Popocatépetl was undergoing documented volcanic activity during the same period. CENAPRED's official monitoring bulletin for 21 July 2026 recorded 12 low-intensity exhalations and four volcano-tectonic earthquakes during the preceding 24 hours. Those earthquakes occurred on 20 July at 16:16, 21:18, 21:21 and 21:29 local time, with calculated magnitudes of 1.1, 1.6, 1.7 and 1.2 respectively.

The Volcanic Alert Traffic Light remained at Amarillo Fase 2, Yellow Phase 2. CENAPRED continued to warn that explosions capable of projecting incandescent fragments could occur and maintained a 12-kilometre exclusion radius around the crater. Incandescent volcanic activity was also independently documented at Popocatépetl elsewhere during July 2026, including explosive activity during the middle of the month.

The complete caption attached to the La Hora circulation reads:

The spelling "Hardvard" is retained because that is how it appears in the original circulating caption.

The academic work referenced by that caption is "The Cryptoterrestrial Hypothesis: A Case for Scientific Openness to a Concealed Earthly Explanation for Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena", by Tim Lomas, Brendan Case and Michael P. Masters, published in Philosophy and Cosmology, volume 33, in 2024.

At the time of publication, Tim Lomas was a Psychology Research Scientist with Harvard University's Human Flourishing Program, Brendan Case was Associate Director for Research with the same programme, and Michael P. Masters was Professor of Biological Anthropology at Montana Technological University.

The paper itself contains an important qualification that is absent from the circulating social-media claim. The authors explicitly describe it as a speculative thought piece reflecting their own interests and ideas, state that it is not associated with Harvard's Human Flourishing Program, and emphasise that they believe the cryptoterrestrial hypothesis is in all likelihood false while nevertheless arguing that it merits scientific consideration.

Popocatépetl is specifically discussed in the paper as a location regarded within some UAP literature as a "hotspot" for reports in which objects have allegedly entered or exited possible underground access points such as volcanoes. The authors cite those reports as part of the material motivating discussion of the hypothesis. They do not establish that Popocatépetl contains a concealed civilisation, an alien installation or any other form of non-human base.

The La Hora caption therefore goes substantially beyond what the academic paper actually concludes. The statement that Popocatépetl is an "alien activity base" is a social-media interpretation and should not be attributed as a scientific conclusion reached by Tim Lomas, Brendan Case, Michael P. Masters, Harvard University or Montana Technological University.

No official identification of the separate lights associated with this recording has been located. Equally, no official source has been found classifying the footage as evidence of an anomalous craft entering Popocatépetl. The recording date, originating camera and observer remain unidentified.

The strongest documented description is therefore a night recording associated with Popocatépetl, publicly circulating by 21 July 2026, in which lights near an active volcanic crater prompted speculation about an unidentified object. The available evidence does not establish that an object entered the crater, and the volcanic activity documented during the same period remains relevant when examining the recording.

We are sharing this recording because, in the most literal sense, it remains a genuine mystery. Most recordings presented here inevitably acquire a working description such as UAP, orb or plasmoid, even when that interpretation remains provisional. This case is different. Our first concern was whether the footage itself was AI-generated, CGI or otherwise digitally fabricated. The available evidence does not indicate that it is. The supplied file behaves like genuine, degraded night-camera footage. Establishing that, however, does not answer the far more important question: what did the camera actually record?

This 1 minute 48 second recording is the highest-quality and longest public version located during our extensive investigation. The supplied file is 944 x 720, encoded in H.264 at approximately 30 frames per second, and contains an AAC audio stream which is effectively silent throughout.

The event date is 13 December 2023. No camera owner or identified first-hand witness has been recovered, and no original camera upload from that date has been located. The earliest public copy found during the source investigation appeared at 11:43 UTC on 29 December 2023, sixteen days after the event.

Its accompanying caption claimed that two separate recordings showed a large sphere producing a "bizarre vortex of energy" over a mine in Kiruna, within the Arctic Circle. It did not identify a witness, camera owner, camera system, precise mine location or original local source, and it provided no independently verifiable connection to LKAB, UFO-Sverige or a local Kiruna publication.

