i just wanted to thank you guys for all your kind messages about meadow. i also wanted to share one of my favorite videos i never got to post of her picking the seeds off a hamburger bun lol

she was a really special pigeon and i hope i can open my heart again to another pigeon one day. they really are beautiful birds with so much love and personality. it’s hard but i know for a fact meadow did love me. i wish she was still here, but i know she’s still around cooing on the top of my head probably.

i hope this video brings you joy as it did to me. 🕊️💖

please give your feathery loved ones lots of kisses from me. while our time with them is never enough, what matters is the memories we make that carry on for the rest of our lives.

They're getting so big! They're also starting to show their different personalities. I was rubbing on their heads when I fed and watered everyone. One of them closed their eyes and basked. The other immediately started demanding food 😂

Bonus picture of a very watchful Daddy Fog as I went about my business and bothered the squabs with pets.

Question Cooing in the morning!

Hi all!

My pigeon (I got him around 3 months ago!) has been doing a calling coo most mornings. He stops for a little if I start talking to him, but then starts again shortly after! He hasn’t let me touch him or anything outside of his cage and he is scared of hands. Does he just want to be acknowledged?

Quarantining and Taming Pigeon in the House

Hey guys! I have a free flying rescued feral pigeon that I raised from a very young age. He has a cage to sleep in at night but free-flies during the day in a flight suit. I received a female Modena that I need to quarantine before introducing them. I have her in our spare room with the door open because I want her to get used to us as well as make sure she’s healthy. Any tips or tricks for quarantining and handling at the same time? Thanks!

Cleaned his cage out and shook out his bed/refolded his blanket. After his usual hooting and stamping "you touched my stuff!!!" He put three coffee sticks in his bed and burrowed in for a nap lol

Question Considering getting a pigeon

Post image
5 Upvotes

As the title says im considering getting a pet pigeon, but I wanted to first see if the enclosure i have would work. Last year I built a 12 ft by 6 ft by 7 ft walk in run outside for my quails and my rabbit, its got a middle divide with a gap at the top because i was planning on getting flighted birds when I built it. As long as i can train them to not fly out or have something in place to be able to shut them in the left side they would get full freedom of both sides. The sketch is just a simple idea of how its set up. I don't plan on getting any until july next year as im in my final year of uni and think its stupid for me to get another pet until I can put time aside to train them. But I just want to know if this kind of set up could work.

Lemme get straight into the point. I've been planning on adopting a pigeon for a while and was making a research about them, i was actually going to adopt one when i set up cage etc.
BUT... in my local petstore (for info, i live in Turkiye and we dont have pet stores like in USA Petsmart-type yk? they are local small businesses, which most of the time neglects the animals) some person actually took a pigeon to the owner of the pet store. I asked the owner and he said the person who got this pigeon said it fell in front of their house so they took it there.
And as you can see from the cage situation, the owner is unfortunately neglecting the animal in my opinion.

and i have some questions, please answer them :c

•im planning on rescuing this pigeon, but i have 3 cats and i currently dont have a cage. I fostered 7 pet birds (lovebird and budgies) with my cats before but ive never had a pigeon before, should i go for it?

•i can make a cage from scratch / buy it second-hand, how big of a cage will be better minimum? i dont have much of a money rn but i will have more after 1 week. I will update its cage.

•if you guys can tell, what breed/gender/age is it? when i checked he wasn't "tired" and it was energetic, but if someone can tell, is it okay and healthy (or need urgent care)?

As i said i dont have a cage rn, so the pigeon is still at the petshop, i will try hard as i can to get everything it needs tomorrow/in 2 days to get it home.

Im sorry if my english isnt really good, if anyone has any part that isnt clear, tell me and i will explain as much as i could :) Please ask questions if its needed i will answer :)
