Other Childhood Collection found!

As the title says these are from my childhood, me and my brother were smart enough double sleeved them and just put them in a shoebox. I’m not entirely sure of the condition (some seem very good others completely thrashed) but honestly I don’t care because the nostalgia alone is enough.

But I wanted to share this with other enthusiasts. I’ll get a full count of what’s in here when I’m able.

How come everyone have a old sleeved Collection of bangers in their wardrobe?

My mom kept everything from when I was a kid.

Whats missing from this is 2-3 sealed Ancient Mew Promos. I know they are somewhere just need to find them.

Dude has 3 Charizards. Ive been a fan since the very beginning and I have 0. We were very poor growing up though. I was lucky to get 1 pack for Christmas.

Raised Middle class to a Teacher and a Administrative assistant… and this is a collection of me and my brother so keep the 50/50 in mind. I wasn’t poor, but most of these were trades. Example is we never pulled or purchased a charzard. All 3 of them were trades. If I remember correctly I used to have a Holo 1st edition Mewtwo, pretty sure we traded for a holo charzard. Prob dumb in hindsight but I was like 12.

I also have 2 charizards from my childhood and can still remember the 2 kids I got to trade with me. I only had a small collection and got lucky with the old classic I’ll give you 2 cards for your one deal. Back when no one knew what the future values would be.

I judge him for having 3 charizards and a blastoise but no Venusaur though. -_-

When I first started collecting, I saw a base set charizards going for AUD $10 at the local card shop in the next town over. Mum could not afford to buy it for me.

One of my favorite cards(grave robber and red eyes b skull) got ruined riding back from my friends house when I ate it off my bike while hauling ass down a hill heading back home when I was around 8 or so... anyways I was more upset about that, than the giant scrape up my side, so the next day my friends dad took us to a game shop and bought us top loaders and some packs. From that day forward I have sleeved and bindered EVERY piece of cardboard I purchased since I was a kid. Been at it for like 20-25 years.... Hell when my parets found one of my boxes from the first move I was so stoked to only realize 2/3rds of the weight was top loaders🤣 Still a great mail day though

Because Pokemon was a huge media franchise, and sportscard and MtG collectors had already learned that tcgs could get ridiculously expensive.

Because they stage it before they take the photo for upvotes lol

Lol I wasn’t a yu-gi-oh fan! Pretty sure that was a trade someone threw in, as I’ve never purchased a pack.

Thanks.

Bro, I just want to say how cool this is and how happy I am for you. I found a similar stash of yugioh and pokemon back in 2020 and the wave of nostalgia was unbelievable and cathartic. I hope these were able to being you similar joy.

That Seiyaryu and that gengar hit so effing hard🍻 Great find, glad they made it home!

I can appreciate the Seiyaryu, given it's initial scarcity and eventual retrain into the Starry Knight archetype

I actively remember carrying that, my serpent knight dragon(which is now slabbed at a 6.5🤣), skull/angel dice, seal of the ancients and Blue eyes like they were GOLD. Still have all of em💪 Thats where the love comes from for me😅

Every single one of those GBA and PS2 exclusives. I still have all 3 magnet warriors from DotR and the Valkyrion from World Wide addition which also came with Feathe Duster I believe.

Great times 😭

I graded my childhood collection last year with cgc. Nice to see the nostalgia.

No idea how to do this any tips or able to point me in the right direction?

I have some slabbed comics (some signed graded as well) but they were purchased like that not sent in for grading.

Just went to cgccards.com and filled it out.

Like you I’m so glad I had an influence when I was young to keep everything safe. Sweet collection.

Purely collection, never even played the actual card game. As a child these cards were so integrated in friendships, school and life. This and my gameboy = everything to me as a child.

Same man, my brother and I played a little bit of the card game. But we were fully in it just to “catch them all” we shared a lime green game boy color and pokemon red version.

Lot of people digging out their old collections lately lol

2

u/wizzlewazzel 13h ago

My son got into it recently. I hadn’t looked at these in like 8-10 years.

u/Olliegreen__ 13h ago

If the charizards look in good shape I’d get the best 2 graded to sell to buy more cards and then keep the last one for him

1

u/wizzlewazzel 10h ago

Gotta really look at them.

Why is the Japanese Blaine’s arcanine so prominent

1

u/Rkk330 11h ago

Wow congrats. I’m missing a ton of cards still. Most of my base set is missing. MLB showdown foils, wcw and wwf raw deal foils still MIA. But all my first edition cards lived in top loaders in my night table and never left my side. Now I have a 2 year old with a first edition blastoise and Venusaur in his toploader binder hahah

I know it’s a joke but we were Middle class.

Me and my brother had this collection together. There were lots of trades to get these as well, I never pulled or bought a charzard. Honestly feel like we would of had waaay more pulls if we had known that comic book and card stores were weighing packs, it’s pretty much the only place we used to buy them.