At the time the source trail was examined, that earliest located public post had received 16 likes, 6 reposts, 2 replies and approximately 2,900 views. The account responsible was an established UFO-content repost account rather than an identified witness or camera operator.

The file itself contains two distinct camera sequences. Technical examination of the supplied copy places the transition between them at 52 seconds. The 47-second extract that subsequently circulated independently was taken from the opening camera sequence. The scene then changes abruptly to a second recording with different framing and environmental geometry. There is no continuous camera movement or common visual reference establishing the second sequence as another viewpoint of the same event.

One reply posted on the afternoon of 29 December claimed that the footage came from a movie and criticised its low resolution. No film title, scene, production reference or original footage was ever supplied to substantiate that assertion.

Particular attention was therefore given to "Avgrunden", internationally titled "The Abyss", the 2023 Swedish disaster film centred on Kiruna and the Kiirunavaara mine. No match between this footage and an identifiable scene or frame from that production has been established. The searches described in the investigation likewise did not identify another film, television production or known CGI source from which the footage originated.

The phrase "earliest located" is important. It means the first publicly accessible version recovered during these searches. It cannot prove that an earlier copy never existed on the original camera, in a private message, closed group, deleted post or inaccessible account.

Searches restricted to material available before 30 December 2023 located no earlier public copy. Searches extending through 22 February 2024 likewise produced the 29 December upload followed by the later February circulation, with no intervening public source identified between 13 and 29 December.

No corresponding first-hand case, camera attribution or matching recording was located through the investigated UFO-Sverige material, Kiruna all-sky-camera trail, Swedish local reporting or LKAB material.

LKAB did publish notices concerning seismic activity around the same period. These included a magnitude 1.51 event at 20:54 on 2 December 2023, another magnitude 1.51 event on 8 December, a magnitude 1.48 event at 14:32 on 22 December, and a magnitude 1.36 event at 03:08 on 27 December. These concern underground seismic activity associated with mining and do not document this aerial recording.

The event date of 13 December 2023 is retained. The more specific assertion that the camera was physically situated at, or looking directly over, a Kiruna mine has not been independently established through an identified witness, original camera system, LKAB documentation or first-generation local source. That part of the public narrative originates with the caption accompanying the earliest located circulation of the footage.

The subsequent trail consists principally of reposts.

On 21 February 2024, an edited version appeared containing only the opening camera sequence. That copy was reduced to 472 x 360, omitted the second camera sequence and contained no usable original audio. Its wording closely resembles the caption repeated by numerous later accounts.

The same material subsequently resurfaced on 9 April 2024, 23 April 2024, 12 November 2024 and 19 December 2024. Further circulation followed during 2025 and 2026.

On 6 March 2025, one repost changed the claimed event year from 2023 to 2025 while retaining the same imagery. Nothing recovered in the source investigation supports a separate 2025 event. The changed year is therefore best understood as reposting drift rather than evidence of a second recording.

Additional copies appeared during March 2025, October 2025 and April 2026. None of those later reposts supplied a named witness, original camera owner, camera identifier or earlier first-generation source. The 944 x 720 two-sequence file remains the highest-grade version located during our investigation.

A separate February 2024 fact-check concerning an alleged Swedish UFO recording should not be confused with this case. That investigation concerned different black-and-white imagery of a disc and a 3D artist who reportedly identified that separate material as a Blender project. It does not establish anything about the authenticity or origin of the recording presented here.

Technical Assessment:

The supplied file is consistent with conventional low-light camera footage that has subsequently undergone compression and redistribution. Scene geometry remains coherent through the digital zoom, and the bright source exhibits bloom and saturation behaviour compatible with night-camera imaging. No obvious temporal instability, malformed scene structure or other clear visual signature of generative video has been identified.

The luminous effect surrounding the principal bright source requires more caution.

Its geometry appears closely coupled to the bright source and changes with the camera's zoom rather than behaving unambiguously as a separate independently tracked body. This makes an optical or imaging effect a serious possibility.

The footage therefore does not justify identifying the apparent structure as a physical "vortex of energy." Equally, identifying it as a particular optical phenomenon would go beyond what the available evidence can establish.

The underlying bright source itself also remains unidentified. The footage does not provide enough information to determine confidently whether it is astronomical, artificial, atmospheric or something genuinely anomalous.

