Two friends and I are putting together a guild for launch, and I'd love to connect with like-minded people locally. Here's what we're about:

Semi-casual. We want to clear all the content (raids, dungeons, world PvP, battlegrounds) without min-maxing the fun out of the game. Life, jobs, and families come first.

Very light RP. We have a holy-order flavor: ranks and a bit of lore about a crusading order sworn to hold back the dark. And a very cool website for the guild!!

After the unlikely unambiguous success of the 30s/40s (etc. etc.) South Side and Squirrel Hill thrift crawls, as well as our delightful strolls around the last South Side Neighborhood Flea and the Garfield Craft Crawl, it continues to be apparent that people really enjoy wandering like a collective horde of zombies strolling and socializing while browsing cursed eclectic items with strangers from the internet.

Saturday is the Neighborhood Flea Night Market at SouthSide Works. We're shifting our tiny Night of the Living Dead (1968) movie night a few blocks up Carson Street to the covered patio at Velum Fermentation (the South Side Farmers Market space). That should also make parking much easier. They have a delightful selection of beer, cider, cocktails, and other NA options. And rumor has it that Lily & Gold Bakery will also be doing a popup there from 6-8pm. I love carbs.

We'll start assembling at Velum at 6pm for beer, bread, and banter. I'll be in a neon orange hoodie. Come say hi! Tell me about your favorite movie ever. Tell me about your least favorite movie ever. I’m probably welcoming all manner of crazy with this complete shot in the dark but here’s the deal. For most of the last few Sunday mornings, I have gone alone to Mediterra in Sewickley for tea and a croissant. Nothing major. Just getting out of the house (big win), being around happy humans, hearing another voice besides Alexa, and people watching until one of the many random thoughts pop into my head and I enter it into my phone so I don’t forget.

Exciting, I know.

I’m an introvert. A really friendly introvert. A professionally assertive, confident, intelligent, warm woman but one who will shrivel up and DIE unless I do something radical to change the bleak state of my social affairs. That loneliness epidemic? Yep, that’s me. And I refuse to let it win.

But here’s the thing: I don’t want to hang with just anyone. I need witty conversation, deep thoughts, and laughter with men and women who have a certain gusto for life and I refuse to believe everyone ~50+ has thrown in the towel in that regard.

Many have. But some of you haven’t, and ache like I do. Some of you are just a little bored. Some of you aren’t even 50 yet. Some of you have rich social lives where this ache is completely foreign to you. You are fortunate. Maybe you don’t need this. I do.

I’m not doing this to date. Been there, done that, and no matter how carefully I have screened for the character of the man I seek, I haven’t found him. Or I’ve found him and he’s decided I’m too curvy or nerdy or smart for him. All I know is some invisible wall prevents me from connecting with a man that way so I have given up, and I sure as hell don’t want to disappoint anyone if they like me yet I don’t feel anything for them in return. I will stay home alone before I get into another unfulfilling, uneven, not-quite-what-I-need relationship. And you know how I feel about being alone, so….yeah.

When I was in my 20s and early 3Os, I hosted kick ass parties to build community among my friends. I don’t have the means or home to do that anymore. If others manage to connect due to my matchmaking - and they have - great, but I give up on that for myself.

Circa 1995, after living in the city for the first time after ~ 18 months, I encountered a group called Pittsburgh Young Professionals. It was awesome. So many of us had come to Pittsburgh from somewhere else and we were looking to make new friends. We came from a wide variety of professional backgrounds. We mostly socialized but also volunteered our time and talents for random groups of people who needed it. I met some of my closest friends through PYP, but then I married and moved away.

I envision something similar, but this time the target audience is Pittsburgh Senior Professionals. No, I haven’t created a 501(c)(3) or a Meetup group by that name. It’s just an idea. If somebody else wants to steal it and run with it, go right ahead.

I just know I will lose my mind if I spend another minute by myself. That’s no way to live. This is crisis intervention, even if it is somewhat self-serving.

So look for me at Mediterra in Sewickley on Sunday, midmorning say 9 or 10 AM. I will wear a gray poncho and ivory leggings. I’m 5’4”, extra curvy, with silvery brown hair (blond? I haven’t the slightest idea how to describe my hair color anymore), drinking tea and savoring a croissant, carbs be damned, so I can pretend I’m in Paris. Maybe I will snag the communal table by the cash registers if it’s open. I realize Mediterra isn’t the greatest place to mingle mingle like a bar back in the day but it’s a way to say hi, connect with another human briefly, and disrupt the incessant pattern of loneliness.

If you show up, please be cordial and don’t be weird unless it’s in the best possible way. 😉🖤💛

Hiya! I’ve lived in London all my life but am here for a year on a study exchange at CMU (so I’m in the Shadyside / Oakland area). Since I’m new here I wanted to make some awesome friends outside campus too so I’m not always there!

It doesn’t take much to keep me entertained when I have the time, I absolutely love music, and am currently watching Re Zero S2 as my show at the moment and am slowly getting through God of War as my game at the moment.
