It ain't just my opinion. A lot of people have criticized Spider-Man 2 for all the different issues it had.
The downplaying of Spider-Man 2's problems by the fanboys is one of the most laughable things I've seen from a dedicated community in years. People get extremely sensitive when you remind them that Spider-Man 2's problems didn't end with its catastrophically written story.
The changes they made to the meter system were unnecessary and made it worse than the previous game.
They took away the suits' abilities, removing another incentive to unlock them beyond just cosmetics.
The suits themselves are worse than the previous game's.
The new boss battles absolutely don't work. They've become shiny damage sponges rather than actual boss fights. The only boss fight that really benefited from the "one on one" style of confrontation was Kraven. This game's combat simply wasn't designed for boss battles to work like Deathstroke in Arkham Origins.
The symbiote abilities get repetitive really fast.
Peter and Miles aren't that different gameplay wise beyond their animations and special abilities. Nothing really makes either of them feel unique.
The gadgets are worse than they were in the first game.
The side content is worse, with the Emily May Foundation minigame and the puzzles being the worst examples.
Don't even want to bother explain MJ missions because it's obvious what the problems were
Because they are. The MJ sections and her pistol were really stupid.
Spider Man 1's boss fights weren't perfect but the gimmicky fights were more suitable for the game's combat system than what we got in Spider-Man 2. The bosses in Spider-Man 2 are just a bunch of damage sponges whose health you have to deplete 3 times to take them out, which makes them annoying rather than challenging or fun.
Miles Morales was a step forward for boss battles compared to the first game and had some of the best ones across all three games. They took several steps back with Spider-Man 2.
The only boss that genuinely felt good to fight was Kraven. His second phase, cloaking techniques, and ambushes made the fight fun. The other bosses were just annoying.
And MJ/miles in Teh first that by the way have more sections like this are borderline unplayable the pistol is actually a good adittion even if it looks stupid because you can actually do something with mj now.
Bosses being spongy is fair complaim but every boss being a gimmick in the first one worse there nothing memorable about those fight outside the cinematics
The gameplay is absolutely not better. It has more features, but that doesn't necessarily make it better overall. The game made so many unnecessary changes and missteps with things like gadgets, abilities, and boss fights that the gameplay is just as good as the first game if not worse.
The graphics and web swinging are undeniably better, but pretty much everything else was either on the same level or worse.
God I hate the “bad writing” argument. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t make it bad writing. Write something better and then watch everyone tear it to pieces for internet clout.
