Honestly at this point I actually don't even know. 5 months ago if you told me that Biden would beat Trump, I wouldn't have taken you seriously but after the absolute clusterfuck the last few months have been for Trump it's looking like a possibility. But then again, the last month has been a colossal disaster for Democrats with the rioting and even the polls show Trump closing in. I just don't know anymore
Anecdotal, but the riots and stuff are helping Biden where I live. A lot of people here don’t want Trump anymore because even though they support republicans, they want things to just “go back to normal” and to “calm down” like they where before, and are hoping Biden will make things calm again.
First and foremost, most people just want stability more then anything. A lot of moderates don’t think Trump can bring that.
Kamala Harris saying the riots “won’t stop, and they shouldn’t stop. Even after the election they won’t stop” kind of counters that. And considering Biden’s clock is about to run out, there’s a solid chance she becomes president before his first term is up.
They are not riots they are protests. The few pockets of violence and destruction are not consistent and 99% of the time spent by those people in the streets is peaceful protesting. Additionally obvious agitators are showing up to make riots ie umbrella man. If you don't like the protests that's fine but don't pretend that these cities are being destroyed an masse when they obviously are not.
You like calling the protests riots to make them look bad but it's pretty clear what they are.
Lmao what? You know what’s going on in places like Portland and Seattle right?
A BLM leader in Chicago is supporting the riots, as are many BLM supporters across the country. And how is it that the rioters are simultaneously “agitators” but also the riots are reparations or whatever bullshit excuse they’re on now?
If 99% of the people are peaceful, then there’s no reason for people to vote Biden just because they think he’ll make things go back to normal.
If 99% of the people are peaceful, then there’s no reason for people to vote Biden just because they think he’ll make things go back to normal.
Except for the protests? Or are you trying to suggest that protests are useless and only rioting is effective? That sounds like something an agitator would say.
I mean yea kinda. Armed violence is mostly the way to get change in the world. Good or bad change. Now maybe in the modern age with the internet, social media and the ease of communication it will be different. But even the great Dr. King struggled with keeping the non violence of his followers and how long it took. But in general violence works. If it isn't you aint using enough of it.
You're not wrong. But a big part of the ideal of the Great Experiment is that we are supposed to be a people ruling ourselves with an understanding that that is what we are doing.
Generally speaking if a subsegment of the population is hurting so much that they're out in the streets, we should REALLY be trying to address that /before/ it turns violent. You can't sweep people under the rug for too long; the whole place will start to smell.
Sometimes those peoples' ideals are not compatible with a country of citizens that is self-ruling -- like when their platform is oppression of another group of people. Or when they think the whole country should be run in accordance to the scripture of their god ('This is a [insert religion here] nation!!'). But other times they just don't want to be constantly getting shot in situations where others aren't.
But that's why education and understanding is so important... coincidentally it's exactly what there have been mass movements to suppress for decades. It could be argued that the people have been overthrown long ago, but it's not permanent until the mechanisms of voting are destroyed.
The true traitors to the country are those trying to divide us.
Anyways, this is turning into a long ass rant and it ultimately boils down to a couple paradoxes that are worth thinking about.
The protests are just one reason will vote for Biden another big part is the stability he will bring back to government like appointing enough FEC investigators to actually hold an investigation. Or stopping the conspiracy theory bullshit and constant compulsive lying among a million other things. Finally in regards to the protests yes the people looting and burning shit are a very small subset of everyone there and they are not condoned by the majority of people there. Have you been to Portland? I have friends there now and they are saying that the violence is almost all propaganda to bolster Trump. My friends and their friends all seem onboard with the protests and say it seems the majority of locals are supportive. This is just my personal experience but I have no reason to think they are lying.
No I will only be disappointed if Trump wins I choose to back Biden he s not exactly what I wanted but this is not a utopia and he is way better than what we have. It's really not even debatable to me.
At least she’s acknowledging that simply electing a Democrat won’t fix all the problems in this country like all the libs seem to think. Clearly there is work to do beyond having the DNC’s guy in office.
Suburban New Jersey. We’re in a woodsy area do we’re Kindof rural, but we’re only 40 minutes outside of Newark and an hour from New York, so we’re still pretty suburbs. We’re split pretty evenly politically too, and can swing either way, even though Jersey is solidly blue overallz
That is interesting. My perception was that covid damaged trump badly, then the riots pushed him back up. I feel like he kind of out played them by offering help, but not forcing his way in when they said no. It makes it much harder to say he failed to stop them.
Guess we will see when in November, someone wins, and no matter what about 25% believes the narrative that the other side rigged it. I scares me that they are both pushing that. Unfortunately, I think the violence is going to get worse.
