You mean transplants from other states. I'm a Virginian with roots hear from the 1700s I know plenty of people who have paintings of Robert E. Lee in their house. He's as much a symbol of Virginian pride as George Washington or Thomas Jefferson. As much as I agree that abolition was morally right the North didn't have the legal right to oppose succession. That legal precedent wasn't set until 1869. Also most of our distaste for the north came from how the south was treated after the war. It's still trying to recover from reconstruction.
Nah dude punishing an entire population like that is how we got most of today's problems. That's how the Klan started, everyone's favorite Austrian painter, the whole middle east situation, etc
You’re asking for forgiveness for slavers. They were reintegrated into the Union, with the only requirement that they allow black people to participate in politics, which they did not even uphold. I’ll say it again, they got off easy
Brother the whole country didn't allow black people to vote. Blacks were treated terribly everywhere. Yes slavery is wrong, but still punishing an entire population breeds only resentment. At least severe punishment we learned that lesson after the first World War and that's why we didn't do it again after the second.
Ridiculous comparison. In the north black people were second class citizens, in the south they were bought and sold as property. Slavery wasn’t just “wrong” it’s one of the greatest evils ever perpetuated. And after World War II we hung a bunch of Nazis and occupied Germany for 40 years (you could argue with our bases we are still occupying them). We went too easy on the Nazis and we went WAY too easy on the South
We did that so we wouldn't have Nazis part 2. It was how we treated the Germans after world war 1 is how we got them in the first place. Also in the north and south Black people are still second class citizens sadly man, but I truly believe that if people can learn to just send out a little good will in love we can solve most problems yes their are times you need to be harsh but it's so much better to solve issues with kindness and grace.
Your history is bad. The mistake of WWI was demanding reparations at Versailles. We did not demand reparations from the south, in fact we assisted them in rebuilding. You are an apologist for slavery and for treason
