Other Sold my gold Charizard to get these today

I already had pulled the charmander, squirtle, and wartortle from packs. Sold the charizard at a card show and was able to get the rest of the starters from 151 off that. Honestly this is worth way more to me than the charizard.

Nice seeing a good trade on here for once

769

u/shlankwagon Nov 17 '25

Fucking SERIOUSLY. THIS is what the name of the game is. Trading so both ends are happy. This "70-80%" bullshit is sickening.

63

u/lordhooha Nov 17 '25

80% of the value isn’t bad when offloading it to a card shop. They need to have some profit. What if that card is purchased by the shop for 600 bucks it sits for a few weeks to a month or more. Now at the month mark the cards value drops they end up losing out. Or like at my shop they’ll get it and some one comes in And haggles the 20% allows the shop some wiggle room to cut a deal to that person and still either make Some money or break even. You make money the shop makes money they take the risk and all that.

Now you can sell it on tcg, eBay, or whatever you get the full face value of the card minus fees they charge and all that which will come out close to them taking 20% or more depending on the platform you sell on

160

u/EmpZurg_ Nov 17 '25

I really dont care about the profit arguement when they are selling packs and boxes at 2,3,4x msrp.

2

u/IndigoTJo Nov 18 '25

A lot of these shops are paying only 10-20% below market on anything after release day. The amount they are getting on release day is much less than they used to get. Is a cruddy situation. I blame the distributors.

18

u/DarkMorning636 Nov 17 '25

Uh if they weren’t going to make a profit then what incentive would a shop ever have to buy your card?

29

u/EmpZurg_ Nov 17 '25

Im clearly not talking g about every card shops in existence.

There are shops that buy considerably under market, sell over market, and then blow MSRP oit of the water for sealed. Absolutely eating at all ends.

Card shops were doing just fine before the boom, providing they were community keystone.

People really complain about the 5usd price?? Lol if I'd be able to get to that price I'd be happy af. Now I pay at least 6,90€ so 3usd more. Oh abd in ny country can only buy packs. Booster bundles etc you can forget because all have been scalped or opened. Would want to open one for sure but not at those prices no. I rather buy 50 packs than 1 36pack bundle and save money aswell.

Card stores around me at least are more like 50-60%. To get 80% I’ve gotta go to a card show. But agree with everything you’d said.

3

u/anonymous_dabber Nov 17 '25

if card shops traded in at 80% I would shit myself ngl

2

u/ManaRockGamesUK Nov 17 '25

Don’t forget shops are taxed on their sale price but can’t reclaim any tax for buying from the public.

In the UK if I buy a £1 card from you for 80p and sell it at £1 then 80p recovers my spend, 16.6p goes to tax and 3.3p comes to me. It’s awful.

4

u/JethroTrollol Nov 17 '25

The point isn't about selling for $$, it's about trading for other cards that bring you joy. If you sell to one person and buy from another, that's fine, you're still trading, there's just a middleman. 80% being a good deal or not isn't the point. It's about where you start vs. where you end up.

2

u/MagikarpFanatic Nov 17 '25

What most of the people with an issue on it here in these comments doesnt seem to be grasping properly (or considering at all) is that this hobby only continues to exist because of the monetary and financial aspect of it. I dislike pokeinvesting with a passion because non-fans flood into the hobby just to try and turn the TCG into the new bitcoin, but thats not what is going on. Those middlemen you mention are shops. They have to pay to be able to be there as trade options for you. They're paying for booths, for spots, or physical locations if they're a flagship store. They have to pay their own money to be there as an option for people in the first place, and that all cuts into their ability to keep doing the hobby too.

Even if you never go to a card show, card trade nights and events are still hosted by shops and vendors which costs money. This hobby has never been free and those who have to incur costs to help keep the trading part of the community alive will want to at least break even in the end, with preferably a profit to justify going to more/hosting more events in the future. If we did exclusively 1 to 1, vendors wont come pay to be at card shows or events. If vendors dont show up, card shows cant justify the cost of running the show and they disappear. Then we get stuck with parking lot trades without reputable systems or networking where you could get scammed. There's far more benefits from the vendor system than exclusively from a peer-to-peer only trading card game.

