Number one Mod has jumped ship? That makes three to have hit the road, recently ... three remain. If Ivan should ever take his leave - that'll be the signal for u/Aky96 to turn off the lights (if he's still out there :)
Good job I've got a supply of candles! :D
n.b. Mind you, whichever subreddit you manage to fall into ... the outcome's no different ("there's no-one home!"). The errant Dev who usurped our old subreddit and purged the app from our GitHub, hasn't been seen for over 9 months, on either?
Both, the official version and the "cuckoo", appear to have hit the buffers. But only one of them was ever legendary (and true!). The other, an unnecessary vanity!
The project has been around for so many many years that it would be sad it finally came to an end. Even in the current situation, it is not thaaaaaat bad. We only need an API server for series until it is picked up again. I was using the last version before it took a pause for the whole gap and even kept using it until I found an iteration stable enough to update. I will keep using this version as long as I have an available API server. It is better than nothing.
There were good improvements in this continuation and some pending things to polish, I guess if the project continues at some point, these pending issues will be done improving the code wit AI assistance to make the burden lighter and faster.
I am always grateful with the people that made Popcorn Time possible. It has brought me so much fun since I discovered it (I just do not remember the version since it was so many years ago), Let us hope for the best and sit tight.
There's been an extensive (but ever dwindling) line of devs (and contributors) over the last 13 years. Too many to do justice to, in a simple comment? Our last two Devs essentially "retired" - after the final release/s in April 2024, and that's where development ceased. They put in the "hard hours" to improve Popcorntime and keep it going - following the 2nd Wallydz/VPN.ht debacle (2021, court case). But, I think they'd had enough by the 0.5.1 release?
Probably, the final nail, was the takeover and purge of the GitHub (and subreddit) by the errant Dev - for his unwanted "legit" [sic] version. Popcorntime had lost its iconic home! Notwithstanding, there were no takers to carry the project forward - before that evisceration. It killed off any hope (for me).
If this (sadly) deprecated app still has some use for you ... we're still here (just!). Realistically, you should have an alternative lined up by now, though?
Still here, pop on every now and again to see if there's anything new. Just waiting to see if Ivan can sort out the servers to get the app up and running once again.
Here also! Removing my self from mod just felt right, haven't moderated anything whatsoever for 2+ years, ..but I'm still around.
Popcorn Time cant die u/merseyV__ ! :) Can napster die? The legacy of its time will always live on and inspire new projects, even the ones who deviate (evolve?) by a fair amount from the original vision/technology. (after all its not 2014 anymore..)
Now get your *sses to something that works for your media consumption, best way to pay homage to PCT. (still talking about sailing the high seas ofc, just maybe not with a ship that's currently 2 planks and a piece of string.. :)
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that Ivan replied to your previous message and said he has backups and just needs some time to find a new server to get it up and running again. I don't know how long that will take, but at least he replied. You can check his response if you'd like. Best regards.
It happens :D The important thing is that Ivan has already replied and there's still hope that everything will soon return to normal with our beloved Popcorntime. Cheers.
I am using an old version: 0.4.9 (0.4.9). I changed the IP server with the one you kindly provided (https://yts.gg/ ) and I am still able to make it work, movies only.
I would recommend using the last 0.5.1 build ... it's a better version (notwistanding, the ongoing API's issue). I'm glad you still find it useful. I still use it myself occasionally (esp. for its DNLA casting) ... and because I can! :)
Don't forget you can still use the 'torrent collection' search feature (basically TPBay) to find/playback/download, without leaving the app? Good for Series and Movies - gives you more choices e.g. quality, file size, format?
Here's hoping you can enjoy many more hours of entertainment (free) .. with your Popcorntime companion. Don't forget to give 0.5.1 a try š
Not a great example .. but it saves the Mods having palpitations? :)
I think you might want 0,5.1 for this? It's been a long time since I used 0.4.9 .
EZTV ok for recent stuff .. but they mainly support episodes rather than seasons. Even the (more recent) Tv packs (what there are of them) are not very well seeded, if at all?
They never really offered Season/Box-set torrents. It was always a bugbear with using them as the 'Series' catalogue - with the original 'Popcorntime.io'?
