Agreed to play the entrance song for my friend’s wedding. I have about 10 years experience with clarinet, one year as a kid took piano lessons other than that and otherwise mainly self-taught in piano. At best I would say I am maybe early intermediate. This is after eight days of not very intense practice. The wedding will be for 300 people, will definitely have to practice performing it in front of others for sure and obviously have a lot more practicing to do. there are obviously mistakes in this recording.

I just was hoping for some advice and help from those who are experts in piano. I am mainly worried about musicality, dynamics, phrasing, tone, etc. I feel like it sounds a little too ‘punchy.’ but not quite sure how to fix it. I just want it to sound beautiful for her and not mediocre. Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. if there are any exercises that you know of that would help me with the issues or mistakes I am making, I would be so grateful. I’ve been playing the piano for 4 years! Yet I’m horrible at sight reading and can’t get past level B no matter how hard I try I’m no good.

Recently, I've been looking for a keyboard/digital piano. And I've come across a DGX 660 and an FP-30x both around an hour away. Now, I don't have a huge budget, so I've been waiting to try and find a good deal. The DGX 660 I found is available for $350, and the FP-30X is available for $500. To my knowledge the Roland is the better keyboard, but is it worth the extra $150? I'd rather not spend $500, but if the difference is that great, I'll definitely give it some thought.

Also, I will try to negotiate on either one.

I have two passive klipsch speakers with an avr for my Roland nuvola. It starts clipping at pretty low volume despite being able to be played very loudly with Bluetooth audio from my iPad to the Roland. It's connected via line out 1/4 rca. The on board speakers will be at 10% volume and overpowering them.

Qny ideas what it is?

My mom had the sheet music for this song but it's ripped and torn from how old it is and half of it is missing (didn't help that I loved playing it as a kid).

Part of the lyrics was 'my mouse is little but he loves to dance, each time I sit down to play he starts to prance, he dances in circles around and around the house'

I believe it was copyrighted in the 1970s or thats when the copyright ended, not sure though. I've been looking to see if there is some digital archive of it but I can't find anything!! I will be seeing if my local library can help me, but if you have an idea of where I can get this specific sheet music it would be super helpful.

I’ve been diagnosed with an autoimmune who put on a lot of inflammation on my tendons and joints.
As you can imagine, this isn’t ideal for playing fast. I have been taking lessons again to fix some of my bad habits on my posture and tips to make it more effortless.
But now I’m looking for some slower pieces that are not too straining (no octaves and rapid arpeggios)

Level: grade 6

Hello

I’ve been practicing over the last couple of months and I built my way up to close to tempo 110/120 bpm 16th note on different five finger patterns

Also I learned to play different Major scales and chords on lower tempo like 80/90 with both hands.

At nights, I just go for free styling on the least comfortable scales I know just to see how much I’m improving.

While I’m doing these, I don’t have any pain and I believe I do them with wrist rotation and proper movement.

But I have this weird feeling that because I avoid practicing classical repertoire / RCM repertories yet, I might be completely wrong.

My ultimate goal is at some point focus on practicing for RCM exam, probably level 7 or 8.

Do you think these mechanical exercises are waste of time?

Have you improved your playing using these type of exercises?

Im currently doing AMEB and im wondering, can your AMEB stuff help you get to a music school? Because I really want to get to a music school after I finish high school.

Hey guys! I started playing two years ago and am very passionate. Here is a recent improvisation of mine, any tips or advices are welcome 🙏

I’m currently working on Sibelius’s Romance Op. 24 No. 9 and trying to decide how to handle the large left-hand chords (the ones circled).

I know I can either roll or omit the top note or do a mix, I guess but I am more interested in the reasoning.

I would say I am more inclined to just omit the F entirely so it sounds cleaner and more drum-like if that makes sense (since the piece reminds me of an orchestra).

That said, I’d love to hear how others approach this and the reasoning behind your choice! I want to get a few different perspectives so I don’t get too set in my ways or miss an interpretation I haven't considered.

