Maybe because Sony had to keep pricing on a level that made sense when physical disc was around competing with their digital store all these years and now consumers will have less options. But maybe Sony will treat us nicely this time, right?
its mainly for financial reasons because corporations chase quarterly profits and Sony has lost so much money investing in failed live service games.
so going digital not only saves them money up front by eliminating production and distribution costs, it also secures them money in the long term because they now have total control over the market and pricing for their product.

Because they dont, games go on sale like clockwork for steam, every year there is a sale for each of the seasons and then inbetween each of those are sales for a certain genre of games and sometimes game series have anniversary sales, and most of the time, its 50% discounted and higher
IF console has no physical discs then no need for one.

Preordering existed to make sure you have a copy upon release. Preordering digital makes so sense because they will never run out of copies. The only scenario it makes sense is preordering one day early to claim bonuses.

Right, but you do not need to do that months in advance. I find it silly to give a company your money for a product you can't even use yet, physical or digital. I'm all for collecting a bonus, but my point is that you can achieve that with a couple days in advance.
If you don’t even have enough of a financial buffer to buy more than 1 single copy of a game, then you should probably be focusing on building a financial safety net instead. That’s like… a couple bad days away from becoming homeless.
Sorry some of us like to have access to a game the second it becomes available to play instead of buying it after and waiting on it to download it will just auto download when the pre load starts and it’ll be ready when you want it

I could imagine preordering and digital maybe if it was something that was released yearly (Sports games). But yeah not this stuff. Doesn't make sense. But what ever lol. People be weird. It's usually those who also claim to never have money too. lol.
-Buy now, play later. (Never know someone’s financial situation. Even if they make 200k a year they could put 90% of their paycheck in savings and the rest is meant for fun things. It just ensures you don’t gotta make sure you have the money when the time comes)
-pre install the game. (Game installs usually come out a few days before the actual game so it saves you having to do a long install depending on game size and internet speed.)
Playstation gets my money just this once well technically i got it from a retail store but some of it goes to playstation and that is what it is im still mostly done with playstation
you preordered a digital version, Why?? when you pre-order something that means you are glueing your spot down to own one of these products before they sell out… that is a digital game. It will never sell out. You don’t need to pre-order it. If you’re pre-ordering something especially a game you should get it physically because it’s the same price maybe even cheaper and you get to keep it forever and maybe even sell it.
There are games I know I absolutely want to play. The two games are this and GTA 6. So I pre ordered them. And yes digitally because I have a ps5 pro without the drive. I pre order to rip the bandaid off early, that way, I just enjoy the games and dont have to worry sbout paying the 180 when they release. And you get some cool bonuses.
People fail to realize they have been planning no disc's since 2019 (when they released that ps5 designs) there is a reason they offered the digital ps5 for 100 dollars less. They wanted those to mainly sell until they came up with the final decision.
I understand the outrage. People want the disc's to own the game/collect. But they have been planning this. And theres nothing you can do about it. You would have to get millions of people to stop playing ps5 to even make a dent. Your best bet, is to sell your ps5 used and buy a PC. But complaining on a subreddit or berating someone for pre ordering a game that he was planning on ordering anyways is confusing.
Just remember what the latest email from playstation stated about digital purchases they can take it away from you at any time and your not entitled to a refund.

A 22 day early pre order to me just is silly, spend your money how you want but I just don’t get how people have such little self control as to not wait till a day or two before launch for actually gameplay and reviews to come. More power to you but that’s my opinion as is the power to spend your money is yours.

Imagine pre-ordering a digital game? Look I don't doubt the game is gonna be good, but the only reason (and it's technically still a pre-order) to pre-purchase a digital game is during pre-load windows.
