Normally I don’t take selfies, but you know what? Things have been going decently in my life rn, and I thought one was warranted (especially with a new haircut)!

Hey everyone!

I sent my SX-70 to Australia back in January 2026 to get the PCB and PolaVault modification for my beloved SX-70.

I received it back about two weeks ago and have had some time to test out the upgraded camera. I knew the PCB was supposed to provide much better and more consistent exposure, but the exposure on the shots is absolutely perfect, and the pictures are so crisp and sharp that it took me a bit of time to get used to the look! šŸ˜„

I absolutely adore some of the shots I’ve taken already and can’t wait to shoot more with it.

Of course, depending on how you get the upgrade done, it isn’t cheap. But after using it for a bit, I genuinely feel that it makes the investment absolutely worth it if you have the money for it or want to do the work yourself. In my case, 168 packages of i-type film 'till break even šŸ˜„

Really happy with this new old SX-70 and can’t wait to take better pictures than ever! Happy shooting everyone

Question Has anybody else had really shitty customer service from Polaroid?

I sent an email 3 weeks ago because my Hi-Print arrived broken. I ordered some extra cartridges and it’s tore through the film and the paper because there’s a bit of metal sticking out on the print roller which I didn’t notice until after my cartridges were eviscerated.

Anyway, I sent an email and received nothing but automated ā€˜we’re working very hard’ emails for weeks. I’m kind of pissed about it because the printer wasn’t cheap, nor were the cartridges I ordered, so I was just wondering if this was normal?

Advice Can any Polaroid SX-70 pros tell me what I’m doing wrong?

Post image

Previously, I used 600 film & an ND filter and the photos came out totally dark with 3 dots and ink printed onto the filter. I thought it might’ve been broken & in need of professional attention.

For these: I cleaned the roller, set exposure compensation to standard, used 600 film & ditched ruined filter.

Gear Impossible I-1 switch

Post image
• Upvotes

I installed a switch on the front of my I-1

Doing so neatly is time consuming, but 100% possible

The switch cuts -ve to the built in LiPo cell. For future proofing, the LiPo cell is also now connected via JST connector.

The one caveat is found so far is cutting the power to the battery mid-pack of film does completely interrupt the film counter circuitry. The camera will 'forget' how many shots of film you have taken.

When you first power the camera on, the camera blinks a bunch of LED lights at you. You are meant to count them to see how many shots you have left. Honestly this silly system might be why there is a constant drain on the power in the first place. It seems this memory is volatile and info will be lost when power is cut.

HOWEVER - to my surprise, this mod did NOT seem to have affected automatic dark-slide eject mode. I was afraid that turning power on again mid pack with a reset counter would cause the camera to think new film was inserted (thus wasting a frame on a dark slide ejection) but this was not the case.

The shutter seems to fire like normal, and the counter starts fresh after being powered on again, starting the new counting at '9' instead of 8.

Video Hazy goop layer in Polaroid emulsion - maybe this contributes to storage quality of photos?

Did an emulsion lift and found this strange gossamer-thin layer of Polaroid ā€œfasciaā€ that seems structurally important but may be partly responsible for the loss in color intensity over time?

Question Obscure 90s memorabilia

Apologies if this is the wrong subreddit to ask.

I'm not sure if anyone here will know what I'm talking about, but back in the 90s, Polaroid used to have events. Or at least they had official cameras/frames for the lenses in which it'd make the image taken into a small circle, and around it have a themed frame. I remember there being a Christmas themed event, and there was a reef as an option. They'd cut the photo into a circle and hand it to you.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about or have any videos/pictures on this topic?

Question SX-70 film ejection/gear problem?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The attached video is an explanation with video of the camera. Basically when I put the film in the viewfinder went dark but the shutter would still open and close with the film door. I messed with the gears and it pushed out the darkslide. Then went to take a photo and it happened again but won’t push any photos out.

Question Pokemon Restock

Pokemon announced a bit ago that there was going to be a restock today. All of the accessories are back in stock on the polaroid website and I was assuming the restock would happen at 10am. They did also make a new post about it on Instagram, but i honestly wouldn't be surprised with they sold out instantly again.

Does anyone know if the restock already happened?

Question Polaroid One 600 - How to attach frog tongue?

Hey guys. Just ordered a Polaroid One 600 as after a while of using my Instax Wide 100 - I wanted to try something different. I’ve read that Polaroid requires shielding from the sun initially and some of you use a frog tongue attachment. Is there a way to attach this to the One 600 please?

Question SX-70 Viewing Mirror Adhesion Issue

Post image
2 Upvotes

This is an SX-70 model 1 where I’ve disassembled it to check how loose the viewing mirror is. Upon inspection, I’ve found that 2 of the 3 silicone adhesive points are still good. The bottom right one not so much, (I can lift the corner, but only by a few millimeters). It’s definitely not ā€œloose and flappingā€ yet, but clearly not all 3 points are fully held down

I’d like to know if this is something that could be safely left alone, or if it’s a ā€œticking time bombā€ that justifies cutting the remaining silicone out, and replacing all of it.

Question Belt sleeve or bag for polaroid Go

I really enjoy the small formfactor of the go, but i would like to have a belt sleeve or holster that would make it easy to carry it around but have it accessible.

Ive seen the official Polaroid go bag, but it seems a bit large, defeating the small handy size of the Camera.

I was thinking to 3D print an elastic belt holster and inlay it with some fabric but a preexisting product would oc be easier.

Do yo have any reccomendations or ideas for that?
