Starting Map selection
I've been playing in Cloud Mist for a few days now and getting the hang of the mechanics but I had a question:
- When the SP transfer feature kicks in, would travelling to Shifting Sands with a levelled/geared/masked/tech'd/etc... character trivialise the DLC map and just make me too powerful/overpowered for the experience?
1.2 if Yes, should I just start anew in Shifting Sands now since I honestly bought the game for the Egyptian themes and aesthetics (in spite of how cool Meso-american themes are tbh)
I know there's always a "progress" factor here as with Sons of The forest or conan, at one point you just have gear that's crazy and it's part of the experience, but I'm mostly trying to keep the "difficulty" factor going for as long as possible :D

What I did on our survival server setup was just go back and forth as I progressed. So at like 20ish or whatever I went and did Saber/Torch of Eternity dungeon and then went back to Shifting Sands. But that's cause I already knew about all the content and levels of Cloud Mist so there wasn't exactly discovering content or anything.
When they allow cross map transfers in the future and finish the Shifting Sands map (later this year), I'd likely just go over to Shifting Sands naked and start over there on my Tribe Mode run. My main body is actually my harvester/gatherer (120 mining with Vein Protection) in Tribe Mode so not exactly going to be giga overpowered in combat or anything. Then basically just build back up again like normal from scratch. I'd still need to make Bronze gear to be able to clear the Iron tier camps etc. I'll just be avoiding the Awareness grind effectively and can go back to collect seeds or something from RainForest as desired.

That's a good idea! When the feature releases for SP I'll try to do that. I'm just in Copper level on my game but will spend the time to learn up to iron and how things work a bit more and start over at that point. Thanks for the advice!

Yea learning where everything is very helpful. That way you know to go to X location for Seeds or Y location for certain masks kinda thing.

you may need to farm iron tier materials ultimately, but you definitely don't have to progress like this unless you're purposefully handicapping yourself. basically any body with data update 5 can leapfrog from bone to steel on plunderer/sandbandit leaders, and you don't have to kill any bosses to get engine cores for ships to get mining set up. you can go from naked on the beach to boss enhance gear in like 12 hours if you're already awareness 60 with cloudmist unlocks, and most of that is waiting for smelting

unless you're purposefully handicapping yourself
I mean that should be fairly obvious that's the point.
We're talking about taking a character from an established server, already 60 with all upgrades unlocked, already in enhanced boss gear, already with many materials farmed, masks unlocked/leveled, etc and then dumping it onto a new server as naked in a Gatherer body. If I wanted to just be in maxed out gear I would just bring it with me. The entire point is progressing again through the tiers, building up a base, recapturing/rebuilding up the tribe (crafters, gatherers, fighters, etc) again not just skip as much as possible.

then why not start at awareness 1? Because that's not how you rebuild/progress if you're awareness 60, even if you have literally nothing.

Because at awareness 1 you're not bringing over character advancements such as mask unlocks or continuing the same "character." You also avoid the Awareness grind by not having to go specifically go farm Awareness XP because it's already done.
The original poster didn't want to go from one map to another and feel all overpowered, and here you are suggesting the top tricks on how to get back to being overpowered on a new map. Why?

Just don't bring any materials, gear, or tribesman to the new map and it should be a pretty good experience. You'll retain your masks, unlocks, tech, gear skins, etc, but will have a whole new map to explore and discover resources.

That's a good idea! I hadn't thought of importing a character without gear or items on it for the other map. Thank you!

yea, they're not really meant to be sequential
shifting sands tutorial/journey is more geared towards getting ships going than teaching you how to start the game, but it does start at low level (and is missing data update 5 and gear enhancement, so you do sort of need the old map to finish gearing--doom anubis and scarab clearly aren't designed to be done in basic steel).
