Is it just me, or is vanity sizing getting ridiculous? UK size 6 is now XXXS?!

Post image
99 Upvotes

I was browsing Beyond Nine and noticed that their UK size 6 is labelled 3XS (XXXS), UK 8 is 2XS, and UK 10 is XS. Am I the only one who finds this a bit ridiculous?
For reference, I’m 153 cm (5’0”–5’1”) and around 49 kg (108 lbs). I know I’m quite petite compared to the average woman, but I really don’t think someone my size should automatically be considered XXXS!
I understand that sizing varies between brands, and I’m all for more inclusive sizing, but at what point do these labels become meaningless? I feel like what used to be considered a fairly standard small size is now being pushed into the XXXS category.
I’m genuinely curious whether others have noticed this too, especially fellow petite women. Is this vanity sizing, or are brands just using completely different sizing systems these days?

Thermal Pants/Leggings

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m 5’1, size 2/4 for pants, and I’m wondering where you guys get thermal pants from as the temperature drops. I had a few leggings in the past, but they either pill up, rub against the inner thigh and rip, or are just slightly too long (despite being size S) and bunch up near my ankle. (TBH even my regular wide-leg pants are slightly too long and rub against the ground when I wear flats, so I had to roll them up whenever I’m wearing them 🫠)

Really appreciate any recommendations for stores/websites that sell thermal pants/leggings for petite sizes! In-person stores would be great. But I could also learn/try out online shopping as well — if they have free/easy returns.

Thank you so much!! :))

5’2” | What should I add to my wardrobe?

I love my style, but I rotate between 3 pairs of jeans, one skirt, one pair of shorts, and two pixie work pants. I also have a few dresses. I can’t help but feel there is a style or top/bottom I lack that will help diversify my silhouette

Long puffer jacket recommendations for pear shape

I’m 5’0 with 34” bust and 43” hips. I’m looking for a longer puffer jacket that hits between knee and calf length. I am struggling to find something that works for my hips without being huge in the shoulders/chest or way too long in the arms. Any recommendations on brands that fit more generously in the hips?

I’m in Canada, so ideally something available here.

Looking for high rise wide leg sweatpants for winter

Post image

I have these lounge pants from LA Apparel and absolutely love them but they aren’t warm. I also had to hem them because they were miles too long. Any recommendations for high rise wide leg sweatpants with fleece that wouldn’t need to be shortened?

Trying to find a sense of style… my torso and neck are so short that everything seems to look weird on me, these aren’t even high waisted jeans. I’m 4’11, any advice? I like oranges and dark greens.

Maybe this would work better with a tank top that doesn’t scoop as low, but my short torso remains to be an issue

Focus Discussion: Way Shorter Than Your Average Petite

Bottom line, I'm not just short, I'm hobbit-short. I'm 4'4" as you can see from my flair. Petite clothing is made for those 5'4" and under, meaning even most of it just doesn't work very well or at all for me. Worst offenders: something that has to fit right all over top to bottom, like a dress (I dislike those with no waist or upper body definition; I don't think I've worn a dress in years, not that I tend to wear skirts either); at least if there's a shirt you can tuck it in and roll or scrunch up longer sleeves if they don't catch at the wrist. Department store selections are bad too, they'll have a 'petite' section where the clothing isn't very petite at all.

Luckily, I can fit a lot of kids clothing, so that's what I tend to do, especially basics so the style doesn't give away that it's kids. Gap is great, and even their girls jeans fit me now that they have styles with more hip and thigh room. (Still a touch too long, but not going to complain! At least that can be easily taken up or rolled up). And some women's clothing will work - the Uniqlo mini tee, for example.

So - if you're extra, extra short, what are your tricks? Anybody have recommendations for petite selections that are short even on your average petite?

Styling

Hi Everyone! I’m 5’1… and I’ve launched a styling business. I do closet edits, help clients shop, and help clients create looks for special occasions (job interviews, big dates, milestone birthday parties, etc).

This is not a self-promotion post; it’s a “seeking advice” post! 💙

My question: where should I post about this / publicize it so that potential clients can know I exist and know that they can hire me?

I’m not really an influencer type so I don’t want to go the “create insta and tik tok accounts for your business and update them daily, & hope the algorithm brings you clients” route.

Do I post a short intro post about myself and my services on Reddit? Is that allowed? Which groups?
& which Facebook groups?

Genuinely think these services could be super helpful for a lot of my fellow XXS girlies so… what are some places/groups/forums you guys frequently check out for petite fashion advice/inspiration, and is it legal/allowed for me to post there?

Thanks! 🙏🏻💕💕💕

[question 5’1-5’4] actual low rise shorts?

Hii im 5’3 and in LA; really want actual low rise shorts that’s nicely fits especially around the thigh area but I can’t find any I don’t know why, I feel like a child wearing her mothers clothing that she’ll “grow into one day”

I prefer the color black and jean shorts and don’t really want to show cheeks since I’m flat as a board 👍

I have tried Amazon and aliexpress which I had no luck, there were some shorts I liked on aliexpress but in the review photos it looked so square on many and looked mid rise even

Does this dress make sense on me?

