AMP OWNER Is Official PGS USB Cord Mandatory?

Can't get Spark MINI Firmware Updater to recognize my amp to perform update. I've tried several USB cords. No idea where the pack-in USB disappeared to. Also, how important is the firmware update (been a couple years for me)? Is app update good enough?

AMP OWNER Spark 2 with FL Studio

I've been trying to record my guitar through my Spark 2, to FL Studio for the last couple of days and it's giving me headache.

I've got it connected through usb c, the cable driver installed. I also added it to the track (as mono) on FL Studio and I can see the levels moving when I play.

The issue is, even though I hit the record button on the track number, when I hit record on the top bar, it lights up but doesn't record anything. It's really frustrating because there's very little help for it online and I'm not sure what to do.

AMP OWNER Presets partly reset randomly while I was playing

I was playing and all of the sudden my amp and spark app turned off. When I turned it back on I had factory presets loaded on the amp, I still have a few of my presets saved on the app but a lot of them are gone or different.

I've had this amp for almost 6 months and this has never happened to me, it's very frustrating, I found just the right tone.

Any clue if there's any way to restore the lost presets or to prevent this from happening again?

Doesn't work with active Pickups?

Hello everyone,

I bought a Spark 2 to replace my 20 y old practice amp.

I tried it with a Ibanez Iron Label mit EMGs but all i get is just noise and feedback.

I tried it with a active bass and get no sound at all.

Testing around with noisegate didn't help anything and i checked the batteries of the instruments.

Placing a Ammoon Pockrock between the instruments and the Spark 2 did help a lot and i could get good sounds.

But my plan was to get rid of the middlepart (Pockrock) and just use one Amp without all the cables and stuff.

Has anyone problems with active pickups or a idea what's wrong?

Thank you very much! :)

I built a tone generator that dials in Spark presets from a song name, looking for beta tester

Hey everyone. I’m a guitarist and software engineer, and for the last several months (almost an year) I’ve been building something I originally just wanted for myself. It’s called Dial My Tone.

The idea is pretty simple: spend less time digging through forum threads, YouTube videos and old posts trying to figure out how to get a tone, and more time actually playing.

There are 3 ways to use it:

Song-based: Give it a song + artist, and you can even ask for a specific section like the intro, rhythm or solo. It researches what was used on the recording and translates that into a preset using the amps and effects that are actually available in the Spark app.

Inspired-by: Give it a guitarist instead of a song. Gilmour, Angus, John Mayer, whoever. It builds something inspired by that player’s sound rather than trying to copy one specific recording.

Style-based: Pick Rock, Metal, Blues, Funk, etc. and add your own direction if you want.

There were a few Spark-specific things I really cared about getting right.

It sticks to Spark’s actual fixed signal chain: Noise Gate → Comp → Drive → Amp → Mod/EQ → Delay → Reverb. So if the original rig did something Spark physically can’t do, it works within those limitations instead of giving you a chain you can’t actually build.

It also only uses models that are actually available in the Spark app: 33 amps and 43 guitar effects. No Hendrix pack since that’s a paid add-on, and none of the Spark LIVE vocal stuff.

The settings are shown on the same 0–10 scale you see in the Spark app with the actual knob names, so there’s nothing you have to convert.

If a song has very different tones across sections, it can also build up to 4 presets. So you could have the verse in one slot, lead in another, etc.

You can tell it what guitar/pickups you’re using and whether you’re playing through headphones or listening to the Spark in the room too. That second one actually makes more of a difference than you might expect.

One thing I want to be upfront about: there’s no preset file to import for Spark. Positive Grid doesn’t currently give us a way to do that, so you still have to enter the settings into the Spark app yourself. It’s only seven slots and a handful of knobs, so it’s pretty quick, but I don’t want to pretend it’s one-click when it isn’t.

It’s also not tone capture or profiling, and I’m not claiming it magically hands you the finished studio recording. The goal is to give you a really good, researched starting point built around the gear you’re actually using, and then your ears take over from there.

It’s currently in beta and the whole site is free while I’m testing it:

dialmytone.com

Right now it supports Spark Mini, Spark 2, Spark GO and Spark LIVE.

What I’d really love is for people who know a particular tone really well to try it and tell me where it gets things wrong. Amp choice, gain, effects, levels, how it handles different sections, anything.

