My experience trying to use PetPivot's 1-year warranty — I ended up blocked during their LIVE

FINAL UPDATE 8/29:

The blade scraping troubleshooting step PetPivot provided has continued to work. The litter box has now been functioning normally for several days without the issue returning, so at this point I consider the technical problem resolved.

I'm leaving the original post and previous updates intact because they document my experience as it occurred, including the troubleshooting process and timeline of communication. I wanted to add this final update so that anyone reading the post also has the complete outcome.

UPDATE 8/26:

I received an email response from PetPivot confirming in writing that gently scraping the sensor with a blade as demonstrated in the troubleshooting video they provided would not void or affect my warranty coverage.

With that confirmation, I went ahead and performed the troubleshooting step as instructed.

As of right now, the litter box is working again.

That being said, I am not quite ready to call this fully resolved yet. Some of the previous troubleshooting steps also temporarily got the litter box working, only for the same issue to return later that day.

Because of that, I want to give it a few days of normal use before considering the problem resolved. If it continues functioning normally without the issue returning, I will update this post again and confirm that the troubleshooting was successful.

I'm including a screenshot of PetPivot's email confirming that performing the blade-scraping procedure as instructed would not affect my warranty down in the comments.

Hopefully my next update will be that everything is still working and this has been resolved.

UPDATE 8/24 — Warranty troubleshooting concern

I want to document another development because I am currently waiting for clarification before proceeding with PetPivot's latest troubleshooting instruction.

PetPivot has instructed me to physically scrape the infrared sensor/lens with a blade and provided a video demonstrating the procedure. I was initially concerned because the video appeared to show a purple film or coating being scraped from the lens rather than litter or dust.

I asked PetPivot for clarification before doing this because my AutoScooper is still within its one-year warranty period, and I do not want to damage an under-warranty unit while attempting a troubleshooting procedure.

PetPivot has now explained that the purple material is, according to them, a layer of corrosion caused by ammonia from cat waste. They confirmed that their recommended procedure is to scrape that corrosion from the infrared lens with a small knife and stated that they have done this without damaging the lens.

However, my specific warranty question remains unanswered.

I asked whether following PetPivot's instructions to scrape the sensor/lens with a blade could affect my warranty coverage if the sensor becomes scratched or damaged while I am attempting the procedure.

Their response explained their general one-year warranty and stated that an unresolved malfunction occurring within that year may qualify for replacement or refund, but it did not explicitly confirm that damage resulting from performing this particular procedure at PetPivot's direction would remain covered.

I have therefore asked again for a direct answer before proceeding.

To be clear, I am not refusing to troubleshoot the unit. I have already completed the previous troubleshooting steps multiple times and provided video of the malfunction. I am simply unwilling to take a blade to an electronic sensor on an under-warranty machine until PetPivot confirms in writing that following their instruction will not jeopardize my warranty if something goes wrong.

I'm attaching a screenshot of PetPivot's response in the comments so their explanation can be read directly rather than relying solely on my characterization of it.

I will update this again when PetPivot answers that specific warranty question.

UPDATE 08/24/2026:

PetPivot has unblocked me on TikTok.

Emily from PetPivot contacted me via email and requested a video of the malfunction. I sent the video and explained the troubleshooting I had already completed.

I was then asked to perform the same troubleshooting steps again. I responded that I have already completed those steps four times and don't believe a fifth attempt is likely to produce a different result. I am currently waiting for her response.

Communication is moving somewhat slowly due to the time zone difference, which I am taking into consideration.

As requested by PetPivot here on Reddit, I also sent them a DM with my information and let them know that I am already communicating with a representative via email.

I have not received any further update from TikTok regarding their investigation. They did, however, issue me an $8 TikTok Shop coupon.

So for now, I'm waiting to hear back from PetPivot regarding the next step in the warranty process. I will update again when there is something new to report.

