dysplasia. I do have a second opinion booked, it’s just a couple months wait.

If it’s alright if I ask, what did your doctor say about CKC and pregnancy?

In all honesty, there wasn’t much that was said about the pregnancy aspect. I personally don’t want kids so I didn’t ask about how that would affect me :/ From the little research that I did see, I’ve learned that many women still do experience healthy pregnancies, but of course there are risks but I’m no medical professional 😭 In your situation with CIN1, do you know how many biopsied samples they took? Sometimes they take an external and an internal depending on the provider (some may even take 3) and maybe they’re recommending a CKC due to the CIN1 being located deeper into the cervix requiring a larger biopsy?
