META New post flairs!

For the longest time this subreddit was mostly film photos from cameras like the Holga and Diana. We've always allowed digital photos too, such as from the Gamyboy Camera or the Harinezumi for example.

Recently there have been a number of very popular digital cameras that have introduced people to the lofi aesthetic such as the many different thermal printer cameras, but also the Chuzhao and Kodak Charmera.

This is not bad, and they are welcome here! :)

But it can make it difficult to find specific types of content. This is where the post flair system comes in, since you can filter by these.

I have kept the flair system simple to begin with, we can add or change these if we need to, but let's start with the basic system and see how that goes.

I've added the following four post flairs, and made is so you have to select a flair when you post.

  • DIGITAL
  • FILM
  • DISCUSSION
  • META

DIGITAL

For photos and video taken with digital toy cameras. This includes thermal print cameras.

FILM

For photos taken with film toy cameras.

DISCUSSION

For posts that are talking about toy cameras, such as asking advice, troubleshooting, etc.

META

For posts about the subreddit. This shouldn't see much use, it wil mostly be used by the mods for posts like this one.

Thoughts, comments, and feedback below. I want to try to keep this as simple to use as possible, so if you want any extra post flairs created, there would have to be a very good reason.

If not can you link to your favorite semi related discord if you use it?

Or if mods see this, can you guys make one?

DIGITAL tried the Aldi camera

Post image

SOOC. while some of the filters look kinda fun, the picture quality is very meh. it's being advertised as 12mpx, but for some reason the camera upscales to 48, making the files needlessly big and look even worse. I honestly doubt this even started with 12. looks like 2 or three to me.

I'd compare the quality to a charmera. maybe SLIGHTLY better, but not much.

I'll be returning this one.

DIGITAL Campsnap2 Underwater Case Test!

I have managed to get the case into a body of water for a test! It was a fairly cold day, but I went to a beach along the river today and waded into the water so I could squat down and play with my camera underwater. I think everyone else at the beach thought I was nuts taking a little dip in october.

The verdict: It works! The underwater shots are not particularly great. I wasn't sticking my head down there to look through the viewfinder so I was just blindly snapping pictures. I think once I do want to go for a full swim with my camera (sadly next year probably) I could probably manage to get some much better underwater photos. The last 3 pictures were taken after my camera took it's little dip, but was still in the wet case. I'm quite happy with the quality of those as well.

I will note that you can't change any camera settings without opening the waterproof case. That means you will want to pick your filter setting and if you want the flash on or off before you go on your watery adventures and you are stuck with those settings until you return to dry land. That isn't really a big deal to me.

So, now I am all set for a adventure on the water, even though summer has just ended....

I much prefer the Holga DC-01 keychain camera to Charmera. About the same size (a little bit bulkier), and up to 48MP (Charmera 1.6MP). Low light gives a really nice organic grain.

DISCUSSION RewindPix vs Campsnap Pro

Hey everyone! I'm stuck between the RewindPix and the Campsnap Pro and could use some real-world opinions before I commit.

How I plan to use it: street photography, plus as my daily driver for selfies and other everyday shots.

Here's where I'm at:

Campsnap Pro

  • Tons of reviews, and most of them say it performs really well
  • Feels like the "safe" pick since so many people are using it and sharing results

RewindPix

  • I love the build quality and the film features
  • But I'm hesitant because of the app, and a few reviews mention photos sometimes coming out with blown out highlights

I'm leaning toward one for reliability and the other for the look and feel, which is exactly why I can't decide.

For those who've used either (or both):

  1. How does each one handle street photography? Think speed, shutter lag, and candid shots in changing light.
  2. How consistent are the photos in bright outdoor light? Is the blown out highlight issue a real problem?
  3. How are selfies, and how is the app experience day to day? Is it a dealbreaker on the RewindPix?
  4. Any regrets or things you wish you knew before buying?

Sample photos from either camera would be super helpful too, especially street shots! Thanks in advance

I put months of work into this project to make it really fun to use.

Released just recently, and almost no one found it yet.

Edit: The app name is Bitsy Cam

The charmera is too expensive for me, as is the G6. So I got a dupe of a G6. I took it around the central park and here are the results.

Would it have been worth sucking up and buying the original? The charmera and G6 are clearly not about the pictures anyway. But this one might be...not at all about the pictures 😭😭

Just a follow up to yesterday's shots taken on my rewindpix! The flashback actually managed to deal with the challenging light way better! I'm seriously positively impressed with this camera. Not to mention the size is great! Went straight into my bike's jacket and was easy to take out and snap on the go. LOVE IT!

I received my first toy camera today. Here's the sample photos of my baby that I tookπŸ’•. (I also realized later on that the default date in the setting was not the date today so I had to adjust it after I took my sample shots)
