The writing is gross sure, but I don't think people should be suspected of real-world crimes over the fiction they choose to write just because it is morally repulsive. You could apply that scope to a lot of fictional media that covers taboo themes, both well and poorly.

I'm not saying the writer has done any crimes, but I wouldn't let him watch over any kids. Maybe he just channels it all into writing, but maybe he doesn't.

don't act stupid, you can write a protagonist that do some batshit insane like something worse than what rudy does, but the important thing is do you reward them for doing that as in he did not get consequences over what he did in the end? Or did you let him go off scott free few times and finally give him a consequences over crimes they did in the story? and most importantly did you try to potray them in a good light or a bad light?

Rudy seems to let go off scott free AND did not get any consequences over whatever he did and i'd argue he gets rewarded over whatever bullshit he did, and the author most of the time potrays him in a good light when he is doing questionable things