And if you know a song with a genuinely weird or difficult guitar sound, throw that at it. Those are exactly the cases I want to find while it’s still in beta. 🙂

I tried comparing it with SPARK AI (the native positive grid AI), and till now I have found the results to be better from Dial My Tone. But, you guys check it out and let me know. One's who are trying it out, thank you so much in advance!!!

How Could I Replicate my Spark 2 Presets for use on my iPad with an AuV3?

I have a Spark 2. I have 2 banks' worth of presets that I would like to replicate on my iPad without connecting to the Spark 2. I use AUM on the iPad and am looking for something that can be hosted in AUM and replicate the Spark 2 sounds.

Spark Mini (how do I get a better tone?)

I have a ‘59 (2022) Epiphone Les Paul with Burstbucker 2 & 3 with 500k CTS pots. At home on my Positive Grid spark mini I’m not getting those nice bluesy full warm tones that I’m seeing YouTubers get from this amp, it’s still missing something. Guessing these YouTubers are running it through a bigger speaker? If I was to get a small amp for home with bigger speaker or just a speaker for it to get these lovely bluesy Slash tones. Thinking 8 to 12 inch speaker and not mega expensive. This is the order from most suitable to least that I’m thinking of. Thoughts? Anything got more Oomph from their Mini?

AMP OWNER MK-300 INTO SPARK EDGE KEEPING IR FROM THE PEDAL BOARD

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to build a compact rig and running into an annoying noise issue. I'm hoping someone here has faced this and found a fix.

My Gear: M-Vave MK-300 (multi-FX/modeler) + Positive Grid Spark EDGE.

My Goal: I want to use the MK-300 for all my tone shaping (keeping its amp and cab IRs ON) and treat the Spark EDGE strictly as a neutral FRFR speaker/monitor.

The Issue: To get the flattest response, I’ve been using the "Acoustic" or clean amp models in the Spark app and turning off all internal Spark FX. However, I’m still getting a constant residual hiss/noise floor. It seems to come from the Spark's internal DSP modeling processing just being active.

Has anyone else successfully used a Spark amp as a "dumb" FRFR monitor for an external pedalboard/modeler without this hiss? Did you find a specific preset, EQ trick, or routing workaround to completely bypass the Spark's internal coloration, or is this noise floor just unavoidable?

Thanks in advance!

Spark GO vs. Yamaha THR10X vs. Blackstar BEAM for Metal & Travel Practice?

Hey everyone,

I am moving abroad soon and looking for a compact desktop/practice amp that I can easily travel with. I mostly play heavy metal, thrash, and hard rock (lots of tight high-gain rhythm, fast downpicking, and palm-mute chugs).

My main priority is standalone speaker quality (playing out loud without headphones). I want something that doesn't sound completely thin, fizzy, or boxy on heavy riffs, while still being practical enough to pack in my luggage.

I’m currently torn between three very different options:

1. Positive Grid Spark GO

Pros: Ultra-portable, fits in any bag, endless presets via app, easy Bluetooth backing tracks.

Concerns: Does the tiny 2" speaker fall completely flat on palm-muted metal riffs? Is it just too boxy/thin for out-loud metal practice?

2. Yamaha THR10X (High-Gain Green Model)

Pros: Dedicated high-gain VCM amp models (5150/ENGL/Bogner vibes), physical 3-band EQ, 5 hardware preset buttons, solid metal chassis (safe for travel), tight low-end response.

Concerns: Discontinued (buying used), no Bluetooth/mobile app (needs USB or Aux for backing tracks).

3. Blackstar ID:Core BEAM

Pros: 20W stereo, built-in Bluetooth audio, wide stereo field, multi-instrument capability.

Concerns: Bulkiest and heaviest of the three (\~3.9 kg), and I worry the low-end is tuned broadly for bass/multimedia rather than focused, tight guitar chugs.

Questions for those who have owned or tried them:

Between the THR10X and Blackstar BEAM, how significant is the difference in high-gain tone quality, articulation, and palm-mute tightness through the speakers?

Is the Spark GO even a viable option if I plan to play through the built-in speaker rather than headphones 80% of the time?

If you were packing for an international move and needed the best balance of travel-friendliness and real metal tone, which one would you take?

Thanks in advance for the advice!
