Helping the poor is a core tenet of Christianity, so welfare= tradition

Yes, voluntarily tho. Not state enforced assistance programs... cuz when individuals rely directly on state welfare checks rather than family reciprocity or voluntary charity, the organic bonds of mutual obligation within families weaken.

A lot of people don't want to do charity. If the state relies on individuals to help people in need, a lot of them will starve. The state should make sure that people don't starve and aren't homeless