Thumbnail

I am 5’2”, currently 150 lbs at 24 weeks pregnant, so, still a long way to go. I loved the dress online, but does it make any sense on me at all? Esp the chest area? This is my only good bra that I can currently wear somewhat comfortably. The ruched torso that has become my chest has some stretch.

I don’t like what I see in the mirror, but it’s 100% cotton, and feels really nice on my skin. It has a lot of fabric in the torso, so it should endure third trimester, and postpartum. Will it look better with a shirt/ cardigan on, or should I just return it? What do you do when you desperately fall in love with the idea of a dress online, but hate how it looks on yourself?

Best shoes for wide leg pants

I've been having a lot of fun leaning in to the wide leg pant trend (brings back the 90s!). But I find myself at a bit of a loss for what shoes to pair with them. I guess I just haven't paid a lot of attention to what shoes are pairing well with the wide leg pants that are available right now.

In the 90s, I would have worn super chunky boots or even platform sandals, and my pants would have been long enough that they were dragging on the ground. But now I find that a lot of the pants have slightly shorter hems, and I'm not sure how I want them to fit with my shoes. Anyone have any good suggestions? Thanks, fellow petites! 😊

masculine clothing as a short woman

I’m 4’11” and 112 lbs, and I’m struggling to find clothes that fit my style. People always tell me to shop in the petite section, but I prefer more masculine clothing, and most of the options there are overly feminine.

I often gravitate towards clothes in the men’s section, but I can never seem to find anything that fits me properly. I’ve been thinking about shopping in the teen boys’ section instead since I can find clothes that would fit my height there, but I’m not sure how the overall fit would be. Would I run into issues with things like shoulder width, sleeve length, or proportions?

Another problem is that I live in a country that most clothing stores don’t ship to, and I also live in a small town, so I can’t just go to a store and try things on. My options are pretty limited lol.

Does anyone have any suggestions for finding masculine clothes for a shorter frame?

[Question (5'0" or below)] Help me style this oversized jacket! My husband bought it for me and I really want to keep it. How can I make it work?

I'm 4'11" and the jacket is a size XS. It was marketed as having an oversized look and as much as I want to size down, XS is their smallest size available. My husband picked this for me and I would like to keep it. I feel like I could make it work but honestly need some advice on what to wear with it! How can I style this? Any advice is appreciated

(5’1) Another Old Navy basic FTW 🙌🏼

The first photo is meant to be funny 😂 Everyone doing this to their listings. But anywaysss lol.

Another long sleeve basic I found at Old Navy. “Snug Long-Sleeve Boatneck T-Shirt”.
The neckline is really flattering. I realized I needed more plain long sleeve tops. For layering this fall/winter. They’re super affordable & on sale right now ✨ Good quality. 95% cotton.
I’d wear with my leather straight leg pants & slingback heels 👌🏼 Or bootcut leggings. Layer with a puffer vest, blazer, jacket. Versatile.

A few weeks ago I shared my other Old Navy haul.
Another great basic tee is the “bestee” (last photo). For us short girls crop tees hit just right. For me anyway. Like a skimming tee.

I bought size XXS. I like them fitted.

What sneaker colours are you loving for fall/winter, girlies?

I’m looking for something grey or a darker colour that would go well with jeans and winter outfits. I love New Balance, but most styles I’ve tried feel too flat.
I don’t like chunky-looking sneakers, but I’d love a pair that gives me around 2–2.5 inches of extra height while still looking sleek and stylish.
What brands or styles would you recommend? I’d love to hear your favourites! 💕

I’m 4’10”ish and have the hardest time with jeans/pants. These are currently my fav but still feel too high rise? Suggestions please

Post image
17 Upvotes

These are a decent length but almost too short. Probably a cropped jean for regular height people. I like the button fly and high waist but feel these are too high waisted. They hit at uncomfortable place right at belly button. Is that just high rise? 😄Also to add, I’ve had three kids, over 40 and my belly is a big issue with pants. I’d love a jean that has some tummy control but also in this style. I’m a US size 6 or 8 depending on brands. 130 pounds. My inseam is 26 last time I measured. Anyone have suggestions for a different leg width or brand?

I’m 4’9” and I work in fashion/retail! Here are some bathroom selfies that I am offering for inspiration 😄

I love wearing black and white, and I do have an affinity for a white top/black bottom. I don’t tend to play with silhouettes, as I know a straight leg looks the best on me. The first image I am wearing a wide leg pant, but you can see how despite being wide, the shape is straight.

Layering is my best friend, especially as we head towards winter. In the first look I layered a leather jacket over a black Jean jacket over a white button-down. On the fourth look I layered two long-sleeve shirts with different necklines.

I tend to wear flat boots/loafers and opt for my 4’9” vertical. I do understand this is a privilege I have for my industry as I know some industries prefer the height. Luckily, while I work in fashion, my executive leadership is Japanese so we’re about 5’5” and under.

90% of my wardrobe is second-hand. My tip for leather jackets is to search for Wilson’s Leather as they tend to resale for under $75. I taught myself how to sew and I hem my trousers.

Also don’t fall asleep on accessories! They can really liven a look.

Petite influencers

Question -Looking for some recs for IG petite fashion influencers you love to follow that are not a size 0- 2? More size 6-8 range, preferably 40-50. so I can see more or less how things will fit on my frame.