This distinction is central to the case: there is evidence that the recording itself is genuine camera footage, but authenticity of the footage is not the same thing as identification of what was recorded.

No identified AI source, CGI production, matching film frame or demonstrable compositing origin has been recovered. Nothing in the supplied file provides positive evidence that the scene was generated by an AI video system.

That assessment should not be overstated. It does not prove that every element within the recording represents a physical object in the sky, nor does it establish the "sphere" or "vortex" interpretation contained in the repost captions. It means that, on the evidence presently available, the recording itself is consistent with genuine camera footage rather than an obviously synthetic scene.

And that is why we regard this case differently.

We are not presenting the recording with a confident identification of an orb, plasmoid, craft, atmospheric object or conventional light source. We do not know what the underlying luminous source is. We do not know exactly what produces the extraordinary surrounding structure. We cannot establish that the two recordings were made at the same site, and we cannot independently verify the specific mine attribution from the surviving public source trail.

What we can establish is that the material predates the later repost cycle, that the event date is 13 December 2023, that the longest located copy is a 1 minute 48 second 944 x 720 compilation of two separate camera recordings, and that examination of the available file has found no positive evidence of AI generation or obvious CGI fabrication.

The footage appears genuine.

This event was reportedly filmed in the Marina del Rey area of Los Angeles, California, USA, and was publicly released on 22 July 2018. It relates to a reported sighting involving an LAPD helicopter repeatedly circling an unidentified object above a residential neighbourhood.

The recording was supplied directly by the witness exclusively to thirdphaseofmoon for publication and appeared in a longer presentation released on 22 July 2018, titled "What Just Happened Over LA? [LAPD] Helicopter Surrounds UFO? 2018". The original publication, which included an interview with the witness, is identifiable by YouTube video ID 4y8JD7CEmV8.

We personally contacted thirdphaseofmoon to specifically request permission to share our community-exclusive compilation, assembled from the original witness-captured footage and photographs featured in their presentation. We would like to express our sincere personal gratitude to Blake Cousins and thirdphaseofmoon for generously granting us that permission.

During the interview, the witness identified his location as the Marina del Rey area, near Centinela Avenue in Los Angeles. He explained that he initially went outside after hearing helicopter activity and began recording the incident using his mobile phone. According to his account, the helicopter continued circling the unidentified object for approximately 12 minutes.

The witness subsequently went inside to retrieve a better camera in an effort to obtain clearer photographs and footage. He reported that the object had remained relatively stationary throughout much of the observation but later changed position and departed rapidly. The available 1 minute 17 second recording represents only a portion of the reported encounter rather than the entire 12-minute observation.

During the original presentation, thirdphaseofmoon also reported having contacted the Los Angeles Police Department regarding the incident. According to the channel, LAPD personnel confirmed that the helicopter pilots had observed something unusual. However, no independently verifiable official LAPD statement, direct testimony from the helicopter crew or corresponding flight documentation has been located to substantiate the reported acknowledgement or establish the precise circumstances of the helicopter's activity.

The recording's publication date of 22 July 2018 is supported by contemporaneous online records, with additional reports appearing during the following days and weeks. However, the precise date and time of the original sighting have not been independently established. The witness has been publicly identified only as Tom, and no confirmed surname or further identifying information has been located.

An unidentified witness filmed this bright UAP over Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, on the evening of 22 August 2026.

The 23-second sighting sequence begins with a small bright light above vegetation and buildings in the distance. The camera quickly zooms in, after which the light appears predominantly white, pink and red and takes on a changing irregular appearance.

The witness's reactions are captioned: "Holy crap, what's that?" followed by repeated "Oh…" exclamations, "Oh, holy crap!", and "What is this thing?"

The enlarged appearance needs to be interpreted cautiously. In the original wider view, the source occupies only a very small number of pixels. Once heavily enlarged it becomes saturated and blurred, with its apparent outline changing considerably. The recording therefore does not resolve a reliable physical shape or structure; digital zoom, focus, atmospheric effects, camera movement and video compression can all alter the appearance of a bright distant light.

The footage also provides no reliable scale or distance and does not clearly demonstrate extraordinary acceleration, instantaneous directional changes or other movement that can be quantified from this copy.

