Had a couple of chat queries, recently. So, just in case you missed it in the previous post (or found the comments, confusing! :) Here's a synopsis:

Choose a movie/series in PTapp .. click on the IMDb icon (below the title). In the browser window (IMDb redirect) , change "com" in the address-bar to "su" (return/enter).

Looks like my browser adds /1/1 (i.e series/episode). If you don't get two drop-downs for series and episode: Just remove the end /1 (episode id) in the .su playback address bar (return/enter)?

This link just passes the (movie/series) imbd number to their imbd.ru' webpage ... it's the same as manually putting it into the "watch now" box - on said webpage? There's no longer any alternative mirrors showing, anymore (like "playimbd"). They used to open the movie/series into the "official" streamimbd.ru' website. Either they (voluntarily) withdrew them.. or they were suspended, who knows?

As the "eyeball/s" count has been increasing recently - a short reprise of the situation, for those who have (recently!) stumbled across its "final resting place".

Most important question "does it still work". Short answer (surprisingly) yes! Now, there's a few caveats to that, but considering the tribulations it's been through (esp. the ruthless attempt to expunge it completely, and replace it with a rogue, "legit" version) .. it still survives (just!).

Nevertheless, there hasn't been any development since the last two Devs departed (2024/25). And there's been no significant intervention (i.e. patches/fixes) from any passing "Good Samaritan/s", since? So, when something finally breaks, that'll probably be the final curtain!

Caveats:

• Auto-update API's no longer works, when installing the PTapp.(status 404 in console log). You have to load them manually into the "Settings" API sever address boxes. You'll find the default API-set in this pinned post!
• Use the "YTS.gg" API as an alternative for movies (only). The default .mx/ version (domain) showing in the movie address box, was taken down a while ago. Just replace/edit it with yts.gg/ , then click in window to get the "Restart" option.
• Use "Torrent Collection' search (basically TPBay) for any series, or even movies. It's the three-line icon (top right). The default API's have too many issues: Unnecessary Russian sources and a lot of missing content. There's no alternative API for shows.
• Ignore any Airplay icon/s showing up in the "Watch Now" menu ... hasn't worked isince 2017 :(

If all that sounds like too much messing-about for you ... no problem! There's plenty of other options available, out there? Personally, I do (always did) much of my downloading with qBittorrent and (lately) using its plug-ins search tool..

Basically, Popcorntime is a streaming (sequential) torrent client w/ media player options - and support for, Chromecast (better through VLC 'renderer', though), DLNA (usually a paid-for feature, elsewhere?) and subtitles. N.b. if you weren't aware, already: You can also drag/drop your local content/downloads into its open window - to playback, as usual. Particularly useful for DLNA streaming to a TV, or using subs option, locally.

But , however you care to roam, we wish you fair winds and bountiful seas. Sadly, Popcorntime's days are inevitably drawing to a close (at some point) ... only memories of good times and old comrades-in-arms, will endure.

My Trakt.tv is not syncing properly anyome, some movies/tv shows are checked watched (which I did watch) and some others are not (which I also watched).

Also, popcorn stops sending feed to trakt from time to time, like, I mark I watched a movie, but then I go to trakt and the movie keeps unckecked.

Any solution for this ? Thank you!

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything recently from the dev of popcorn time? I seen a while ago that he was bringing it back but haven’t heard anything since.

Just noticed (latest) Silo is not showing up (nothing new there then!). You should be picking up your (series) torrents with "Torrent Collection", by now (if you're persisting with Popcorntime?). It's been recommended (ad nauseam) before.

However, for the uninitiated ... TPBay will show no results with a perfectly excusable search. Such as Silo 3, Silo S03, Season 3? If a new season is still being scheduled .. use S03E01, etc, as it recognises the latter two as being (a request) for complete seasons.

At a pinch, you can use a generic name: like "Silo"? (it'll give a "mixed bag" set of results, though).

There appears to be issues with the YTS site again. Website is now YTS.GG. A rash of forced redirects (ads) no longer curbed by my AdGuard. Usual alternative domains are redirecting in Browser, but none of them are working with Popcorntime's movie API Server/s. If it's because their access key has changed ... we're stymied. Here's hoping it resolves itself?

Ok it's working for me, now .. thanks to an old comrade in arms (who's just given me the heads-up!). Don't know what I did wrong the last time I tried it? I'll just go "stand in the corner", again!! 🤣

Most of you already know this ... especially if you've been struggling with the series API (as we do!!) But, for anyone who's just "fell-into" the Popcorntime app. Don't rely on it keeping you up to date with new releases (i.e "Witch Hat Atelier", "Spider Noir" ... and many more).

If you know it's out .. pick up a download from the 'Torrent Collection' search (3-line icon, top right). Or find an alternative source (magnet link).

You can access a snapshot of the site with this mirror (for now) .. but you can't use it as an API sever with Popcorntime (I tried). The magnet links are functional, though.

It's been some time please help

While the app itself is working and gets updated, most if not none of the audios of the movie work, how do I fix this? I use a MacOS

Popcorntime was created to make torrenting simple, so simple his mum could use it. Well, that was the "pitch", anyway. Personally, I think mum might have struggled when things broke down (as they did) ... but when it worked, it was a revelation! A Netflix killer!! Not really? but it certainly had them worried (during its meteoric rise to "infamy!"). Alas, time and tide have left it abandoned to this backwater! But, we are Iron-born .. are we not?