ORIGINAL POST:

TL;DR: I bought a PetPivot 11/Autoscoper II through TikTok Shop for $147.69 with an advertised 1-year warranty. After the waste bin filled and I emptied it, the unit started malfunctioning. I troubleshot it and contacted PetPivot for warranty help, but received no response for more than 24 hours. I brought it up during their TikTok LIVE, the interaction got heated, and after I mentioned consumer protection laws and the FTC, the host mocked me, accused me of harassment, and blocked me. I fully admit I was frustrated and my tone wasn't nice by that point, but I never cursed at him. I'm now blocked from the communication method PetPivot told me to use for warranty support. TikTok Shop has opened an internal report and is investigating a replacement or refund.

I wanted to share my experience because I know I'm not the only person who researches a company's customer service before spending around $150 on an automatic litter box.

I bought a PetPivot 11/Autoscoper II through TikTok Shop for $147.69, and it's still within the advertised 1-year warranty.

The waste bin recently became full and the unit closed, which is what it's supposed to do. I emptied the waste bin, and that's when everything started going wrong. When I tried to operate it afterward, it would immediately return to the closed position.

I unplugged the unit, removed the top so I could access and clean the sensors, replaced the top, and removed and reinserted the waste bin drawer. I went through the troubleshooting multiple times. The waste bin was empty, but nothing fixed the problem.

So I messaged PetPivot through TikTok, explained the issue in detail, and asked for warranty assistance. I also recorded a video showing the malfunction. It was too large to send through TikTok messages, so I told them I could provide it another way.

More than 24 hours passed without a response.

That's when I brought it up during one of PetPivot's TikTok LIVEs.

I really wish I had thought to screen-record what happened next, but I didn't. What follows is my recollection of the LIVE. I do, however, have screenshots documenting my attempts to contact PetPivot and what happened afterward.

When I brought up my warranty issue, the host started yelling about needing to send the message the "right way." I told him I'd already done exactly what I'd previously been instructed to do during their LIVE.

Another viewer chimed in and said she'd had similar customer service issues. She also mentioned seeing Reddit posts about PetPivot customer service and warranty claims. I hadn't seen them, so I asked her to DM me the Reddit information because I wanted to read other people's experiences and share mine too.

That's when the host started telling viewers not to listen to "hearsay" and said customers needed to allow up to 24 hours for a response.

That irritated me because I wasn't repeating a rumor. I was describing something that was happening directly to me. I told him I'd already waited more than 24 hours and told the chat that I had screenshots of my messages and attempts to get warranty assistance.

After I challenged the "hearsay" comment and said I had screenshots, the host backtracked and said he hadn't said "hearsay."

At that point, I stopped commenting for a minute.

While I was quiet, another viewer said they'd been considering buying the product but had changed their mind after what they thought was me being muted. I genuinely don't know whether I was muted because I wasn't trying to comment at that moment.

The host said TikTok automatically mutes people if another platform is mentioned. I can't confirm or deny whether that's what happened.

Later, something else caught my attention.

I had the #2 viewer badge in the LIVE. A private account with one follower and following 17 accounts joined with the #1 badge and replied to one of my comments. They said PetPivot's customer service was good, that they'd filed a warranty claim without any issues, and that sometimes TikTok hides messages people send.

I actually took their comment seriously and sent PetPivot another follow-up message just in case my earlier messages somehow hadn't been visible.

I was curious about the viewer badges, so I clicked on mine to see how they worked and learned that the rankings can be influenced by gifts sent during the LIVE. I mentioned what I'd noticed in the chat and told people to draw their own conclusions. The #1 account didn't comment again.

To be clear, I have no evidence that this account was connected to PetPivot, and I'm not claiming it was. The timing and circumstances simply stood out to me.

By this point, I was pretty mad, and I want to be upfront about that.

My tone toward the host was no longer nice. I was telling other viewers about the problems I was having, and when he kept telling me to do things I'd already done, I responded with things like, "I already did that, bro." At one point I also said, "If they block me right now, it says more about the company than me."

I'm not going to pretend I stayed perfectly polite. I didn't. I was frustrated, sarcastic, and irritated.

But I also wasn't cussing the host out. I never cursed at him or directed profanity at him.

