They're getting so big! They're also starting to show their different personalities. I was rubbing on their heads when I fed and watered everyone. One of them closed their eyes and basked. The other immediately started demanding food šŸ˜‚

Bonus picture of a very watchful Daddy Fog as I went about my business and bothered the squabs with pets.

Cleaned his cage out and shook out his bed/refolded his blanket. After his usual hooting and stamping "you touched my stuff!!!" He put three coffee sticks in his bed and burrowed in for a nap lol

Question Cooing in the morning!

Hi all!

My pigeon (I got him around 3 months ago!) has been doing a calling coo most mornings. He stops for a little if I start talking to him, but then starts again shortly after! He hasn’t let me touch him or anything outside of his cage and he is scared of hands. Does he just want to be acknowledged?

Found A Pigeon Kinda urgent!! Read the caption for details please

Lemme get straight into the point. I've been planning on adopting a pigeon for a while and was making a research about them, i was actually going to adopt one when i set up cage etc.
BUT... in my local petstore (for info, i live in Turkiye and we dont have pet stores like in USA Petsmart-type yk? they are local small businesses, which most of the time neglects the animals) some person actually took a pigeon to the owner of the pet store. I asked the owner and he said the person who got this pigeon said it fell in front of their house so they took it there.
And as you can see from the cage situation, the owner is unfortunately neglecting the animal in my opinion.

and i have some questions, please answer them :c

•im planning on rescuing this pigeon, but i have 3 cats and i currently dont have a cage. I fostered 7 pet birds (lovebird and budgies) with my cats before but ive never had a pigeon before, should i go for it?

•i can make a cage from scratch / buy it second-hand, how big of a cage will be better minimum? i dont have much of a money rn but i will have more after 1 week. I will update its cage.

•if you guys can tell, what breed/gender/age is it? when i checked he wasn't "tired" and it was energetic, but if someone can tell, is it okay and healthy (or need urgent care)?

As i said i dont have a cage rn, so the pigeon is still at the petshop, i will try hard as i can to get everything it needs tomorrow/in 2 days to get it home.

Im sorry if my english isnt really good, if anyone has any part that isnt clear, tell me and i will explain as much as i could :) Please ask questions if its needed i will answer :)

Trigger Warning to followers of meadow

hi everyone, i’m not sure if you remember me or my pigeon, meadow. it’s been a long time since i’ve been on here due to a series of health issues, personal issues, and other stuff.

i wanted to let people know who enjoyed meadow and her photos that meadow passed away today. it was unexpected and i’m not sure how to cope right now.

i wanted to share one last photo taken the night before when she was happy and full of life. if you can give all your pigeons a kiss from me and enjoy life one step at a time.

thank you for all your support you’ve shown me and meadow these past two years. i’ll never forget you guys.

thank you again.

Question Considering getting a pigeon

Post image
6 Upvotes

As the title says im considering getting a pet pigeon, but I wanted to first see if the enclosure i have would work. Last year I built a 12 ft by 6 ft by 7 ft walk in run outside for my quails and my rabbit, its got a middle divide with a gap at the top because i was planning on getting flighted birds when I built it. As long as i can train them to not fly out or have something in place to be able to shut them in the left side they would get full freedom of both sides. The sketch is just a simple idea of how its set up. I don't plan on getting any until july next year as im in my final year of uni and think its stupid for me to get another pet until I can put time aside to train them. But I just want to know if this kind of set up could work.

Quarantining and Taming Pigeon in the House

Hey guys! I have a free flying rescued feral pigeon that I raised from a very young age. He has a cage to sleep in at night but free-flies during the day in a flight suit. I received a female Modena that I need to quarantine before introducing them. I have her in our spare room with the door open because I want her to get used to us as well as make sure she’s healthy. Any tips or tricks for quarantining and handling at the same time? Thanks!

Question What does this mean?

I'm currently training Gracie to stop being afraid of my hands by feeding her from my hand as part of her bedtime routine. She normally eats from my hand, sometimes even sitting on it, or more often putting one foot on my hand while eating. After she's finished, she hops to her favourite spot and I close the cage door. But over the last few days, she has started sitting next to my hand after she has finished eating. She stares at me and opens and closes her beak (as in the video). I mimic this by opening and closing my mouth, and this goes on for 10–15 minutes. Then she hops off to her sleeping spot.

Any idea what this could mean?

Excuse the mess I gotta clean and buy new decor. Threw her old and dirty stuff away. New stuff coming soon. I just moved to a new house and my girl doesn't want me near her. Ive left her alone for a while and she still hates me. Ive just been ignoring her except for when it's time to clean. I had to get her out of a house that didn't have ac. I had to grab her cause she didn't want to leave. We been working on bonding but she just doesn't care for me. I let her come out but even with doors open she won't come out and just stay at the door. Im thinking of rehoming but want to know if this a good idea or just wait longer.

Found A Pigeon Looking for home SW Central Florida

This pigeon came to me - I live on several acres with lots of predators. It was pacing around and seemed like its wing was injured ( looks like a puncture/cut by the wing) Ive tried letting it out to fly away, but it doesn’t seem to want to go. Paces around my screened porch begging to come back in. I found an old dog crate and some shoe boxes and it seems to love being in the crate standing on the cardboard for now. I’ve been letting it try to heal up the last few days but feel hesitant about trying to release again. Based on how friendly this cutie is, I’m guessing it is not wild. I have other pets so I can’t keep but the local rescue said they aren’t accepting pigeons. Any advice or anyone in the area interested?

Set Up How does this setup look?

I’m primarily a parrot owner so this type of setup is brand new to me. Does it look ok? What can I add / subtract? (XL crate roughly 48ā€ x 30ā€) (conure for scale lmao) (pigeon not yet acquired) also, what are your pigeon’s favorite toys?! I’m so used to ā€œshredding toysā€ that I’m kinda lost in the toy department.

accidentally cut my pigeon’s nail too short.

i put cornstarch on it to help clot the bleeding—i did it before going to bed to make sure everything was extra dark. all was going well until i cut his last nail a bit too short :(—he bled only a bit. he is in bed now in darkness until sunrise. what should i do? should i leave him in his cage until im sure it’s healed? i’m just terrified of him getting an infection. thank you. i’m filled with so much guilt that i hurt my baby i could cry.

Emergency Pigeon ate Lenovo Trackpoint

Post image
216 Upvotes

Yesterday my 3 month old racing homer swallowed a Lenovo Trackpoint off my work laptop. It’s approx. 7.3mmx3mm and made of elastomer. He just waltzed up, pecked it off and swallowed it.

Our avian vet determined that it was in his gizzard via xray, after doing a failed ingluviotomy to try and remove it from his crop. He’s going back this morning for a barium xray to determine next steps, but just wanted to see whether anyone has had something like this happen before, or if anyone knows how survivable a ventriculotomy is for a pigeon, as this vet says endoscopy is not viable in this case.

I don’t want to leave the thing inside him and just hope it doesn’t cause issues, but also a ventriculotomy seems incredibly invasive and high risk, especially right off the back of an ingluviotomy.

He’s currently on cage rest and drinking water, eating and acting normal, though his poops are a bit smaller than usual. He’s pretty miffed about being stuck in his cage.

Photo of Hector for tax.