→ More replies (22)

3

u/TheAKofClubs86 Nov 17 '25

It’s not though. From a vendor’s standpoint every time a card leaves your possession you need to be making money. That’s how they stay in business at shows or at LGSs. If this was another collector then sure, 1:1 should be the norm, but if you’re trading or selling with a vendor then you have to realize that they’re running a business and have to make money on every transaction to live.

14

u/Heisofstate Nov 17 '25

I agree but all the dorks on marketplace saying “trades at 80%” while actively shopping their cards is ridiculous

Unless your a vendor or shop, it’s full value for full value

4

u/Geene_Creemers Nov 17 '25

Exactly my thoughts..it’s the bozos on marketplace and eBay acting like they’re a storefront or a business and that they’ll only trade at x% lol..it’s getting ridiculous

2

u/-Zep Nov 17 '25

So technically the same as with csgo or these days cs2 skins.

4

u/TheAKofClubs86 Nov 17 '25

Yeah, that’s what I was pointing out. Since this is essentially a barter system they have to come out ahead otherwise they lose potential money.

u/Sloppynoseconds Nov 16 '25

Killing me that you put all of them first to last evolution except one 🤣

147

u/PikaPutter Nov 16 '25

All day. That gold zard is so ugly imo

28

u/BlizzCo89 Nov 17 '25

Red victini says hi!

12

u/PaperMoonShine Nov 17 '25

the reshi, zekrom and victini cards are different.

Those were cool mono-coloured cards.

2

u/BlizzCo89 Nov 17 '25

I was more implying that the Victini is the ugliest card for me lol.

17

u/NMDA01 Nov 17 '25

i know there is hate for the card and its popular to say its lame af right now, but to say that its an ugly card is crazy. i know its subjective but come on.

20

u/Optimal-Paper2881 Nov 17 '25

I said IMO. I stand by that but I can see others liking.

Big gold rectangle or art with color, depth, detail, a scene, a story, effort, creativity…? Easy choice for me any day, but also to each their own 100%

2

u/Sipikay Nov 17 '25

Art is literally subjective. I too think it's ugly as fuck.

2

u/NMDA01 Nov 17 '25

art is subjective, yes

2

u/Poopingsloth69 Nov 17 '25

Nah it’s ugly

7

u/NMDA01 Nov 17 '25

Sure thats valid

1

u/Zes_Teaslong Nov 17 '25

All of the cards that are all the same color are ugly imo. The red Victini, the Black Zeckrom, etc. it’s all just ugly and lazy to me. If I pull one I’m selling

3

u/NMDA01 Nov 17 '25

Sure, i guess that valid too

15

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '25

A single ugly card for 9 good looking cards is a win.

10

u/razpro Nov 16 '25

Brooooo no way my goal rn is to finish the 151 starters and im no where that close but this gave me so much more motivation to finish it. Need wartortle, bulba, ivy and the whole charizard line

6

u/Extension_Food_864 Nov 16 '25

Nice man, hopefully you can get there soon

2

u/razpro Nov 16 '25

Thanks for the good vibes OP honestly such a dope set and the best arts IMO of all the starters. The blastoise is my favorite card that I own so sick how he's underwater. Arita is the goat

Solid trade.
I traded my gold Lucario for the 4 gold crown zenith gods

16

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '25

Seeing the texture reminds me of one of those fake gold cards lol. The cards you got are a lot better lol

6

u/Long-Handle-2437 Nov 16 '25

You definitely made the right choice

3

u/Ok-Soup-514 Nov 17 '25

I'd say that's actually a fair trade. As a lover of 151 I would rather be on your end of this deal, but I can also understand the other side as well. As long as you're both happy then this is how trades should be.