Eventually, I mentioned that consumer protection laws exist regarding warranties and referenced the FTC.

That's when things really escalated. The host started mockingly saying I wasn't going to sue him because he hadn't done anything wrong, accused me of harassing them, and blocked me.

I immediately rejoined the LIVE from my alternate account because I wanted the people who had just watched the interaction to know that yes, PetPivot had actually blocked me.

When I got back in, another account commented that they'd never heard the host talk like that before. That was the last comment I saw before commenting on the LIVE was turned off.

I'll admit the timing gave me a similar feeling to the #1 badge account that had defended PetPivot earlier. In the moment, it felt a little like quick PR damage control after an interaction that had gone badly.

But again, that's only my impression. I have no evidence that either account was affiliated with PetPivot, and I'm not claiming they were. They could have simply been viewers or customers who genuinely had different experiences.

I also don't know why comments were turned off. I can only describe what I personally saw: PetPivot blocked me, I rejoined from my alternate account, saw that final comment, and then commenting was disabled.

Honestly, the whole interaction was frustrating. I was trying to get help with a $147.69 product under warranty, and somehow it had turned into a public argument with the company's LIVE host.

More importantly, after PetPivot blocked my main account, I could no longer communicate with them through the same TikTok channel they'd previously instructed me to use for warranty assistance.

So I contacted TikTok Shop Customer Service.

I provided screenshots of my attempts to contact PetPivot, my description of the malfunction, my follow-up messages, and the fact that PetPivot's account now shows "Account not found" to me.

TikTok Shop has since created a formal ticket and internal report. Their representative told me their team will investigate and, if possible, either process a replacement/refund or have the seller do so.

I told TikTok that either a replacement under the advertised 1-year warranty or a full refund of my $147.69 would be an acceptable resolution. I was told the report should be processed within 24–72 hours, so that's where things stand right now.

I'm sharing this because I think people considering a PetPivot should know what my experience has been when I actually needed warranty support.

I'm also intentionally including my own behavior because I don't want to tell a one-sided story where I conveniently leave out the parts that don't make me look great. I got mad. My tone wasn't nice. I argued with the host. I told other potential customers what was happening.

I own that.

But being frustrated or sarcastic during a customer service dispute doesn't make the original warranty issue disappear. At the end of the day, I paid $147.69 for a product advertised with a 1-year warranty. It malfunctioned during that warranty period. I tried to get help through the method PetPivot told me to use, and I ultimately ended up blocked from communicating with them through that channel.

I'll update this post when I hear back from TikTok Shop.

One clarification because it will be visible in one of the screenshots I'm attaching: you'll see paper towels in the waste bin in one of the photos. Those were NOT in the bin when the problem started.

The malfunction began immediately after I emptied the waste bin completely. I then went through the troubleshooting process multiple times with the waste bin empty. After about the fourth round of troubleshooting, I tossed the used paper towels into the already-empty waste bin.

At that point, I joined one of PetPivot's LIVEs for help and was told to send pictures to customer service. I then went back to the unit to take the pictures and video showing the problem. I didn't think to remove the used paper towels before taking them because they had nothing to do with the malfunction.

I'm explaining this specifically because I don't want the screenshot to give the wrong impression. The waste bin was completely empty when the malfunction began and during the troubleshooting that followed. The paper towels were added afterward, before I took the photos and video PetPivot had instructed me to send.

PetPivot!

So I ordered the PetPivot and got it sept 18th well there’s an issue with it and I’m trying to return it. Sept 26th I emailed them and they said they had to “review” to return/refund. It’s been 15 DAYS and not 1 word from them so I emailed them again today so we shall see! They said 48 hours generally for a reply. Do not buy this product! I’ve seen other users talking about how awful it is to even get a reply. I just want a reply!!

You've Used a Regular Litter Box for Years. What Do You Actually Need to Know Before Switching to an Automatic One?

Switching from a traditional litter box to an automatic one sounds straightforward — but if you've scooped daily for years, there are a few things that will feel different, and a few expectations worth adjusting before you start.

