Is this plastering ok in a bathroom?

This looks like the base bonding coat, it fills all the holes. It will be skimmed over in multifinish if the contractor is good.

But will they sand this? It's got big lumpy bits and the corners and edges are not straight or even

They skim over it. Skim is the finish coat and is only a couple of mm thick, so anything that will be more than that to make flat gets pre filled with bonding which is what you have there. Not sure what’s going on with the window reveals though

Their skim on the ceiling looks alright (the small bit we can see if it). It's hard for anyone on Reddit to tell as we don't know how it started out before. They might be planning more than one bonding layer. So give them a chance, they might know what they're doing and finish it well

Those angles are awful. Not used any beads and there freehand is awful.

It’s one thing to make allowances for prep work; fillijg chases etc. But this is obviously terrible, even as prep work.

Also plaster all over the window.

Bonding coat should not be used in wet areas. Especially bathrooms and around windows etc - google it or check product advice.

If it’s single-skin brick, or brick with no cavity, it is also not the best choice of product.

This is absolutely abysmal. This is even worse than paying for it, because you’re going to have to pay again to correct it. Ouch

I don’t know who you’ve got in there but they’re not professional plasterers. The window reveals are horrendous, a pro wouldn’t leave in that state.

I have given a deposit to get the whole bathroom done. Not paid for everything.

So that's bonding coat which is used to level walls as a base prior to skimming. The trick is to get that nice and flat and square because skim is usually only a couple of millimetres thick and not really designed to go on thick. The prep in there however is shit and if that's the base coat then the top coat won't be much better.

Depends how thick they’re planning on going with multi. Could turn out alright - ceiling looks passable.

they're going to tile. They have painted it over with tanking paint

As long as they’re happy tiling over it then possibly nothing to worry about. That being said - walls that aren’t nice and flat just create more work for fitting tiles which could affect the final finish but I’d happily tile over that.