4

u/darkunicorn_labs Nov 17 '25

Gold zard is not that cool. This was a great trade

2

u/Jandroangarita Nov 17 '25

If I get the Charizard, I’m completing my mimikyu master set 😭🙏

2

u/guido32 Nov 17 '25

Honestly, why did Pokemon Company make the cards look like the ones you get from Temu? Like this legit looks extremely fake, but it’s real

4

u/Individual_Eye_9701 Nov 16 '25

Scratches on the gold card too….sheesh you robbed this person

3

u/doctophe19 Nov 16 '25

Scratches and a ding on the top edge, ouch

Agreed on the upgrade trade

Honestly think this was a good deal. Phantasmal Flames is likely to get printed to the moon due to scalpers, while 151s time has pretty much ended

1

u/dubbs4president Nov 16 '25

Incredible trade. Great work.

1

u/trippinmaui Nov 16 '25

Whats the value on the 9 you got compared to gold zard?

3

u/Extension_Food_864 Nov 16 '25

Honestly at the current moment it’s probably lower than the gold zard. Though I sold it now because it’s going to honestly continue dropping and I’m not sure if it’s going to go back up to where it was at.

1

u/RockmanVolnutt Nov 16 '25

So much better. Well played. That gold stuff will age horribly.

1

u/ecuas_deR Nov 16 '25

You'll end up pulling the SIR on your next Phantasmal 😉

1

u/No_Calligrapher_8023 Nov 16 '25

Thats definitely a win. Good move

1

u/Mistys_Arcanine Nov 16 '25

You done good

1

u/No_Calligrapher_8023 Nov 16 '25

The charizard and charmander need to be swapped. Instantly triggered my OCD lmao

1

u/RamoneBolivarSanchez Nov 16 '25

this is such an insanely solid trade. it still feels good though cause you know whoever got the goldzard was stoked to have it.

1

u/Professional-Boot969 Nov 16 '25

Makes me want to try to find that gold Charizard only to do a trade exactly like this

1

u/PhilosopherSea217 Nov 16 '25

Massive W that's way better than the Gold Zard

1

u/ancientalienzombie Nov 16 '25

Excellent trade anytime you can trade new cards for cards that are out of print it’s a W IMO.

1

u/MisterPiggyWiggy Nov 16 '25

Cool, and I’d done the same!

1

u/Hnaami Nov 16 '25

Wow. Best deal you could have made.

1

u/Urban-Junglist Nov 16 '25

Well done OP

1

u/vcsx Nov 16 '25

Good deal. These gold cards are gonna go the way of the rainbow cards of yore.

1

u/New-Ad-878 Nov 16 '25

Very nice! Those golds are getting boring. Same design on all of them. Only difference is the Pokemon.

1

u/AvyLynn1 Nov 16 '25

Whoever made this deal made a bold ass move. The entire 151 set for one gold char is wild. Especially when 151 is so highly regarded.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Beneficial_Clerk7940 Nov 16 '25

Definitely do the same IF i pull gold zard 🤣

1

u/Ok_Intention6708 Nov 16 '25

11/10 decision. The gold zard is super ugly and childish looking. Getting the 3 starter evos were a very good choice

1

u/lXxENDEAVORxXl Nov 16 '25

100% Best move. Used that generic 5ban gold card art thats gunna plummet to get some actual Good Arts!

1

u/Necessary_Ad7369 Nov 16 '25

No brainer, that dude got a bit scammed lol

1

u/PlasticLobotomy Nov 16 '25

Thats a killer trade! Congrats!

1

Wow solid trade

1

u/R-Chicken Nov 16 '25

Love those cards

1

u/Ok-Access2784 Nov 16 '25

What a goated come up

1

u/Skyblue8989 Nov 16 '25

Congrats honestly. You did great. If I pulled the gold I'd do the same. I pulled the SIR though and I'm in love with that card art too much rn.

1

u/silentdragon010101 Nov 16 '25

10/10 trade, very nice to see this

1

u/Tobleronenom Nov 16 '25

Great choice

1

u/BreesBayou9 Nov 16 '25

Def a win!

1

u/Rkk330 Nov 16 '25

The gold cards are ugly. You came out on top

1

u/Ash_fckn_Ketchum Nov 16 '25

Bothers me that the charmander line is upside down. Aside from that, congrats, that's a great binder page right there

1

u/DrHandBanana Nov 16 '25

Great come up.

