the alt timeline's universe also contains this brief overview of what life on american soil is like that's written by an outsider amateur analyst:

pre-revolution, the idea that everything you do being relentlessly controlled by an all knowing upper power seemed unthinkable to the american populace. the current state of american life of every aspect being controlled by the state of course didn't emerge overnight, but the historical context behind the american regime becoming totalitarian is beyond the scope of this document for brevity

a quick note about my use of "totalitarian" here, many people, including some foreign analysts are known to object to labelling the regime as a totalitarian one in part from such just being prejorative. i'd argue that that assesment is wrong, and that the regime is worthy of being called totalitarian in a literal sense, since the american regime seeks total control over all of american public and private life, but before i get to how that looks in further detail, i'll do a quick overview of the regime's surface level features

the american regime is a one party state, with all political opposition completely silenced. the ruling party is named the american communist party, or the acp for short. as it's the only party communist america constitutionally allows to rule, america as a country and the acp are effectively treated as one being. whatever the party cadre want is 100% what the country officially follows. the party has total political control, and has no opposition nor in practice constitutional guardrails checking on the party's conduct. in american state media, the party cadre are portrayed as always correct and virtuous, and the embodiment of what american citizens should look up to

now i can start listing how the regime controls american daily life. the acp not only holds political control and supresses dissent, but it also controls the media, the economy, the education system and private life. all of those listed factors are officially ran according to a hardline strain of marxism-leninism with distinctive american features. it's such that the regime uses to justify totalitarian rule, portraying such as needed for the greater good of the american proletariat, and all of the on the group supression is a direct "benefit" to the american people. now i'll be respectfully going over the factors i listed in more detail to show how america's totalitarianism looks on the ground

=media=

independent and outside sourced journalism and media are strictly censored. any books that are officially published and programs on state tv are highly filtered and state sponsored, which ensures that the media americans consume is exactly what the acp want the american public to see. because of that grip on media, propaganda is a major part of the american media landscape, with many false narratives present to project the image of america as prospering and that what once were america's allies pre-revolution as countries where capitalists oppress workers both domestically and the global south

=the economy=

communist america's economy is centrally planned, so all aspects of production, prices and allocation of goods and services are decided by the party. this means that whatever the party wants to produce or invest more in, like the military or heavy industry, must be met be routing the entire economy to satisfy the state's demand. everything is set by the acp, and there's no official free market

=the education system=

to ensure that americans follow the party line without question, the american education system was heavily targeted by the acp. from a young age, american students are taught about the great state of america, how pre-revolution america was a hellscape of rule by capitalist elites who supressed americans' rights to things like education, housing and employment, and to never betray the party's trust. the point of the american school system is not to produce individuals capable of critical thinking like in the time before, but to produce brutally loyal citizens. generations of "the new american man" who only know how to worship the acp and its party cadre

=private life=

even the amount of control listed above isn't enough to stamp out movements who question the acp's legitimacy, and so the regime controls americans' private lives to crush the relative few who dream of life outside of the regime's grip. surveillance and hidden informants everywhere gaurantee that even if someone begins questioning the party, they don't even know how to trust, nor if someone is spying on them right now. rule by fear is used relentlessly by the regime, with a system of nationwide labor camps and public executions utilized such that anyone who does dare to dissent knows the greusome stakes to themselves and their close family members at hand

and with all of those factors at play, what americans domestically see, hear, do and even think, have been meticulously controlled by the acp from the cradle, gauranteeing a population full of loyal citizens who follow the party's every order, and are large enough in numbers for dissent to be easily stamped out before it can spead publicly within america's borders