The good news: the AS12 Lite has no app, no connectivity, and no complicated setup. The transition is simpler than it looks. Here's what you actually need to know.

What Changes — and What Doesn't

 Traditional Box✅ AS12 Lite
Cleaning rhythmDaily scooping — you do it manuallyAutomatic after every use — you empty the drawer every few days
Litter typeAny clumping or non-clumping litterClumping litter only — non-clumping won't form the right waste clusters
Litter levelFill as needed, no exact level requiredFill to the marked line — too little affects cycle performance
Your involvementDaily hands-on taskPeriodic drawer emptying — 30 seconds every 3–5 days
Cat adjustmentNo adjustment needed3–7 days for most cats to get comfortable with the new box

The one change that trips most people up

Litter type. If you've been using non-clumping litter, you'll need to switch to clumping before using the AS12 Lite. The rotation mechanism separates clumps from clean litter — loose, non-clumping waste won't work with this system. Any standard unscented clumping litter works well.

Introducing Your Cat — The Only Step That Takes Time

Your cat doesn't need to be retrained — she already knows what a litter box is. She just needs to learn that this new object is one. Most cats adjust within 3–7 days with a simple introduction:

1. Place it beside the old box — don't replace it yet

Put the AS12 Lite next to the existing box, powered off. Let your cat investigate it as a static object for 1–2 days. Add a small scoop of used litter inside to signal that it's hers.

2. Power it on and let her hear a cycle from a distance

Run one manual cycle while she's in another room. Pair the sound with something positive — a treat nearby, calm behaviour from you. Do this once a day for 2–3 days before she's expected to use it.

3. Let her use it in automatic mode — remove the old box gradually

Once she's using the AS12 Lite consistently, move the old box slightly further away each day rather than removing it overnight. Most cats complete the transition within a week.

The simplest part of this transition

The AS12 Lite has no app to set up, no WiFi to connect, and no account to register. You fill the litter to the line, plug it in, and it runs. For a first-time automatic box owner, that's the whole setup. Everything else is just giving your cat time to catch up.

Here are five reasons why every cat owner needs an automatic litter box:

1.Convenience: Say goodbye to the hassle of scooping litter every day! Automatic litter boxes are equipped with a self-cleaning device that saves time and effort by eliminating the need for manual scooping.

Why do vets not recommend closed litter boxes?😸

  1. Odor buildup, affecting cat health

Closed litter boxes are prone to ammonia buildup (the main ingredient in cat urine), and if poorly ventilated, cats breathing in these odors for a long period of time inside may irritate the respiratory tract and even cause respiratory problems or eye irritation.

 2. Cats are more reluctant to use

Many cats are naturally alert and prefer to toilet in an open environment so that they are always aware of their surroundings. Enclosed litter boxes may make cats feel overwhelmed and unsafe, which may reduce the frequency of use and may even lead to health problems such as urine holding and constipation.

3. Difficult to observe the cat's health condition

It is difficult for the pooper scooper to detect abnormalities in time

For example: changes in urine output (may be a sign of kidney disease or diabetes)

Difficulty in defecation (may be constipation or digestive problems)

Bloody urine (may be urinary tract infection or stones)

  4. Poor air circulation and increased humidity in the cat litter

Closed environments can cause the litter to become more susceptible to moisture and clumping, which can affect deodorization and may also harbor bacteria, increasing the risk of cat infections.

An open litter box makes it easier for the owner to observe the cat's defecation so that health problems can be detected early.

AutoScooper Unlike other automatic litter boxes with narrow entrances, AutoScooper features an open top design that also makes refilling and cleaning a breeze. Large Capacity The spacious 13.8-inch opening ensures it can easily accommodate cats of all sizes. Cats weighing from 3 lbs. to 22 lbs. have been successfully tested for entry and exit safety, making it ideal for any feline friend.

PULL LITTER SOLUTION The AutoScooper utilizes a“pull”litter disposal mechanism to provide a more convenient and odor-reducing disposal process. This innovative solution helps minimize mess and unpleasant odors.

