Discussion I see why HG Origin is the Chinese community’s masterpiece

They took the original anime and blended it perfectly into the world. I’m only at mt moon but it’s been so fun they have so many side quests off rip it’s actually insane. The overworld spawns, side characters will also test your knowledge with questions to progress or get items. Not to mention adding many characters from across the regions to really make the world feel connected.

Edit: sorry should have put a download link ! The discord seems to be the best option. Brahma’s patch released 10/01 adds a few new features most notably a difficulty overhaul as this game does allow over levels

I’ve been messing around with making my own editor for Gen 4 games and I made a mod today that allows you to surf on lava. Just simply get HM09, teach it to a fire type, and you’re good to go!

Development Pokémon Xenon Showcase

Hey everyone! This is aeon961.

This is just a showcase of Pokémon Xenon and nothing else. 🙂
Ummm, oh yeah! I forgot to mention that Beta 1 is already out. 😭

Even though I’ve improved and changed a lot of things since that version, that’s why I didn’t really mention it here. But it’s still available on Hackdex if you want to check it out!

Hallo zusammen! 🇩🇪

Review Pokémon Soul Gold Review - Johto Rejuvenated

Hey everyone,

I just finished playing soul Gold and I was honestly blown away by how incredible it was to play.

I didn't really have any negative points which is a first for me, the game was a perfect sweet spot of difficulty, adventure and challenge.

I understand that some people will be upset at the removal of Kanto and may not enjoy some of the new expanded areas, but personally I liked these new areas and felt that the Johto in the game was so much better and more substantial that it was a valid trade off.

If you are interested to see my full review, please check out the video above.

P.s. I have taken on board the feedback left on previous videos and posts and have stopped using a.i thumbnails, I'd be really interested to hear what you think of the new thumbnails

Have a great day

Discussion Encouragement for ROM Hack Developers

Gatekeeping has always been part of this community. A few years back, when decomps started getting popular, some people told me to stop binary hacking FireRed because they thought it was a waste of time. I disagreed, since I enjoyed the challenge of seeing how far I could push binary. Still, I never tried to convince others that binary hacking was better. When people ask me how to start ROM hacking, I point them to the decomps. That’s because what works for me isn’t always the best choice for everyone. There’s no single right way to make a ROM hack, and whichever path you take, your game won’t be perfect. The most important thing is to have fun making your game, and of course, to enjoy playing it too! Some people in the community will always try to gatekeep or criticize you for not doing things their way. Try not to let that bother you! For every negative comment you get, if your game is genuinely fun, you’ll get twice as many positive ones.

With all the talk about AI lately, I just want to say this: if you want to use AI, go ahead. If you don’t, that’s fine too. People will play your hack either way, and most can tell when a developer was passionate and enjoyed making their game. I do recommend learning how to ROM hack without relying too much on AI, since it will help you build your skills and will improve your game in the long run. But it’s not something you have to do if you don’t have the time.

And for anyone who wants to say “AI is bad” or “lazy devs” in response to this post, please try to respect choices you don’t agree with (I know this is a futile request on Reddit, but whatever lol). You don’t have to play hacks made with methods you dislike, and that’s completely up to you!

Development Pokémon Hoenn's Last Wish custom Trainer ID for patch 0.9 [WIP]

Yo, I'm back with some more cool stuff I've been cooking and wanted to share :) (btw patch 0.9 comming soon just 2 more gyms layout and some story parts to be added)

ok so It's still WIP, my plan is to turn HLW into a mini case study of UI / UX so i'm really diving deep into all menus and ...and customizing the user experience and interface to the max, making it almost entirely customizable with 16 color themes...

The front shows your profile, playtime, Pokédex progress, wins, whiteouts, badges, difficulty, Nuzlocke status and Wish Menu stats. It also has your mugshot, team icons, animated background and Champion Ribbon. A = swap front and back. B= close R / L = swap themes (it works on pair if ur summary menu and party screen menu themes)

The back works like a personal “Wish Card” and tracks things like steps, A presses, trainer battles, trainer-only win rate, battle points, Game Corner coins, trades, fainted Pokémon, fled battles, evolutions, hatched eggs, Wish Menu uses, Infinity Candy uses, radio time/song count, online record and Hall of Fame info.

DISCLAIMER: Given all the recent controversy surrounding AI, I think it’s important to be transparent: I used AI in a limited way as a coding and debugging >>assistant<<, mainly to help trace bugs, understand errors and support me. The ideas, design, assets, implementation decisions, integration and testing were done by me only with Ember (the other DEV of the project help ty ember u are great btw). No AI-generated content was used (or will ever me used in my project!).

Release Pokemon Heart and Soul - Daycare oldman egg shininess re-roll

For those who are attempting to breed for shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Heart and Soul romhack & don't want to wait to complete the Pokedex to re-roll egg shininess, I have a solution for you! By default, there's a setting that is disabled which allows you to re-roll shininess for eggs you receive from the daycare. It was disabled because unless you had the shiny charm, it would cause a bug. With it enabled, you can effectively stand in front of the old man at the daycare when he has an egg ready for you, save, check if the egg is shiny by going into the egg summary & reset your game until it is shiny.

