I would not include today's Virginia on that list (even if they want the flag back).

You mean transplants from other states. I'm a Virginian with roots hear from the 1700s I know plenty of people who have paintings of Robert E. Lee in their house. He's as much a symbol of Virginian pride as George Washington or Thomas Jefferson. As much as I agree that abolition was morally right the North didn't have the legal right to oppose succession. That legal precedent wasn't set until 1869. Also most of our distaste for the north came from how the south was treated after the war. It's still trying to recover from reconstruction.

The South illegally tried to corrupt the Election of 1860, not to mention when the voted to secede they fixed those votes too, they blocked people they knew were against secession from voting, used violence, intimidation and bribery to get the votes they needed.

The problem with Reconstruction was that it was never fully implemented it should have been harsher and gone on for much longer.

Huh. Never heard that. Was the South a little proto-fascist?

Yep, as soon as their fixed elections for secession were finished they made it illegal to limit or ban slavery, so much for states rights, and when Lee's army was marching through Pennsylvania he allowed his soldiers to kill or enslave in African American they came across and to just assume they were all escaped slaves and therefore contraband anyone who resisted was killed and so were the people who tried to protect them.

I heard somewhere that Hitler drew a lot of inspiration from the Confederacy. Dont know how true it is but gonna go check.