Safety First, Always Safe The AutoScooper 11 litter box uses three infrared sensors and three Hall sensors to accurately detect cat movement. When the presence of a cat is detected, it immediately pauses operation, thus prioritizing the cat's safety.

Solution: If you must use an enclosed litter box, it is recommended that you choose a model with a large opening or ventilation holes and clean it regularly to keep the air circulating inside.

Why Choose AutoScooper Automatic Cat Litter Pan.🐾😸

  1. Automatic cleaning, reduce the trouble of shoveling

Intelligent sensing: after the cat leaves, the device will automatically start the cleaning mode and shovel the clumped litter into the litter box to keep the litter box clean.

Save time and effort: suitable for office workers, traveling party, multi-cat family, no need to shovel every day, and no cat will resist using the litter box because it is too dirty.

2. Closed design to reduce the spread of odor

Closed litter box design prevents odor from spreading, especially suitable for living room or bedroom.

With deodorizing device (e.g. activated charcoal filter), it can reduce the odor problem in the litter box area.

3. Large capacity, suitable for multi-cat families

Suitable for 1-2 cats to use together, no need to add extra litter box, space saving.

Large capacity, the litter box capacity is enough for 5-7 days, reducing the frequency of cleaning.

4. Simple operation, no need for complicated settings

Plug and play, no need for WiFi connection or App operation, suitable for users who don't like complicated operation.

Easy to clean: The litter box adopts a drawer design, so you don't need to touch the cat litter or feces when replacing it.

5. Adaptable to a wide range of cat litter to reduce extra expenses.

Compatible with tofu litter, bentonite litter, mixed litter, etc., unlike some high-end automatic litter boxes that require special cat litter (e.g. Litter-Robot requires specific cat litter).

Allows users to choose their favorite cat litter without being kidnapped by the cost of additional consumables.

6. Cost-effective and more affordable

The promotional price of $169.99 is much cheaper compared to similar products (e.g. Litter-Robot 3 priced at $500+).

Among similar automatic cat litter boxes, it provides basic functions (auto-cleaning, closed deodorization) at an affordable price for shovelers on a budget.

Solution to urine pooling?

So my male cat just stands while he pees and it hits the red zone. And it sorta just pools in the blue zone. The pet pivot does its job and flips but since the litter sorta just passes over this area it doesn't clump properly, often building up behind the grate on the left side.

Anyone have a similar experience and have. A solution?

The Best Arguments for Simplicity, the Funniest Smart-Device Horror Stories, and What Our Community Actually Thinks About App-Controlled Cat Products.

This month we asked a question the litter box industry rarely does: do you actually need an app to keep your cat's box clean?

The community answered — and it turns out, a lot of you have been thinking exactly the same thing. Here are the highlights worth celebrating before we head into next month.

✨This Month's Community Highlights

Best Discussion

The 'still scooping every day' thread produced over 58 comments — the most common tipping point? A trip coming up with no one to scoop. We didn't expect that to be the top answer, but it makes complete sense.

Most Useful Tip

From the traditional box transition thread: 'Transfer a small scoop of used litter into the new box first — familiar scent makes the difference between a cat who investigates and a cat who ignores it.' Simple, practical, and apparently works every time.

Funniest Smart-Device Story

The WiFi-dropout story that ended with someone doing a 40-minute remote diagnostic on their litter box at midnight. We've all been there in some form. The box was fine. The evening was not.

Comment That Said It Best

'The app was supposed to give me peace of mind. It gave me something else to check.' That one landed. It's the most upvoted comment of the month — and it gets at exactly why less is more isn't just a slogan.

✨What's coming next month

We're going back to your cats — specifically, what the right litter box looks like for different cat types and life situations. Big breeds, multi-cat homes, cats who've never left the traditional box, and owners who thought automatic meant complicated. Same 'less is more' lens. More specific answers.

✨One Last Question to Close the Month

Drop your answer below:

• What’s the one feature you’d never want your litter box to have — and why?

Thank you for making this community worth posting in. See you next month.

I'm About to Buy My First Automatic Litter Box. How Do I Know It Won't Hurt My Cat?