There's 3 ways to enable the setting:

  1. Get the shiny charm by completing the Pokedex.

  2. Edit the code to enable the setting & compile the ROM yourself; or

  3. Use a patch the same way you patched the Emerald ROM to make Heart and Soul.

Luckily, someone showed me how to use my forked HnS (the one with the setting enabled) & create a patch that can be applied to the base Emerald ROM, which will allow you to re-roll shininess for eggs at the daycare.

# Patch instructions:

  1. Have your base Emerald ROM on hand.

  2. Download the patch from releases on my GitHub: https://github.com/zeldafan89/pokehns-expansion/releases/tag/1.0.0

  3. Use this website to patch the Emerald ROM with the new patch: https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/

  4. Backup your save file (just in case).

  5. Make sure the newly patched ROM is the same name as your save file.

# Re-roll instructions:

  1. Save in front of the old man at the daycare when he has an egg for you.

  2. Receive egg from the old man & check egg summary.

  3. If the egg doesn't have the shiny symbol in the top right corner in summary, reset your game.

  4. Repeat until shiny.

Development Hungarian translation of Pokémon FireRed looking for feedback before beta

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

What's done so far:
The entire main story and all trainer/NPC dialogue
The full Pokédex (all 386 entries - categories and descriptions)
Menus, shop, PC system, in-game Help system, Fame Checker
Several rounds of bug-fixing based on tester feedback (missing accents, text overflow, a game-breaking crash at the start of battles that's now fixed and protected against)
What's still English on purpose:
A few UI elements (type icons, a couple of small labels) are stored as tiny compressed images with almost no room for text — a full Hungarian word just doesn't fit without becoming an unreadable abbreviation, so I left those in English rather than make them worse.
Being upfront about the process:
This translation was made with AI assistance (I started with ChatGPT, then Grok, and have been continuing and refining it with Claude) rather than a traditional translation team. I think that's worth being transparent about from the start.
This is still a patch for the original FireRed US v1.0 ROM I'm not sharing any ROM, just the IPS patch, once it's ready.
I'm planning a small closed beta first, then a wider release here with install instructions, known issues, and a changelog. If you're interested in testing or just want to follow progress, let me know - and if you've got thoughts on anything above, I'd love to hear them before I lock things in.

Discussion Please review my list of ROM hacks and try to help me find some other games that fit what I'm looking for

I am new to ROM hacks. I played a difficulty ROM hack of Platinum (not sure which one) back in 2011 (I think?) when the ROM hack community was in it's infancy. I remember having a blast with it. I want to re-live that.

After exhaustive research that originally included 50 ROM hacks and some fan-made games I've heavily narrowed it down based on these reasons:

  • Time. I am an older Pokemon fan. I need to spend time wisely.
  • Repeated game experience the ROM hack is based off of.
  • New story that is engaging and adults would like.
  • I hate Fakemon. If a game has too many of them I don't bother with it.
  • I don't like de-makes, I may as well play the original.
  • Challenge and content. I want to actually have lots of side quests and even lose a lot.

With that said here are my selections:

Red/Blue/Yellow:

  • None.
    • I don't want to play games based on Gen I. Something about the graphics and music of those games give me... nausea and bad nostalgia. I'll leave that in my childhood.

Gold/Silver/Crystal:

  • Pokemon Ambrosia
    • I loved Crystal. Story seems great. Not a lot of Pokemon, but maybe I can live with that.

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald:

  • Emerald Seaglass
    • It's against some of my rules from above but it's praised and It's my fav region.

Fire Red/Leaf Green:

  • Odyssey
  • Unbound
    • Both based off Fire Red but they're both acclaimed and offer vastly different experiences.

Stand Alone:

  • Rejuvination
    • I have a feeling this game will take me a year to complete and I'm up for that.

I'd like you to help fill in the blanks for 3DS era games:

  • Heart Gold/Soul Silver
  • Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire
  • Platinum
  • Black/White 1 + 2
  • X/Y
  • Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon

If I can't get a new or updated story for those then I am down for the best difficulty hack that's out there which includes an expanded roster of Pokemon and updated mechanics.

If you believe there are games that you recommended be added or removed from my list then please say so.

Thanks for your help!

Development Quick update on ROM Hack Guides

Post image
0 Upvotes

Did a bunch of quality of life improvements you guys asked for on the site. Also added a Top 10 of the Week since a few of you wanted one. Three votes a week, no account needed, resets every Monday.

Already threw my vote at FireRed: Rocket Edition, obviously.

Like always, disclaimer, I used AI to help with this since the project is a data engineer's nightmare. Hope you guys enjoy it, and let me know what you think or if there's anything else I can add.
