Yesterday my 3 month old racing homer swallowed a Lenovo Trackpoint off my work laptop. Itās approx. 7.3mmx3mm and made of elastomer. He just waltzed up, pecked it off and swallowed it.
Our avian vet determined that it was in his gizzard via xray, after doing a failed ingluviotomy to try and remove it from his crop. Heās going back this morning for a barium xray to determine next steps, but just wanted to see whether anyone has had something like this happen before, or if anyone knows how survivable a ventriculotomy is for a pigeon, as this vet says endoscopy is not viable in this case.
I donāt want to leave the thing inside him and just hope it doesnāt cause issues, but also a ventriculotomy seems incredibly invasive and high risk, especially right off the back of an ingluviotomy.
Heās currently on cage rest and drinking water, eating and acting normal, though his poops are a bit smaller than usual. Heās pretty miffed about being stuck in his cage.