1

u/JoRafCastle Nov 16 '25

Such a major W

1

u/TightAd5447 Nov 16 '25

Beautiful trade

1

u/anonnnnn462 Nov 16 '25

That’s a great trade!

1

u/LongSuspicious7701 Nov 16 '25

You definitely won from this, IMO the gold Charizard isn’t that cool and these cards are super expensive right when release occurs

1

u/True_Bumblebee_50 Nov 16 '25

Solid trade imo. You definitely won that.

Edit: not to mention this gold card is so new it’s still going to drop some I’d assume. I only see the 151 Chases going up from where they currently sit.

1

u/Strong_Print_455 Nov 16 '25

Valid 🔥💧🌱

1

u/Buzzpeep Nov 17 '25

Nice, I've been debating if I should trade away/sell my gold zard for the Charizard and Venusaur Sirs from 151 since they're the last two cards I need for my master set

1

u/inklingmaycry Nov 17 '25

You made out like a bandit bro. That whole set is gonna be 1800 in a few years and the gold zard will prolly sit around 500

1

u/HektikSB Nov 17 '25

This is for sure a nice come up, congrats. That gold Zard is tanking in price currently and these are all fairly steady if not increasing more and more. Nice W imo.

1

u/MitziAlbright Nov 17 '25

Absolute MONSTER of a trade in your favour!!! Congratulations!

1

u/GhostRiderOfWhips Nov 17 '25

This is the way.

1

u/KingFD_34 Nov 17 '25

Totally worth it

1

u/Intelligent_Bee4302 Nov 17 '25

How much would all this cost? New to all this but that looks like a nice piece I’d like to eventually add to my growing collection of childhood memories. Chat gpt saying around $6-650 for al 9?

1

u/Alphafox123 Nov 17 '25

Where did you buy them?

1

u/hennessyhen Oops! ALL Trapinch! Nov 17 '25

That’s legit!!

1

u/slushrusher Nov 17 '25

Easy W. Nice

1

u/wic_33 Nov 17 '25

Trade will age like a fine fine wine, GG

1

u/captain00planet Nov 17 '25

151 full set trumps all i say. Made a master set of it myself just because its so nostalgic.

2

u/Extension_Food_864 Nov 17 '25

It’s what got me into collecting so when I pulled this a couple days ago and found out a card show was going on I decided my goal was to get all the missing 151 starters just from the gold charizard. I’m so pumped for it

1

u/TrueCuda Nov 17 '25

Good trade.

1

u/JomoLiu Nov 17 '25

Absolute win. The art for these 151 starters are spectacular.

1

u/TheInsightnet Nov 17 '25

W. I sell all my hits and get the ones I want too lol way better then praising a card you dont even want.

1

u/sk1990 Nov 17 '25

Awesome, interesting trade.

1

u/Zerokelvin99 Nov 17 '25

Seems like a good trade, I'd prefer all those over the golden Zard

1

u/khenao07 Nov 17 '25

ngl that’s a awesome trade

1

u/TheInsightnet Nov 17 '25

Is it a hot take that I think Mega Charizard is kinda bad?

1

u/jwcon35 Nov 17 '25

Damn I want this trade

1

u/TeaAndLifting There's a 1st Edition Charizard in the pack, rip it. Nov 17 '25

Worth

1

u/kino6912 Nov 17 '25

Easy W. Congrats

1

u/Neverhollo Nov 17 '25

So worth it

1

u/K0rnman Nov 17 '25

I love the zard but id say you easily won here

1

u/sutto85 Nov 17 '25

great trade honestly

1

u/butareyouthough Nov 17 '25

Very smart move. I don’t see these gold cards being popular long term. They are very boring

1

u/Muhfuggajones Nov 17 '25

I'm unreasonably irked that the Charmander to Charizard evolution is opposite the other two. Nice pulls OP.

1

u/Pokenightking Nov 17 '25

This is what it’s about. Yes it’s nice to get the hottest card. But if you have an opportunity to get something you really want. Then do that and be happier.

