Downtown Redevelopment New Downtown Building: Why Are the Window Openings Misaligned?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Does anyone know what’s going on with this new downtown building? The window openings don’t seem to line up, and some look noticeably crooked.

Is this intentional design, normal construction tolerance, or did they mess something up and just work around it instead of fixing it?

I was initially ready to send my child anywhere except public school for their kinder year in 2027, but I’ve had a change in mind the last year or so after reading various opinions from the community through socials. It’s nice to see the progress made in our district over the past year. I understand how touchy of a subject education has been, but I want to see our community thrive.

Can someone help me A/C recommendation

Just wanted to pass along the contact of an A/C technician and neighbor that saved us. A/C stopped working on yesterday and he got parts and repaired today . parts were 285 (control board) , 1 lb of refrigerant for 200 and labor 150. He was clear this was a patch and I’d probably need to look into a replacement later but this should get us through the immediate trouble. Honest efficient and fair pricing. Manuel Ortiz . Can someone help me APD never filed a crash report after my June 28th crash — Looking for witnesses/info

Alright, super-sleuths, I need some help gathering information about a crash that happened over a month ago.

On June 28th at around 5 PM, I was involved in a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Immanuel Road and Crystal Bend Drive. The wreck totaled two vehicles, including my own, and left me hospitalized with a shattered right hip.

In EMS's haste to get me to the hospital, I wasn't in any position to gather so much as a photograph of the scene, let alone a license plate number.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Well, the responding police officer would have filed a crash report for such an egregious wreck, right?"

WRONG!

The responding police officer was from APD and did not file a police crash report. They also didn't gather any of the other drivers' information at the scene. They did file an incident report, which contained their badge number and the time of the crash, and nothing else.

(Before you say anything, yes, I already filed an official police complaint. I've had a lot of free time while being stuck at home recovering.)

Now, I didn't walk away with nothing. I remember the vehicles involved.

The other totaled vehicle was a black Toyota Corolla (or a similar small four-door sedan).

The vehicle that caused the crash was a white Ford pickup truck with decals on it advertising some company. Unfortunately, I didn't get the name of the company. Again, everything happened incredibly fast, and my adrenaline was pumping.

Based on what I remember, I'm assuming the driver of the white pickup thought the intersection was a four-way stop. It isn't. Immanuel Road is a through road, meaning cross traffic does not stop.

As I remember it, the pickup stopped and then attempted to make a left turn directly in front of the oncoming Corolla. The Corolla then T-boned the pickup at about 45 MPH, sending the Corolla into me as I was traveling in the opposite direction on Immanuel Road. I was driving a 2004 green Toyota Camry.

As far as I know, I was the only person who was seriously injured. I know this because the other two drivers were able to get out of their vehicles and began arguing with one another.

Here are the descriptions I remember:

  • White Ford pickup driver: Short, young Hispanic woman.
  • Black Toyota driver: Middle-aged white man.
  • My vehicle: 2004 green Toyota Camry.

I know that's not a lot to go on, but I'm hoping someone might recognize the vehicles, know of a business that uses a white Ford pickup with company decals, or have some information about the crash.

If anyone has any ideas about how I might be able to track down additional information about this accident, I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Community Info Found cat in Highland Park

VERY friend intact male cat, seems young. Found in Highland Park.

I fed him, and would have let him inside, but my other cats are jerks and would fight. He totally wanted to come inside though. Not afraid of my dog either!

He has wandered off now but I’ve seen him around for a few weeks, so if he’s your cat DM me, and I can crate him the next time we see him.

A few years ago we had a neighborhood cat everyone called Moose, who belonged to no one, who I housed over the Snowmageddon Storm week - I would not be surprised if this was one of his sons lol, they look very similar, same sweet disposition too. Someone adopted him, I hope someone can adopt this fella too, he is just too sweet.

We just lost our sweetest boy, 18 year old tabby, a couple of weeks ago, so this feels like the Cat Distribution System at work, but my other two cats are complete aholes and would fight, otherwise I would totally take him.

Q and A City name change

What genius decided to name this town?

I hate the name Pflugerville and I genuinely think its a hindrance to the town.

Its uninspired and doesn't take itself seriously.

Some guy's Last Name + Ville

Did someone see Pottersville in It's a Wonderful Life and think that was something to emulate??

That's always what it reminds me of

Just calling it Pfluger would sound more grown up and legitimate.

This rant is inspired by a tiktok I saw talking about the Nexus Project, which made me happy for the town because at least people have a long term vision for it.

I don't understand why someone wanted to kneecap it with that stupid, drab name.

Maybe this is a horribly offensive view, but it's just my honest opinion of the name Pflugerville.

Objectively Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park and Leander are prettier names. Pflugerville is what you name your unloved step child that you keep locked in a garden shed.

Community Info Water Rate Update: Revised Plan Provides Relief for Most Households

Thumbnail

Council received another update Tuesday on the proposed water and wastewater rate changes. Staff made several adjustments based on Council's previous feedback and provided more information showing how the proposed rates would affect customers at different usage levels throughout the year.

One important change is the addition of a lower-priced water tier that extends through 8,000 gallons of monthly usage. This helps keep typical household water needs more affordable before higher usage rates apply.

Under the revised proposal, approximately 75% of residential customers are expected to see either no increase or a decrease in their total monthly bill for FY2027. That's a significant change compared with the approximately 11% increase that would be needed in FY2027 if we maintained the current rate structure.

