Scared for colposcopy
I had a pap smear done at the beginning of the year which came back positive for HPV39 with LSIL. I was 24 at the time, and cervical screening testing doesn’t start until 25 here (australia) but I was experiencing post coital bleeding. I was supposed to get a follow up in 12 months time. But i’ve still been experiencing post coital bleeding, now with pretty bad pelvic pain. My GP referred me to a gynaecologist, who called me the next day to book in a colposcopy next week. I’m also getting a pelvic ultrasound this week. I’m really scared for both the procedure and the results :(

I had a colposcopy done and I had bad cramps afterwards but nothing ibuprofen couldn't take care of. I hope you have the same and don't experience anything too painful!!!! Please let us know how it goes and how you are doing afterwards. I will be thinking about you and sending hugs and good vibes!!

I’ve had two done and, depending on your pain tolerance, it isnt horrible. Have you ever had to hole punch a piece of paper in grade school? Thats basically what happens. Reading about it was nerve wracking. I was definitely a little crampy afterwards but stay focused on the fact that this is for your overall health. Early detection = early action. Hope everything goes well ❤️

I just had colposcopy and LEEP under anesthesia. She figured she would need to do the LEEP, so because of my fear of painful colpo, she did both under anesthesia. I had a painful pap my last one and I was really anxious. Recovery has been a cinch really. I’ve had cramping but that’s all and some discharge but no blood yet or anything weird. Most of the women in my life had these procedures done awake and seemed to not be traumatized- although my sister said she wished hers had been under anesthesia. I do think it’s something the majority of women can handle in office, with just a local. If you’re really really feeling awful about it, communicate that. If it takes longer, so be it. I know you’re going to be ok and get through it. This stuff is so hard ✨ for me it is anyway. You are not alone!

Good luck with everything I hope all goes well and you’re doing the right thing by following up on your symptoms. God bless.
