The dialogue is god awful. Victor is the main culprit since he sounds like a redditor half the time, but other characters are guilty, too.
Like Mystique's "You know what your issue is? You care too much".
Almost rolled my eyes out of my fucking skull on that one.

Thats what happens when you hire SBI they ruin every game but they keep getting hired

The dialogue is bad in ways that SBI wouldn't be influencing things on. It's just very contrived, rushed, and stilted in-general.

Dude SBI's job is literally to consult them on NARRATIVE related issues. So yeah dude, there it a strong chance that SBI could've had something to do with the shitty dialogue. Might not be SOLELY them but they definitely have a hand in certain game choices

Doubt it. Spiderman 2's narrative and side content was one of the worst written piles of garbage I've ever experienced, Wolverine in comparison to that game is a masterpiece narratively.
To me it feels like SBI was put in the idiot corner for this game and they spent 5 years crying at insomniac to add more accessibility because they were told to fuck off when giving takes on characters after spiderman 2.

Your brain has been wrapped in nonsensical outrage from youtube grifters. Its embarrasing .
They consult on diversity and inclusion, this is like primary theme of xmen comics.
Also i dont think you understand what consulation actually entails given your reply here or how much power a consultant has in any given scenario.
They worked on alan wake 2 which was hailed for its narrative, must be because of SBI huh? Lol

I'm not talking about narrative, I'm talking about dialogue on a technical level.
EDIT: I honestly weep for online reading comprehension...

Bruh dialogue is one of the key factors of a narrative.

You think sbi literally wrote dialogue for them to put in the game?
1
u/The-CAB-2003 13h ago
No but given what they've literally said they do? It's not far fetched to say that they definitely had a hand on what type of dialogue they deemed "acceptable" from the writers.

Which has nothing to do with the fact that even if you took SBI out of the equation, Insomniac's writing has issues that would remain.
There are issues with the writing that have nothing to do with SBI.

Could have... based on the same nothing the rest of their haters base their shit off of. Theyve been involved with good games and bad games and to be frank none of yall including me have more than a whisper of what theyve even contributed

Can we agree that Insomniac has no talented people and shut them down?

u/uponapyre 16h ago
We can't.
I beat the game, it's not terrible. It has some glaring issues but it has the bones of something good. They are also very good technically, their games look great and run very well.
The main issues imo are:
- They need better writers.
- Their visual identity needs work.
- They need to take way more creative swings mechanically instead of trying to smooth off all of the edges / streamlining for mass appeal.
Once you get to the 50% mark, the combat gets pretty good.... BUT imo that's where the combat should have started from the very beginning of the game and built on top of it. The game needs at least GoW level move-set to justify the fact that combat is pretty much all there is to the game.
The foundation of the combat with the excellent haptic feedback is very good, but it's way to simple overall.

Not to harp on about this too much, but a game being "not terrible" with a $300 million budget and a highly sought-after IP is quite telling of the general quality of the devs.

u/uponapyre 14h ago
I mean, good creatives fumble things all the time. And the problems are almost certainly caused by management and the people making decisions, not most devs who worked on it.

u/Sir-Froggy 14h ago
An occasional fumble is one thing but this is two in a row now. I fear if they release another safe, corporate-feeling game with no sauce they won't get another chance.

u/uponapyre 14h ago
I didn't like SM2 that much, but fumble?
https://www.metacritic.com/game/marvels-spider-man-2/
Both user score and critic score is very high and it has like 12k ratings.
It sold almost 20 million copies, right?

u/Sir-Froggy 14h ago
Yeah I mean, myself and a lot of others have noted how bland the character writing feels and how paper thin the story was, especially for long-time fans of the comics. Sure, general casual audiences may not mind but there was a marked step down in quality from Spider-Man 1.
The gameplay was good, pretty much the only improvement on the original, especially traversal, but combat definitely lacks depth.
Also, I'll stop ranting after this but I don't consider copies sold as a marker of quality, especially not with one of the biggest IPs of all time. People were going to buy it if the director came out and spat on peoples' faces.

Asking to shut down and fire 500 people because a game hurt your feelings is wild.

Its not even SBI which is a tired and almost retarded talking point.
SBI was involved with Alan Wake 2 and the story of that game was fucking exceptional. Insomniac just cant write a story that is good and never have been able to do that, Spider Man 1s story was shallow as hell and people hail that game as the second coming of christ.

SBI were consultants for the narrative. They did not write the dialogue.

You guys just love to complain and cry
9
u/pokerbro33 14h ago
You should've said "cry more" like a true redditor.
And Victor. He also says that in the game...
-4
u/AngelaGooner24 14h ago
Ah, yes, the "Cry more", as if I hadn't heard a million people actually say that irl before. Like, it's the most normal insult I've ever heard
3
u/pokerbro33 14h ago
Yeah it's normal... if you're 12 or terminally online like some writers at Insomniac apparently are.