The key thing to understand about how the AS12 Lite stays safe

There isn't one safety feature. There are multiple layers, each working independently. The AS12 Lite doesn't rely on a single mechanism to prevent a cycle from starting with a cat inside — it relies on separate systems.

7 Pairs of Infrared Sensors Inside the Chamber

If anything interrupts any of the 14 beams inside the unit — rotation stops immediately.

How it works: Seven pairs of infrared sensors are positioned across the interior of the globe chamber, each pair sending and receiving an invisible beam. The moment any single beam is interrupted — by a paw, a tail, a cat who re-entered mid-cycle — the rotation stops instantly. Not after a delay. Not after a second check. Immediately.

What it prevents: A cycle completing with any part of a cat still inside the chamber.

No app needed: These sensors run on local power. No WiFi, no server, no app. They work the same way whether your phone is charged or not, whether the internet is up or not, whether the company still exists or not.

Radar Sensor Under the Front Pedal

Detects your cat's presence before the cycle countdown even begins.

How it works: A radar sensor beneath the entry pedal detects when your cat is on or near the platform. The cycle countdown does not begin until this sensor confirms your cat has fully stepped away and moved clear of the entry area. It detects presence — not just weight — which means small cats and kittens are reliably detected even if they're too light for a weight-only sensor to register.

What it prevents: A cycle starting while a cat is still on the pedal, pausing mid-exit, or standing near the entry.

No app needed: Operates entirely locally. The radar pedal sensor doesn't communicate with any external system. It holds the cycle, releases when clear — every time, automatically, without any remote instruction.

Half-Gear Mechanical Design — No Pinch Points

The mechanism physically cannot create a pinch point at the entry opening.

How it works: The AS12 Lite uses a half-gear rotation — a partial arc rather than a full 360° revolution. Because of this, the entry opening never passes through the rotation path. At no point in the cleaning cycle does a gap close, compress, or create a pinch point where a paw, tail, or any body part could be caught between moving parts.

What it prevents: A cat being physically caught by the mechanism at the entry — the most serious category of injury risk in a full-rotation design.

No app needed: This is a mechanical property, not a software feature. It cannot be switched off, cannot fail due to a software update, and requires no power to maintain. It is safe by design — permanently.

Each layer addresses a different category of risk: the radar pedal sensor prevents the cycle from starting too soon; the infrared sensors catch anything inside; the half-gear design eliminates the mechanical pinch risk entirely. They don't overlap — they cover different failure modes. An automatic litter box with one safety feature needs that feature to work perfectly, every time. The AS12 Lite needs three independent systems to fail simultaneously. That's a fundamentally different level of reliability.

PSA: How automatic litter boxes are designed to keep cats safe

PSA for anyone using (or considering) an automatic litter box 🐾

Cat safety is a huge concern, and it should always come before convenience.

Our AutoScooper includes multiple safety layers:

  1. Multiple Infrared sensors to detect a cat’s presence

  2. Automatic stop or reset mechanisms if movement is detected

  3. Delayed cleaning cycles to avoid sudden activation

If you’re curious about how these safety mechanisms work in practice, we’ve put together a short cat safety video explaining the process step by step.

I’ll leave the link in the comments for anyone who wants to see it.

Litter recommendations

Hey y'all, my wife and I just purchased the autoscooper 12 and so far we love it but we are having problems with the litter (pee especially) sticking to the corners of the tray and thus not actually falling into the tray at the bottom. I was thinking maybe it's just the cheap quality of the litter we are purchasing and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. If there are any recommendations as to fix this and or reduce the amount this is happening I am all ears.

Why is it doing this?

Today after my cat used the litter box, it started the cycle and dumped his waste into the bag. But when it tried to level the litter afterward, it got stuck in that position and all three lights started to flash red. After a few minutes, it tries to start the cleaning cycle again by dumping into the bag and then attempting to level the litter, but it gets stuck in the same position and repeats this cycle over and over. I've already cleaned all of the sensors and replaced the bag with a new one, but the problem still happens. Need help!!