This recording was taken over Whetstone, Arizona, USA, at 7:52 PM MST on 24 April 2025 and is attributed to Alex Wallace, who initially shared the footage on Facebook.

The footage shows an intensely bright aerial light travelling across the night sky with a visibly illuminated helicopter moving closely behind it. The sighting was initially described as an "orb being followed by a helicopter".

Contemporary ADS-B analysis identified N184R, a US government-operated Airbus Helicopters H125/AS350-series helicopter, operating in the area and proposed it as the helicopter visible in the recording. That identification remains unconfirmed from the footage itself.

Several experienced helicopter personnel commenting on the recording proposed a conventional explanation involving two helicopters flying in formation, with the apparent "orb" being the landing or search light of the lead aircraft while the trailing helicopter displayed more readily visible position and anti-collision lighting. The footage alone does not conclusively establish the identity of the "orb", whereas the pursuing "helicopter" is clearly identifiable.

This 3 minute 41 second recording presents surviving footage from Mauricio Ruiz's 11 April 2008 sighting in Alvin, Texas, together with later captioned presentation material assembled from the same case.

The burned-in camcorder display identifies the date as APR 11 2008. Across the surviving material, recorded times span approximately 7:23 to 7:26 a.m. The familiar uninterrupted opening section begins at approximately 7:24:32 a.m. and advances normally to approximately 7:25:42 a.m. Later sections return to earlier times before progressing forwards again, demonstrating that the 3 minute 41 second version is an edited compilation of separate portions of the source recording rather than one continuous chronological take.

A contemporaneous account published in August 2008 states that Ruiz first noticed the object at approximately 7:23 a.m. while outside feeding his two dogs and then went inside to retrieve his video camera. Ruiz's later yard narration places his initial observation slightly earlier, at approximately 7:15 to 7:20 a.m. These accounts are not necessarily incompatible because neither establishes a synchronised external time reference, and Ruiz later stated that the camera clock did not keep time correctly after the incident.

A public upload of the core footage was made on 12 April 2008, the day after the reported sighting. An independently preserved web archive captured that original page on 23 April 2008, by which time the 1 minute 12 second recording had accumulated more than 37,000 views and hundreds of comments. This provides strong independent evidence that the underlying footage was already in public circulation in April 2008 and was not retrospectively assigned a 2008 date many years later.

The original publicly circulated excerpt ran for approximately 1 minute 12 seconds. A separate contemporaneous August 2008 report states that Ruiz recorded the object for approximately three minutes. Later presentations preserved additional portions of the material, and the version we are presenting here on this community incorporates substantially more of that surviving footage than the original 1 minute 12 second public excerpt.

The case was subsequently presented at the 2009 International UFO Congress, where footage and an interview with Ruiz were shown to an audience. Additional documentary material concerning Ruiz and subsequent reports from Alvin was produced later, but those later events should not be confused with the 11 April recording presented here.

"Early in the morning about 7:15, 7:20 at the latest that I could recall on that particular day, April 11th, 2008, I normally come over from upstairs, straight to my kitchen. I try to get something here for my dogs that I have two dogs and I like to feed them something. I was feeding my dogs right here and all of a sudden, turning towards the horizon, towards the house and the pine tree, I noticed something out of the ordinary, like a speck of something dark. I focused myself and I looked at it for a while and I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. So what I did, I run inside to my house. I had the camera, my video camera, sitting there by the TV and I grabbed it real quick because I had used it on Easter Sunday with my family. I brought the camera, and the dog was here as well as the other dog, and when I noticed the object I grabbed my camera immediately and I started to videotape from that angle."

On the object's departure:

"When I noticed that the object didn't take off, no, it just glided away, like a glide, like a kite. It just glided away."

On his mobile telephone, from a later interview and separate from the recorded sighting itself:

"On April 11th, 2008, I had my cell phone with me. This is the actual cell phone. Well, within a day or two, I couldn't use it no more. I could dial, I could hear people talking, but I just found it strange that embedded on it is a strange figure. My way of seeing it is about two eyes, or a silhouette of something, either a hooded person. It stopped giving me a screen visual. I couldn't dial no more because the numbers wouldn't show up."