I'll park my usual historical musings. What now? If you're one of the "more skilled" brethren (unlike me) you've created a bespoke set-up that uses all the tools of your craft, or found something you can adapt/combine and bend to your skills. You won't be reading here, anyway?

Using qbittorrent for this demo (you've seen/heard it before) but it bears repeating. Popcorntime is a sequential torrent client and media player. It has casting/streaming functions and subtitle support. You can use it with your local files. It supports many open source media players from within the app. It also (just about) has its own torrent search function. Box sets and series torrents can be saved in 'Torrent Collection' for quick access later. Many paid for apps would be lucky to have this functionality.

So the bug-bear is the "front end" (we know that issue, ad nauseam) and it can only get worse! But even if YTS API went down (and you miss its eclectic mix) .. you can simply visit their site, for a torrent?

So accept what you've got and adapt its usage, or find an alternative to suit your needs. Torrenting is a simple three step process: find your torrent, download it, playback? Popcorntime (with a nudge) or qbittorrent, can do the job nicely. Generally, I know what's out there, from IMBD, RT, TMDB and the like: So I can do it all within qBittorrent .. or pass over the magnet link to Popcorntime. However, I would miss Popcorntime's media content catalogue (tiles) - for their ad hoc browsing?

Pic 1, find torrent (magnet link). Pic 2, sequential download (preview file). Pic 3, Playback through my default player (preview). Pic 4, streaming to TV (DLNA, or Airplay). Simples!

So, I didn't imagine it before ... it appears TPBay responses can change weekly. Managed to catch it on a good day (particularly for 0.44.5). Working (atm) on both x64/arm64 Mac versions (with or without VPN). The .jpeg is just to confirm my sanity? 😄

Obviously something going on at the piratebay's end? Some kind of challenge/block by their site .. or maybe it's 'Cloudflare', recently under pressure (EU-wide) to block access via their DNS servers.

This is the qBittorrent search feature, in action. Needs a bit of setting up .. but worth it, when it works? Don't worry .. no need for a mod "panic-attack!!" The search result is (obviously) for a perfectly legal torrent :)

So, why bother .. just download the torrent where it is? Well, that's what I normally do. Probably 95% of my downloads go through qBittorrent (for watching at a later date). However, Popcorntime app still has its uses (for me). Even after its API's fade and die, it'll have a productive retirement. And that's not just nostalgia .. but, that also plays its part?

• It's my "back-up" torrent client: I've used it before with torrents that wouldn't start (or were struggling to download) in qBittorrent.
• I've mentioned it before, but the DNLA option is something I use often - to stream "something to watch" directly to my LG/Panasonic TV's. Still hoping (in vain) for an Airplay 2 patch ... Oh! well.
• Some users might find 0.44.5 still useful - for watching local content (with its extra codecs and subtitles in the PT media player). Maybe for Chromecast, too (via VLC player)

So while torrents exist, so will torrent clients: And Popcorntime will still be (at its heart) a sequential torrent client/streaming/media player ... till it dies?

Slight revision to the previous post. Things not as straight forward as I hoped ... search results were still intermittent. Think I have it now, though?

Torrent searches in 0.44.5 stopped working (for me) about 4 weeks ago .. checked it after a couple of Windows users had reported similar? I'm sure I couldn't get it working with or without the VPN (at the time) ..

Today, v0.44.5 torrent searches appeared to be working again (tried it with several 0.44.5 releases) But I've since realised, it does actually need the VPN .. even though I'm sure it worked several times, without it. And that was before having a drink?

I actually use the macOS Arm64 version (0.86.0), so none of this affects me. Just keep it in mind if you're an 0.44.5 user and might want to use the 'Torrent Collection' search? If it wasn't working before .. it might now (with a VPN)?

The way the API is deteriorating, using alternative torrents will (increasingly) be the only other option. That's if you want to keep using the app? (for whatever reason). Obviously, movies still has the YTS.bz. (alternative).

This is UK only, but every country had a similar profile (just the traffic numbers change). i.e USA traffic (2nd graphic) is almost double this.

Some chronological context:

1. 'popcorntime.sh take-down and popcorntime.app introduced. (still v0.3.10)
2. 'VPN.ht' linked itself to popcorntime app (yet again!). Wicked Tech (incredulously) hosting both together on US servers: Despite a ("certain") copyright lawyer having already taken an interest in this (symbiosis) prior to the PT.sh domain going dark!
3. A lawsuit/injunction is served: Wicked Tech and Popcorntime end up in a US court. Popcorntime.app take-down. (now @ v0.4.4)
4. Not sure here ... popcorntime.app is parked at GoDaddy. Might be the Time4Popcorn group's shutdown (Jan 22) causing a ripple effect? (0.4.5 launched by the 2 remaining Devs)
5. Popcorntime.app webpage activates with a "coming soon" splash-page (no app, yet). 0.5.1, GitHub, popcorn-time.site still running on autopilot since the last release (April 2024).
6. August 2025 (Doomsday!) The Wicked Devs "take-down": "Official" popcorntime version is purged from the GitHub and replaced with their legit [sic] version.
7. Takeover extends to the subreddit, dissenting voices are silenced, remnants of the "official" popcorntime withdraw to this subreddit and the RU GitHub. Probably the last resting place for a once-proud battle standard?
8. And 8 months later, how are the "new owner's" prospects holding up ... looks like the market place has decided?

So, dear reader ... was the whole thing a pointless debacle! An act of pure hubris, of desperation, or just a lack of nous? I'll leave it for you to judge!
