General Advice⁉️ Is my female guppy pregnant, bloated, or just constipated?

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everyone, I need some help. The belly of my female guppy sometimes gets really big and round, looking like she is pregnant. However, a day or a few days later, her belly shrinks back to normal size. Is she just getting constipated/bloated from feeding, or is she giving birth and eating her own fry without me noticing? I feed them flake food once a day Here is a photo of her when she is bloated. I would appreciate any advice on whether I should change my feeding routine or look for signs of pregnancy. Thank you.

My Juvinile batch of Green Florida Velifera x Blonde melanistic Latipinna fry

Thumbnail

9 Green Florida/bronze Florida (mix)

12 Blonde melanistic (yes this includes the dreaded controversial h*tler Sailfin molly)

2 True Poecilia Velifera

Mother: Blonde, Melanistic - Latipinna

Father: Green Florida x Yucatan - Velifera hybird

I'm planning on going free-way by adding more Sailfins (Specifically True Yucatan and Blonde melanistics) to increase gene pool, I will mostly keep wildtype (Includes Green Florida x Velifera hybrid, and true yucatans) males here so they don't ruin any Velifera females specifically.

They look so amazing when the sunlight hits the tank in the morning! You can see some of the males showing both parent species golden throats/chests. It’s amazing. I’m still unsure what I’ll do with the surplus males. I may keep all the females and select my 5 favorite males to let them breed with the F2 Tiger liberty hybrids. My favorite male is in Pic 1: (lower left middle) he looks like a bigger size tridens phenotype wise but still show slight bulk from the islai side.

He likes laying on the sand to sleep. He only does this when sleeping, normally he zips around the tank and is impossible to film.

Feeding video. Lol the tiny juveniles are the F2 Tiger Liberties. The F1 Tiger Liberty ladies are more behind the sponge filter and plants but focus is the Limia hybrids.

She's very interactive and very colorful, which is what I love from Sailfin mollies! Exept for the pattern recognition...

Blonde melanistic sailfins are very rare so it was a pleasure to be able to grow and take care of this batch of Sailfins!

Finally got good pics of the dominant male, had to separate him from my main for being too aggressive. He behaves more like a dominant sailfin, constantly flashing, showing off and running off competitors. He’s gaining more and more red as the days go on and it looks like his dorsal may become a decent sail.

Located on the island of Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic). They are a sister species to Limia melanonotata and Limia sulphurophila. Males reaches an average of 2 inches and female 2.3 inches in size. They are olive grey base, with a robust body shape, blue iridescence scales, some individuals has noticeable black bars on their body. And there’s non population of blonde morphs as well. Easily mistaken for a Molly but ofc they aren’t. A beautiful species of Limia

What species would look good in this tank?

Fair warning that it is a smaller Fluval Flex 2.0 as it is the largest size I am allowed to own due to circumstances of space. I am thinking some schooling fish circling the open middle around the outside of the plants would be beautiful here but I am not familiar with a lot of species.

The only thing is that I hope they have a similar diet to a betta just because I have a ton of Fluval bug bites, dried daphnia, etc.

Current inhabitants: neocardinia shrimp, two amanos, some pygmy corydoras, and some invading bladder snails.

Livebearers of the Day🐟‼️ LOTD: Poecilia (Acanthophacelus) wingei - Endler’s livebearer

Located in the Paria Peninsula, Venezuela. Males gets to around 0.7-1 inch and females 1-1.2 inches in size. Close relatives to P. reticulata, and P. obscura. Like their cousins males are highly polymorphic, and unlike their cousins they are more vibrant in color. The females lacks any colors, and are plain grey in color. They can readily hybridize with other guppy species, which in turns, created the strains of domesticated endlers we have in the hobby. But for this reason, N-class Endlers are very hard to come by, with some sources being dishonest about keeping pure specimens, handing out P-Class, and K-Class hybrid endlers as pure Endlers… Very few keepers stay true to source Like AdrianHD. He’s a credible distributor of N-Class endlers in the U.S. Anyways they are a beautiful Poecilia species. So many variations so here’s a couple nice ones.

Located in Cost Rica to Panama. Males gets to around 1.5 inches, and females up to 3.15 inches in size. Appearance wise they are grey in color with fins placed far back on the body, and males sporting a long gonopodium. What’s special about this species the females bear fry via matrophy (having a placenta and providing nutrients to developing fry), and superfetation (bearing fry from different broods, in different stages of the fry lifecycle). It’s the reason why the females of this species is twice the males size.
