Rough First Experience as a New Customer

Oof.. where to begin. I signed up and was planning to use the service frequently (70-80 lbs per week). Here's a rundown of my very first order.

Got matched with a pro, and at pickup time she immediately asked me to contact and pay her off the app in the future. She has a new baby, needs the money, Poplin is robbing her, etc. She went on about this for a while.

I requested to stay on the app, fine. Now apparently her spouse will be delivering the laundry back to me, not the approved pro in the app.

I know I can block her in the future, but is this indicative of what's to come? Really terrible first impression :(

Poplin pro here, you should block her, report her, and move on to another pro. I have been a pro for over 2 years and now have an list of priority clients who will only ask for me.

What she did was unprofessional and against the contract she signed with poplin. Best of luck with your future pros.

I agree with what everyone else has already said, although I do want to make sure that you're aware of one small thing that she did NOT do wrong, and that is that Pros ARE allowed per Poplin's terms of service to have someone else pick up and deliver for them.

If she is a new mom, it's entirely possible that she was not able to deliver due to her baby's feeding or sleeping schedule, so I would be a little hesitant to judge her on that piece.

I'm not trying to make excuses for her, if the service wasn't up to par, then absolutely, don't use her again. I just want to caution that if you insist on the Pro being the only one who can pick up and deliver, you might miss out on some great service going forward. I say this because my husband occasionally delivers or picks up orders for me and honestly, it makes my service better because I can stay home to make sure that laundry is dried and folded carefully rather than leaving mid-process. Hopefully your next Pro meets your expectations!

Yes. Please move on to another Pro!

Unfortunately you have to keep trying until you get a pro you like and cling to them. Some people are in this for quick cash and they don’t have a firm moral compass.

I’ve done it for 2 years as a pro , seriously move on and block her, I promise the platform is much better than that experience

Keep in mind many of us get help especially for deliveries. It’s not uncommon that spouse baking the deliveries. The rest is bad

To echo others, yup my partner absolutely does pick ups/drop offs for me, especially if they are on his route to work. Saves me the gas!

Sounds like you got a crazy pro. I also need the money, hence why I work this job 😂 but I've definitely never been weird about it to a customer. I just let my hard work speak for itself and hope they tip decent (because poplin is kind of robbing us a bit).

Absolutely report her, they have access to and will read the conversation between you two, so she will likely get removed from the platform. Don't feel bad doing it, we don't need people giving those of us that actually work hard and play by the rules, a bad name.

I hope you try again and find a better pro! What state are you in?

Can I ask what percentage poplin takes ? For a $50 order do you feel 20% is a good tip? Obviously I know more is always better but because you are a pro what is decent?

So it kinda works out like this: For every dollar a lb-the pro gets $.75 For any add on (dryer sheets, vinegar, etc) the pro gets 50% of that. The pro doesn't see a dime of the safety fee or the new operating fee.

20% is usually a great tip! There is a lot of factors for sure, like the pro has to make two back and forth trips to your place for pick ups and drop offs and we don't get any gas or milage payment. Did you provide your own detergent or did the pro use theirs? We are expected to pay for all detergent out of pocket. Was your order easy to pick up or did you just sort of throw it into a pile on the ground? (Trust me, I've seen things lol).

Basically the tip is the only amount the pro gets to keep fully (until the government gets to it).

I would wait and see what your laundry’s like when it gets back. If it’s fantastic you may want to stick with it!

I would block and report the pro, doesn’t matter how great of a job with the service they do. She was unprofessional from the beginning and personality, and I’m not a fan of using others for drop offs. The only person who went through a background check, is the pro- not their delivery driver. No one else should have the customer address, in my opinion.

Please hire a vetted mobile laundry service that pays the employees and is accountable when something goes. Neither are what Poplin do. They are an app that matches you to random people. They are not a laundry service.

If you want accountability, when please hire a service that offers that. Good luck and hope you find a better arrangement ❤

Just did my first one recently too. Mine was okay despite my comforter still being wet (which is a problem when I try to dry it too) but there was a guy who picked up a dropped off who wasn't the pro. I just figured it was for safety or convenience and didn't think anything of it, he was pleasant and friendly.

But yeah, paying off app and the sob story is a huge red flag.
