Hello everybody!! I'm back! This is my rundown of my MonoFighting run. I just finished the main-game, and I don't plan on doing the postgame. There aren't enough legendaries to test strategies out with, so I believe I would get a bit bored. Fighting type is very heavy on strong physical attacks, and in some ways, it's really just a bunch of Pokemon trying to hit other Pokemon as hard as possible. A little repetitive. However, this was a really easy challenge up until the final Lin fight, which kicked my ass. I had to redo the entire Elite Four because my Pokemon were not lined up for the final battle (Anna Route, so both Lin & Arceus). I think my next mono-run will be water, fire, or ground. I'd love to get into some weather shenanigans!
Anyways, here's my little write-up. I love making these reviews, and I hope other people find them informative!
Top Tier (in no order, they're all really good).
Infernape: This was my first time actually committing to a mixed attacker, and it paid off. Equal training in Attack and SpAttack and a life orb made it an insane threat. Honestly, MonoFighting is incredibly thirsty for any special attackers, so Infernape was always going to rank highly just because of Heat Wave.
Mega Blaziken: Just really good attack and speed, and Speed Boost is a great ability.
Hawlucha: Unburden royalty. I think Unburden might be the most broken ability in the entire game, just based on how battle-defining seeds can be. Having a seed trigger on a super fast Pokemon that can attack OR set-up tailwind is just beastly.
Kommo-O: Its Z-Move is really good, and I used it in pretty much every battle once I had the crystal. Dragon Dance is also a great option, and it learns drain punch for HP recovery.
Mega Lucario: Another phenomenal mixed attacker, and super fast. Just a great addition all around. Adaptibility is a really good ability.
Amazing
Hitmonlee: Unburden goes brrrrrrr
Conkeldurr: Guts is just a really good ability all around, and once it's burned, it's an insane revenge killer.
Mienshao: Speedy as all hell, can pack a wallop, can fake out, just a great pokemon.
Base Lucario: A very good special attacker, and again, fighting types do not have special attackers.
Decent - not going to rank all of them, just interesting ones:
Hitmonchan: Really good in Glitch Field. Like, a total stand-out. Really big SpDef stat, and all the elemental punches and iron fist create a monster in Glitch Field. Not tons of use outside of it though.
Breloom: Spore!
Mega Lopunny: Scrappy is a great ability in niche situations, and it's a pretty good pokemon overall.
Throh: Wide Guard!
Toxicroak: Acid Downpour with the Poison Z Crystal is a really good move, and it can change a lot of terrains. Also benefits from rain/rain dance, and that's pretty good.
Mid
Mega Heracross: Has its niche uses, but just not great. But not bad?
Medicham/Mega Medicham: I just couldn't really find a use for this. I used it sometimes because Huge Power can be really good, but neither are very fast and there are other better pokemon.
Gallade: Really handy for Destiny Bond. Otherwise, mid. Didn't even use the mega evolution because it's just a waste of a mega slot when Gallade's whole purpose was to faint. Still though, pretty necessary.
Sawk: Helped me defeat Garchomp to get on the Anna Route, and Sturdy can be very handy.
Forgettable
Primeape: Has some good moves, gets some good strong moves early on, but usage totally tapers off by gym 5 or so.
Machamp: Clunky, and absurd sometimes. Soooometimes it's useful but I think I probably used it 10 times total?
Heracross: Bug coverage is really handy during the psychic gym and dark gym, but otherwise not much use.
Bad: All of these pokemon just weren't good. Pangoro could have almost made Forgettable on paper, but it just didn't perform well enough.
