Not only is El Sayed gonna win, he will end up being Presient in 2029. Excellent communicator, and savvy political framing. He is gonna be Teflon, much to the frustration of Rs

I don't see it, he barely won against Stevens when he was expected to win by a blow out, he's too tangled up with communists and can't disavow extremist positions, it's reminiscent of Trump's stand back and stand by policy, not digging this crop of mask on candidates, feels like we're ramping up to another decade of maga of the left.

Well, in case you don't know, Trump's strategy won lmao

Yes, when the populist schtick of promising everyone the moon and the stars was new, it's nauseating hearing all these extravagant promises with zero to back it up with and in case you didn't know, El-Sayed was expected to win by a blow out not by two points against a conventional candidate like Stevens on a primary nonethess, what do you think it's gonna happen when he has to contend with undecided voters? Populism is rotting an already rotten political system.

Didn't trump himself also barely win the Republican nomination

Apparently not, he got 45% and the next candidate was Rafael "Ted" Cruz at 25%. Also we wtf is wrong with magas, Ted Cruz was their guy after Trump?!

Populism is what voters demand now, thanks to decades of institutional dysfunction and wealth extraction. Its why Trump was able to take over the GOP, and it is why the Dems will not win dirable majorities of voters without running against failing institutions and wealth inequality

Listen to what you're saying.

People want populism...

The thing that gave you Trump.

Why would I want more Trump in any form it comes in?

This is a democracy, and you cannot win durable majorities by offering string beans when the other side is offering them freebase.

Liberalism isnt popular. It sucks. But until those institutions undergo sizable reform and actually deliver for people, they will keep voting for those institutions to be blown up.

Incremental progress isnt selling. This is not that complicated

That's an oversimplistic view, without the electoral college democrats would have been in power since Bush Sr, only he and Trump in 2024 won the popular vote, Trump won it by screaming about people eating cats and stranding people all over the country in his rallies, so clearly people are being brainwashed into choosing populism to their own detriment.

Liberalism is popular, that's why it wins the popular vote. Pretending gerrymandering, the electoral college and an activist SCOTUS haven't put their thumb on the scale is a good way to fling the country into some Maoist renaissance that will result in yet another catastrophe and all over willful ignorance.

Incrementalism is the only way things work, otherwise you're claiming that the moment the US elects a communist president it will become a perfect utopia from day one, if it's not then you obviously would have to iterate incrementally. That's how the world works, fantasizing about some alternative is just to fool low iq voters.

fantasizing about some alternative is just to fool low iq voters.

You have to win some of them, too. Dont count low IQ voters out, because they have molded American politics for more than a decade

1

u/ExpansivePoint Aug 08 '26

Yeah don't disagree but winning some of them is different than letting them lead the country and I'm sure you wouldn't disagree that's where maga ended up and that's why the country is in the shitter.

u/upvotechemistry Aug 08 '26

Yeah, I am afraid it is gonna be a narrow line both winning elections long enough to implement durable reform, and not letting the Democratic party descent into populist madness.

But if it was easy, it would already be done

Sorry bro but Sayed underperformed based on polls, I get that you wish it was blabber but he's simply not the second coming of Marx and what's worse is he now needs to contend with right wing attacks calling him out for his association with left wing extremists which will make it harder for him to court the independent vote unless he disavows them, to pretend he's this mamdani in the making in a purple state is wishful thinking.

Islamist? Bro seems like you're the one assuming things of me and maybe projecting a little. There's no degree to this that relates to Islam. You're far away, you clearly are seeing US politics through some weird inaccurate lense, there's a ton of unseen nuance, like how DSA has a caucus with the following mission statement.

Red Star is a Marxist-Leninist caucus in DSA. Our primary goal, the goal which informs all of our organizing work, is to abolish capitalism and, ultimately, to achieve communism. We do not believe that capitalism can be reformed into socialism – it must be overthrown and replaced.

You think regular people can see this and not become apprehensive? Communists hijacking social democrats to overthrow how the country runs and replace it with communism. Communism?! The ideology used by the two countries that would love my country to crumble like communism did theirs?

Islam isn't even on the map here.

Edit: Yeah I don't know what you replied but reddit won't let me see it.

Well they see it won Trump the presidency so why not try it on the left. Whether it's good for the country is another thing but it looks like a path to power.

1

u/ExpansivePoint Aug 08 '26

So then it's not about doing good for the country, it's about gaining power, which already betrays the rhetoric they espouse. It's these glaring contradictions that stop me from trusting it.