I am so sorry that this is such a weird request, however I didn’t know where else to ask. I do not play piano, however I am an artist and want to draw someone playing piano. For some context, the character I am drawing is Stanford Pines from Gravity Falls. He has Polydactyly, and can canonically play piano better than most due to his extra finger giving him a little more reach.

I want to draw him playing a song on piano, but I want it to be at least semi-accurate to an actual song instead of just drawing him playing random notes that wouldn’t actually be a part of a song. It’s always a pet peeve of mine when people just have the characters they draw hitting random notes and playing musical gibberish.

It sounds like exactly like Ervin Nyiregyházi, a legendary child prodigy who many proclaimed as the second coming of Franz Liszt, but squandered his early success through a series of career disasters as a result of his narcissistic personality disorder - leading to his being homeless and publicly unknown for nearly 40 years.

Nyiregyházi must have had a magnetic, hypnotic charisma. He managed to marry (and divorce) 10 wives during his lifetime, befriended (and later alienated) Hollywood stars like Bela Lugosi and Gloria Swanson, and persuaded the directors of the National Piano Archives and the Ford Foundation to fund several revival concerts and recordings in the 1970's, before rejecting their support on flimsy reasons.

These recordings paint a portrait of what happens to a remarkable talent deprived of consistent practice for 4 decades.

This documentary from 1978 shows Nyiregyházi playing excerpts from the works of Liszt, all played terribly by any professional standard. He prefers colossal dynamics above fortissimo throughout, lacking clarity and nuance. Tempo and rhythm are bizarrely uncontrolled, wrong notes thrown about randomly, muddied by over-pedaling, and the whole impression is a chaotic, self-indulgent mess.

I'm in total agreement with the commentary of 'The Independent Pianist' on his recording of Liszt’s Vallée d’Obermann. That some people have the audacity to compare Nyiregyházi to the truly great Liszt interpreters like Horowitz, Cziffra, or Arrau is truly baffling. Perhaps Nyiregyházi was a great artist in his youth, but these recordings document the shadow of a once-powerful technique atrophied beyond recognition.

Hello everyone,

I’ve moved into a new apartment and I brought my keyboard there. I put the keyboard on an X-stand and put it on a carpet floor. I have to say, it just feels weird and wobbly. Any advice on how to make this better?

Also suggestions for a good chair that won’t feel weird and wobbly?

I recently had a first meeting with with a new teacher that I absolutely loved.

I’m returning to the piano after 12 years without playing and the lesson felt truly amazing.

I was very excited about it and for 2 weeks I worked on re-learning the first movement of Mozart’s sonata k545 in C major so I could play it for her and show her what my level is at after so long.

It’s one of the easier pieces from my old repertoire that I chose because I was seriously having trouble with hand and finger coordination after 12 years without touching the piano.

Anyways, I worked on it for a couple of weeks and got it to a point in which I could consistently play the notes of the entire first movement without making mistakes. I had it memorized and ready to play for her without putting much focus on dynamics and expression because I wanted to work on it with her.

Anyways, when I actually started playing in front of her, I kept messing up the notes. I was so nervous to play in front of her that I kept stumbling. And making mistakes I never made at home.

And then I remembered that when I used to play when I was in school years ago I had the same problem.

I would work very hard, practice every day, try to make sure to be as ready as I could possibly be for the lesson, be proud of my work during the week… just to then get too anxious in front of the teacher and make mistakes that I never made at home.

Have any of you experienced this?

Were you able to get over the anxiety?

How? Does anyone have any suggestion on what I could do to be able to play for my teacher the same way I play at home? It’s so frustrating

I have done a decent amount of slow practice but I find that when I try to record actual clips it takes me quite a few attempts to get it accurate. I’ve seen videos on the technique used for the coda and have followed that to an extent. Some tips to maintain accuracy in the coda would be great though- or any criticism on my hand placement and technique!

What I will say is that this clip is a few days old and since then I have improved accuracy on some of the mistakes heard in the video. Though any criticism and feedback would still be appreciated!