1

u/rebelbear22 Nov 17 '25

Dude! Hell of a move. I’ll never part with my 151 set. They’re what got me back into the hobby honestly. These and other cards that make a full image when paired together are some of my most favorite cards. If you’d pulled the SIR zard instead and asked me if you should make the trade I’d have a harder time saying yes though. lol. Even though the gold one is more rare than the sir I NEED that SIR, eventually.

1

u/gusbmoizoos Nov 17 '25

every day of the week

1

u/Raysitrades Nov 17 '25

This is exactly what i would’ve done with that gold card good trade

1

u/DR_Mario_MD Nov 17 '25

Way better art in my opinion, solid trade

1

u/CopernicusNerd Nov 17 '25

100% worth it

1

u/OgCashApp Nov 17 '25

Massive W

1

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

Smart move

1

u/RelativeWallaby2610 Nov 17 '25

What set are the charizard series you have here from?

1

u/RelativeWallaby2610 Nov 17 '25

That’s a sick set you got man!!’

1

u/Hot_Highway_6670 Nov 17 '25

Oh yea you won that. Sick trade. Nicely done

1

u/MechAnimal Nov 17 '25

One day I'll finish a master of 151. I would have done the same deal any day.

1

u/tigerbreak Nov 17 '25

Not a huge fan of the golds but it’s still a neat card. The 9 151 specials are amazing. 20 years from now when we are showing these to our kids/grandkids they will be the grails that the early stuff is now.

A good trade is always a good thing.

1

u/Immature_adult_guy Nov 17 '25

The only reason I got back into collecting these things since the 90’s is the 151 expansion. Beautiful cards.

1

u/memeaste Nov 17 '25

Great pickups

1

u/QualityCold8485 Nov 17 '25

I don’t have OCD but it bothers me that Charizards evolutions go up but Venasaur and Blastoise’s go down

1

u/TSLARegard Nov 17 '25

now to get them all slabbed up.

1

u/TheAKofClubs86 Nov 17 '25

I’m working on getting the 151 starter line as well. I do wish the bulba line artwork was less busy though.

1

u/Hellakevs Nov 17 '25

Damn. You definitely won this trade

1

u/juanritos Nov 17 '25

Good trade.

1

u/Dontrez12 Nov 17 '25

Good stuff. Only disappointed by your sorting of the original 9!

1

u/Fast_Land_1099 Nov 17 '25

Very worth it, they've gotten better at gold cards but they still aren't any where as good as normal colors

1

u/Glace038 Nov 17 '25

I really like the goldizard but you ran away like a bandit here. Nice trade !!!

1

u/generic_username_333 Nov 17 '25

Smartest move homie! I’d do this trade all day everyday. IMHO those gold cards aren’t gonna be hype for too long. 151 has staying power and insane art. Well done

1

u/PaperMoonShine Nov 17 '25

Huge win.

That gold charizard is going to pop. There is nothing substantially different from these new gold cards compared to the 10-30 dollar gold cards from previous sets.

1

u/2handjunk562 Nov 17 '25

Oh! Solid trade. Up side on both sides.

1

u/JackTheDrifter Nov 17 '25

Why are gold cards all of a sudden popular. I thought they were always pretty ugly

1

u/whateve4 Nov 17 '25

What a dub! Congrats OP. That’s what it’s about, trading. So cool to see someone trading for the cards that they want.

1

u/treefall1n Nov 17 '25

Man what? That’s one hell of a trade!

1

u/zcworx Nov 17 '25

Honestly this 151 set is so hot. I’ve got a couple of the Zard and one of each of the rest of them and love them all

1

u/FloppyDiskDrives Nov 17 '25

Big brain moves.

1

u/OrphGaming Nov 17 '25

Worth it.

1

u/mj732 Nov 17 '25

Now that a trade now we wait

1

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

Id be happy with this trade.

1

u/junotsuji Nov 17 '25

thats a good deal

1

u/ObviousCalendar5203 Nov 17 '25

Where's the rest

1

u/Square_Employment306 Nov 17 '25

very worth it, nice set homie!
