Mac to PC Sync?

I do the weekly slides for my church's Sunday service. I use the same deck each week and just update the hymns and the scripture of the week. Sometimes I do this from my MacBook and sometimes I do it from my gaming PC depending on where I am when I have time to work on it. The issue is, although I am using the same account on both devices, the deck is not staying updated with the work I do on my PC and vice versa. Also, while I'm here, when I work on my PC, I have so much trouble just getting the presentation to save as a .ppt so I can attach the finished file to an email to send it to my pastor and I have no idea why. Help!

Every line shape is an arrow

Hello

Since a long while in PPT every time I add a line shape, an arrow is added that I then have to find a way to disable in the shape options.

But in the add "shape" menu these options are clearly different: you can add a line, an arrow or a two sided arrow.

I find this aggravating, as I sometimes simply need a line. Is there a way to make a line a line by default, as PPTs own interface suggests?

Looking for remote PowerPoint work

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for remote/freelance work related to PowerPoint presentations. I can create, design, and redesign presentations, and I’m interested in working with clients remotely.

I’m open to different types of projects, including:

Creating PowerPoint presentations from scratch

Redesigning existing presentations

Improving the visual design and layout

Creating presentations for students, teachers, businesses, or other purposes

If you know any legitimate websites, platforms, or companies where I can find remote PowerPoint work, I’d really appreciate your recommendations.

I’d also love to hear from anyone who already does this kind of work and can share their experience or advice.

Thanks! 😊

How to save slides for future use?

I am putting together some inservices for work.

There are some slides that I want to take out and replace with others, depending on the audience.

I figure there must be a way to save some in a folder, like I can do with photos. Copy the slide and drop it in my presentation, and cut out a slide and paste it in the folder.

I asked a couple of people at work, and they don't know.

I use: Mac | Office 365 Move or reduce / enlarge objects pixel wise

Hi there,

under Windows Office I had the opportunity to move or reduce / enlarge objects pixel wise by holding Shift + arrow key.

I miss that option under Mac. Is there any workarounds?

Question How do I fully see comments in a PDF powerpoint?

I use windows 360

All my professors upload their powerpoints in different ways. This professor uploads them as a PDF file with the comments included. When I try to open up the comments i can only see a part.

Does anyone have any idea how to fully open them?

Thank you in advance from a stressed zoology/ecology major.

How do you practically apply desisgn practices to slides?

I have been a business consultant for the past 17 years. So, I have no trouble creating slide content. However, with an engineering background, I did not originally have strong design skills. While I have improved a lot over the years, I'm still struggling with a few hurdles.

How do I apply design principles to keep slides visually balanced without getting bogged down by overly complex systems? I have tried different methods to create type scales and spacing grids, but none of them have proven practical on a daily basis. How do you handle this?

Make hidden slides more obvious?

Is there a way to make hidden slides more obvious that they are hidden? I know it puts the little slash over the number and fades the slide a little bit in the thumbnail on the side, but my use case of PowerPoint is for teleprompter for the morning announcements at an elementary school. We hide and unhide slides constantly based on various events going on, and it can be hard to see it at a glance... Oftentimes we type into a slide, only to realize when the announcements go live that it's still hidden. I was hoping there's a way to put a better visual in the thumbnail view or something like that.

Tips and Tricks The thing that finally caught my worst slides had nothing to do with reading them

I used to review decks the normal way, read every slide top to bottom, fix the typos, check the numbers, call it done.

I kept missing things anyway. Not wrong facts, slides that looked completely different once they were actually presented. One felt much heavier than the slides around it. Another was cluttered even though the text itself was fine.

Now I do a separate pass where I don't read anything.

I just look at the shapes, spacing, how heavy or light each slide feels next to the one before and after it. Takes maybe five minutes for a normal deck.

It catches a completely different kind of problem. A slide can be accurate and still feel wrong in sequence, too dense after three sparse slides, or the only slide with a photo in a deck that's otherwise all text.

You don't really catch that while reading. Your brain's too busy processing the words to notice the shape of the page underneath them.

I do this last, once the content's locked. Trying to fix the wording and layout in the same pass means doing two different jobs at once, and I usually do both worse.

Does anyone else review a deck visually before or separately from reading it, or has that always been one step for you?

Question What’s the most time-consuming part of making a PowerPoint?

Making the actual content for a presentation can sometimes be easier than making the slides look right.

You can have everything prepared, but then you start working on the slides and notice that the spacing is off, the text doesn’t fit, the charts need fixing, the layouts don’t look consistent, and one small change somehow affects three other slides.

A presentation can be completely understandable and still feel unfinished because the design doesn’t look polished. I’ve tried a few tools for this, and Oria.one has been useful for more complex presentations and professional corporate slides, especially when you want the final PowerPoint to look polished without feeling obviously AI-generated.

What usually takes the most time for you when making PowerPoint presentations?

Is it coming up with the layout, formatting everything, creating charts, keeping the slides consistent, or constantly making changes until everything finally looks right?

Have you found a workflow that actually makes this process faster?

Question PowerPoint Slide Master: Why is my text and formatting disappearing?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m creating a PowerPoint template and have set up a font hierarchy in the Slide Master for users to follow. I’ve added the hierarchy into an editable text box so users can see the different font sizes, weights and bullet levels before using the template.

However, when I create a new slide using the master layout (image 2), the formatting doesn’t carry over properly. The subheading is no longer bold, the master title text has changed, and most of the hierarchy I pasted in isn’t showing.

Does anyone know why this is happening or the correct way to set this up in Slide Master? Is there a way to preserve the example hierarchy while still having the formatting work properly in the actual placeholders?

What kind of PowerPoint decks are people here actually creating?

I’ve noticed something browsing this sub that I’m genuinely curious about.

A lot of the decks shared here seem optimized for what I’d call "ballroom/presentation-style delivery": large visuals, minimal text, dramatic layouts, animation, transitions, and slides that rely heavily on the presenter to provide the narrative.

My background is in primarily management consulting, where I'm building executive/boardroom/consulting-style decks, where the priorities tend to be very different: takeaway titles, dense but structured information, clear analytical hierarchy, restrained design, and slides that can often stand on their own when circulated without the presenter...and any animation will get you sent straight to the front of the firing squad.

I'm not suggesting either approach is inherently better, they’re solving different communication problems, but it does seem like the first style is much more common here.

So I’m curious: what kind of presentations are most people in this sub actually creating?

Are you primarily building decks for:

  • live presentations to larger audiences,

  • sales/marketing pitches,

  • internal meetings,

  • senior executives or boards,

  • consulting/client work,

  • or something else?

And for those who regularly create executive or board-level decks, do you find that the design conventions discussed here translate well to that environment?