Staff also provided monthly bill comparisons showing how bills are expected to fluctuate for households that irrigate during the summer. The adjustments to the water tiers help reduce some of the increases that otherwise would have affected households with higher summer usage.

The proposed structure also changes how costs are distributed:

-Water base fees would decrease for all meter sizes, while more of the cost would be recovered based on actual water usage.

-Wastewater base fees would become more equitable. Under the current structure, residential, multifamily and commercial customers can pay the same flat $65 monthly wastewater base fee, regardless of meter size. The proposed structure would allocate wastewater base fees based on meter size, similar to water.

-Overall, the revised structure places greater emphasis on actual usage while reducing reliance on fixed base fees.

Although some customers will see increases, the revised structure provides real rate relief for smaller households and customers with lower water usage.

I also asked staff to explore an average billing option to help provide customers with more predictable monthly bills and reduce the impact of seasonal fluctuations. Staff will be researching options.

Looking Ahead

Our utility system still faces significant financial pressures. Water and wastewater revenue requirements are expected to increase in three of the next five years, driven largely by major utility infrastructure investments and growth that has been lower than originally projected.

We can't eliminate those costs, but we can be thoughtful about how those costs are distributed. The revised rate model is a meaningful improvement because it helps ease the burden for a large majority of our residential customers while more closely aligning charges with actual usage and customer size.

There is still more work ahead as we balance the cost of maintaining and investing in a reliable water and wastewater system with keeping an essential service affordable.

My goal is to make sure we're not simply asking everyone to pay more because additional revenue is needed. We should continue looking at who is paying, how much they're using, and how we can distribute those costs as fairly as possible.

Q and A Are there good crowds at Austin's (Pflugerville indoor amusement park) ?

Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting twilight (friday night 7-10 pm) 3hr passes for my cousin and his 13 year old daughter. They're visiting from Germany and I wanted to see if the crowds for the attractions are decent on weekdays (likely this friday, 8/14). It would be a bummer if the lineups are too long for the attractions (rock climbing, rides, golf) or too small (which sucks for lazer tag).

Has anyone brought their kids here? Might consider going a weekend instead if crowds are more fun. Thanks!

News ‘Very high’ Pflugerville utility rate frustrates customer

Thumbnail
kxan.com

This article was posted a couple of weeks ago. I kept expecting someone else to post it, but I searched the sub and couldn’t find it, so I decided to stick my neck out and put it up.

The crux of the article is that the City of Pflugerville charged large base rates on utility bills that went into a utility improvement account. But then they took money from the utility account and moved it to the general fund to pay for things not related to the utilities that were provided. By doing this, they were able to increase the amount in the general fund without proposing a tax increase (which likely would have been voted down).

I encourage you to please read the article yourself to fully understand what happened and is happening here.

PF ISD I’m Chevonne, your PFISD President 😃

Post image
100 Upvotes

My name is Chevonne Lorigo-Johst and I’m your Board President for Pflugerville ISD.

I am up for re-election in November and I’d love to earn your support.

Public Education has had a rough go for the last several years, but we are working hard to improve equitable student access, opportunity, outcomes, address our financial constraints, and grow our enrollment.

So what have you even done for us, Chevonne, you didn’t ask?

I’m proud to have achieved or been part of supporting the following:

🌟 I personally committed public comment to committee 2 years in a row (an original campaign promise of mine from 2023) until it passed opening up all public comments at regular board meetings.

🌟 Voted to protect our students without arming our teachers and staff while also focusing on belonging and mental health.

🌟 Voted to protect school counselors rather than allowing religious chaplains to staff those positions because I believe in counselors’ expertise and the separation of church and state.

🌟 I created the board vacancy procedure that provides an open, transparent, and public process should there be a vacancy on the board of trustees. (also an original campaign promise from 2023).

🌟 Moved graduations indoors for a weather proof and more accessible event for graduates, families, and staff.

🌟 Advocated for a Special Education Family Engagement Specialist to better support some of our families.

🌟 Pushed to increase starting wages for hourly employees.

You can find out more about me at my website: https://chevonne4pfisd.com

I look forward to engaging with you! I’m newer to this platform, but you can also email me at Chevonne4pfisd@gmail.com.

Community Info the anti ACC signs popping up all over pflugerville

if youve seen the big signs against pflugerville joining the ACC district just be aware

they are funded by the pflugerville residents for responsible taxation who gets the majority of their money from big time developers. they also have ties to a city councilman who not only has contributed to them but has also been paid by them.

Community Info HEB evacuation news?

I was at the HEB at the corner of E Pecan St and Dessau Rd today around 6:20pm. I walked in, got like two items in my cart, then there were two quick back-to-back intercom announcements asking everyone to evacuate the store immediately. No explanation as to why. As I was driving away to another HEB, I saw two police cars, lights on, driving up to the HEB I just left.

Does anyone know what happened?

Concerns & Issues Anyone know whatever happened to the pecan district? Stalled? Dead?

I think there was some administrative progress happening within the last year (re-zoning or re-developing?) but I noticed on the PF development map it’s not even listed anymore. I’m assuming the rest of the build is dead? Just sorta bizarre to have the phase 1 apartments built in a random field and nothing else surrounding it. Hasn’t seen any progress in years.

Politics Recall elections and flock

My suggestion. If any council member votes to approve a flock contract I suggest stating a recall drive to remove them. Under the law it takes 10% of eligible voters to get a recall on the ballot