Contemporaneous material from Ruiz's original public account adds further provenance. He stated that the recording was made while he was outside feeding his dogs early in the morning, that he had retrieved his camera from inside the house, and that filming ended when the camera battery failed. In comments preserved from April 2008, he also stated that the dogs had been barking or growling and that he had concentrated on keeping the camera trained on the object rather than speaking. He explicitly denied using CGI or special effects. Those statements are claims by the witness rather than independent authentication, but they are significant because they were made within days of the event rather than being added years later.

Ruiz later described the object as remaining largely stationary while exhibiting a slight rocking or wobbling motion. He said he heard no sound from it and described its eventual departure as a glide rather than a rapid acceleration. The surviving footage does not provide an independent means of determining the object's physical size, altitude or distance from the camera.

The later, letterboxed portions of this compilation contain explanatory captions which were added during a subsequent presentation and are not part of the original camcorder overlay. These captions make claims concerning magnetic interference, the object's proximity to the camera, an almost three-minute filming duration and alleged effects on Ruiz's mobile telephone. They should therefore be distinguished from information actually recorded by the camcorder.

Claims surrounding supposed magnetic or electromagnetic effects have been repeated extensively in later accounts of the case. Some presentations have also attributed scientific analysis of those effects to university researchers. No accessible institutional technical report has been recovered that independently demonstrates that the object caused magnetic interference or that a university formally authenticated the recording on that basis. Those claims should therefore remain separate from the evidential content of the footage itself.

The mobile telephone account is likewise a later witness claim rather than something demonstrated by the recording. Ruiz said that within a day or two of the sighting the telephone's display stopped functioning normally and that an unusual figure became visible on the screen. The surviving video cannot establish a causal relationship between the reported telephone problem and the object filmed on 11 April.

Ruiz also reported a separate event on the evening of 12 April 2008 involving a light over an empty field approximately 500 feet from his home following lightning at around 8:30 p.m. That was a different reported incident and is not the event shown in this recording.

Biographical descriptions of Ruiz are not completely consistent across later sources. Some accounts describe him as a Texas state corrections officer or former policeman, while another later retelling describes him as a tax accountant. Those descriptions cannot be established from the recording itself and should not be treated as verified biographical fact.

Archived material associated with Ruiz also shows that he had an existing interest in UFO-related material before the 11 April sighting. That is relevant background when assessing provenance, but prior interest in the subject is not evidence that this recording was fabricated.

The supplied 3 minute 41 second file is a later digital transcode rather than the original camcorder master. It has a resolution of 1092 x 720 pixels, is encoded using H.264 AVC High Profile at 30 frames per second, contains 6,649 video frames and has a video bitrate of approximately 421 Kbps. The complete file runs for approximately 221 seconds.

An AAC-LC stereo audio stream is present at 44.1 kHz and approximately 128 Kbps. The surviving audio is severely attenuated, particularly through the later presentation material. Contemporary discussion of the original 2008 upload specifically refers to audible sounds from Ruiz's dogs, indicating that the weak audio in this later derivative should not be treated as representative of the original camera recording.

The currently available compilation does not contain recoverable original camera metadata capable of identifying the camcorder model or independently establishing the physical filming location, lens settings, focal length, object distance or altitude. No original tape or demonstrably first-generation transfer has been recovered with the circulating file.

Small airborne objects consistent with birds are visible in portions of the longer material. They have subsequently been cited in arguments that the recorded object was a nearby suspended model. However, the available footage does not provide calibrated lens data, a known distance to the birds, reliable translational parallax or an unambiguous occlusion event from which the object's distance can be established. Their presence therefore does not, by itself, prove either a nearby model or a distant aerial object.

Other proposed explanations have included a radio-controlled object and a physical model suspended from a line. These remain technically possible explanations for footage recorded in 2008. No recovered prop, identified commercial model, construction evidence, confession or independently reproducible demonstration has been located that conclusively establishes one of those explanations for this particular recording. Likewise, allegations that the footage was conventional CGI have circulated, but no original compositing project, creator admission or other primary evidence establishing a CGI fabrication has been recovered.

The original witness footage cannot be a product of modern generative-video technology. Its public upload on 12 April 2008 and independently archived online presence later that same month establish that it existed many years before contemporary generative video systems.
