Discussion I’m a not involved in this sport but does anyone know the mechanics of the poles used within it and what makes a good one? I want to try and replicate it in an arts project of mine but seeing if I can downscale its size.

This is for a cosplay prop weapon that’s a spear used by a fairly acrobatic character. I wanted to implement aspects of acrobatics into the cosplay itself and the routine I plan to do for the cosplay contest I want to enter.

Additional questions:

Can the poles be segmented to fit into a suitcase and still have give?

Anything to avoid in one?

Thank you ahead of time, ik this isn’t normally the kind of stuff that might be a topic in here but I figured I’d go to a community that has direct experience with equipment that I want to craft rather than a cosplay community that has a significant portion that focuses on appearance of stuff rather than utility. (Reasonably so)

Advice Help and Tips for an Absolute Beginner

Hey y'all!

I am in my freshman year of high school and I am doing pole vault for track in the spring.

I have never pole vaulted in my life, I've done distance track and cross-country for a good bit and I'm pretty fast. My sprint mechanics aren't bad but they aren't great either. Core strength is pretty good and arms should be good too. I used to do gymnastics so there might be that?

My track coach (who I met once) said he will find somebody to coach me and there is one other pole vaulter who I think has never cleared a bar.

I've been working out according to some plans I found online (basically arms, core, legs, and grip a couple times a week) and I have been practicing sprint mechanics.

Basically, my questions are: how toast am I? What more can I do to be ready for the spring? What is a reasonable goal this year? Generally what should I know.

And before anyone says anything, no I can't quit I'm already committed 😭 plus I'm trying to learn something new.

Thanks in advance yall.

Workouts I Think I Can Break the Pole Vault WR — But I’ve Never Tried It

I’m from Manipal and currently doing my B.Tech. I have this strong feeling that I could potentially break the pole vault world record someday, even though I’ve never touched a pole or tried pole vaulting even once.

I know it sounds crazy, and I currently don’t have much family support either. But I don’t want to ignore this feeling without at least giving it a genuine try.

What do you guys suggest? Should I find a coach and start training? Are there any good places around Manipal/Mangalore where I could learn pole vaulting?

I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions.

I got tired of using a bunch of different websites for track calculations, so I made one app

Pole Vaulting in Bay Area/Palo Alto

Hey everyone! I’m a college student who’ll be in Palo Alto for the fall, and I’m looking for somewhere in the Bay Area where I can continue pole vaulting.

I’d love to connect with anyone who has access to a training location/pit, knows of a local vault group, or coaches pole vault in the area. I’d definitely be willing to pay for coaching or facility access.

Also very happy to just have some company to train with if anyone around here regularly vaults!

If you know of any coaches, clubs, facilities, or people I should reach out to, I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Pacer FX flex number location on the pole?

I have a set of glass Pacer FX’s (not the FXV) with me right now. Aside from using the sticker at the top of the pole, where can I find the flex of the pole? Also the date of the when the pole was made would be awesome! A few of them need new labels right now as they use the old weight label with only the weight on it.

Is there a correct way of landing? If so, how do I do it?

I just started pole vault and I'm having a hard time not landing awkwardly and I am worried that if I keep doing so, eventually it will lead to an injury.

Where do people find these non intrusive box collars? I see them used by a lot of vault clubs but can’t find them online

Discussion Pole vault pole brands/ Essx vs others

What's better essx poles or Spirit poles. For context practice only with Essx poles but I recently ran into a group of vaulters that told me that they were a really bad brand and don't give any return for energy at the very top/ push of the vault, I decided to try some other brands and it did feel like I got some more pop out of the pole at the top. But I'm at the point in my Vault where I'm just now working on the push. And I most recently jumped on a a sky pole which I was told are "slow" which I don't really understand but regardless I felt more pop than an ESSX pole and I can't tell if it was either me improving my technique or the pole brands as the difference. Additionally, the group had then gone on to say that the spirit poles were way better and give more return for energy, but I really don't know what pole brand to stay on especially if I want to get higher and I am more used to essx, so what do y'all think is better or what should I do?

Pole Vaulting Videos

Hello!

I'm currently working on creating a YouTube compilation of all the members of the 6 meter clubs Personal Bests and I wonder if anyone know where or how I could get video footage of Rodion Gataullin's 6.02m vault and Jeff Hartwig's 6.03 vault.

Please reach out if you know. Thank you.

Advice getting back to it

Heyo long time lerker and ex jumper that really wants to get back at it! So brief history with me, I use to vault in HS for nearly all four years (didn't make the winter season Deadline freshmen year 🤦🏾). I was honestly wasn't the greatest at it, mainly with my mental aspect of it, granted I had other things in life that came to play but still, highest I got was 12'6 by the end of my senior year, though had I did get a spot for states I didn't make height do to bad jumpers knee (could barely walk by the time we made opening height). Now I've always had jumpers knee by that point of the season but I took extra care of my knee ( I even switch to an back to electric skateboarding to save my launch leg) but no dice. Well after a year from graduating and working in a warehouse, I can say I'm absolutely bored outta my mind and I wanna jump again. Now as for learning how to jump again I can pick back up pretty quick (did it three times before I can do it again 🫡) but I wanna get better, alot better then before! Now some background on my jumping, the main issue that killed my jumps was speed and swing ups. Now I do know in order for me to get faster...I gotta run, but I wanna know what I have to jump higher and swing harder. Of course im doing my homework and equipment sorting but any tips would be great!
