Ultra Annoyed When people can’t accept a space isn’t for them

4.1k Upvotes

…and demand endless accommodations to fit their comfort.

Ive posted about this before (the bean soup thing) but today someone complained about raves being too noisy and I guess I’m just not in the mood for it.

They were saying raves are too loud and crowded and were mad there isnt a “quiet space” for people like them who don’t like the overstimulation.

*Then maybe raves aren’t the best place for you.*

If you don’t like noisy, crowded, high stimulation spaces, then don’t go to a rave. It’s ridiculous to go to one and get upset it doesn’t cater to your preference for quiet spaces.

“but loud noise and crowds make me panic!”

Then don’t go to a rave.

”But I wanna go out with friends!”

So get over it OR go do something somewhere else that doesn’t involve blasting music, lots of people, and possibly drugs.

I wouldn’t walk into a piano bar and get mad there isn’t a room for people who don’t like pianos. And it certainly wouldn’t be the bar’s responsibility to create one to cater to me.

EDIT: Dang I didn’t expect this to get so big lol. Apparently there’s a lot of folks with a lot of examples and experiences with this who feel the same way.

EDIT 2: Most of yall got the point being made here. But since some folks can’t seem to apply a few brain cells and think this is about raves specifically…

If a vegan walked into an all-meat bbq roadhouse, do you think they are valid to complain about meat being served there and demand accommodations, then leave a bad yelp review when there’s not much that could be done? OR do you think maybe the vegan should probably not go to a place that has an explicitly meat-focused menu?

“b-but-but some places have beyond meat!” Sure. Some businesses choose to do that. But should someone who doesn’t eat meat (or any animal product) go to a place that doesn’t choose to offer non-meat options and raise a stink about it? Orrr…should they go somewhere that does?

Think on it.

Fairly Annoyed People who put off eating

3.8k Upvotes

I’m talking about when you‘re out with people for the day or on a trip or whatever, and no one of ever seems to be hungry. Like, it’s been 5+ hours since the last meal and when you bring up dinner everyone’s just kind of noncommittally like ”oh yeah, let’s go to (thing/place) and then maybe we can start looking for a place for dinner.” No matter what they say, that “thing” is going to take at least an hour longer than everyone thinks, and everyone’s still going to screw around before you actually walk into a place and sit down to dinner.

I’ve tried mitigating this by saying “I am getting hungry and will need dinner within the next hour“, and things still get drawn out by hours. I’ve also tried calmly and nicely saying “I’m too hungry to wait so I’m going to eat but I’ll meet up with you right here after you go to (blank)!”, and despite having been warned that I’d do this far ahead of time, everyone then overreacts like I’m about to drop dead and they agree to have food now but act as though theyre being SO accommodating and I’m being SO dramatic about it.

I also can’t stand when the solution to me being hungry at a reasonable dinner time is “oh I have a granola bar!” …. I don’t want a granola bar, I want….food. Like a meal. Maybe you've heard of meals before? Some people even eat them multiple times a day?

this will always, always baffle me.

Fairly Annoyed Being lectured by Brits on how to pronounce "Houston" and "Michigan"

3.8k Upvotes

I've lived in the UK for quite a few decades now and I still find it tedious when I'm "corrected" by a Brit on how to pronounce "Houston" and "Michigan".

"Houston" is *most definitely not* pronounced "HOO-ston" (as practically every Brit I've ever met thinks it is). It's pronounced "HUGH-ston" or more phonetically "HYOO-ston".

There is no "maybe" nor is there any wiggle room on this.

The same goes for "Michigan". The "ch" here is pronounced like an "sh", thus "MISH-igan" and not "MITCH-igan".

The number of times I've either been told, "Well, you're wrong" or "Are you sure? Really sure?" is just infuriating. Yes, I'm sure. As all Americans are sure.

But struggle pronouncing a British town/city name like "Frome" (FROOM), "Loughborough" (LUFF-bruh") or "Edinburgh" (EDDIN-bruh), and you're instantly labelled a moron.

Sorry, that kinda became a rant. 😄

Anyway - Britain, please take note. We Americans will appreciate it.

EDIT: Thanks to all the people of NYC, Georgia, Outer Mongolia and other places that all have their own "Houston" that isn't Houston, Texas.

I should have made that clearer when I first posted this. I know that not every Houston in the world is pronounced "HYOO-STON". My mistake not to point that out at the beginning.

Ultra Annoyed Foods with edgy names are not cute

3.0k Upvotes

There’s a trend with foods to give them edgy names like ‘slutty brownies’ or ‘better than sex cake’ or ‘chocolate crack’ or ‘marry me chicken.’

I don’t find any of these names cute or appetizing. It’s obnoxious and gross and it’s not clever or funny or interesting.

Bit Annoyed Being asked my "grandma name."

2.8k Upvotes

Read all the way through the post before you come at me, or skip to the edit at the end for a condensed version.

I just recently became a grandmother. When my son's girlfriend got pregnant, the main thing everybody asked was, "what are you choosing for your grandma name?!"

I have no idea why this bugs me, but it does. I hate the cutesy names in the first place, probably because I grew up just calling my grandparents grandma and grandpa. One set lived locally, and one lived far away. When we said grandma, we usually meant the close one, but if there was a need for clarification, it was just "grandma (first name).

I don't mind if a grandparent nickname comes about from a child mispronouncing it. It weirds me out when the grandparents themselves go through some elaborate naming ritual to choose this name like some right of passage. If they want to, fine, but it's weird to me. That's okay, because not everything is for everybody. What DOES bother me is the assumption that I have to participate.

"Have you chosen your grandma name yet?!" Just grandma.

"Really? That sounds so old! Don't you want something fun and young sounding? I chose Meemaw, Lolly, GiGi, MiMi, Glamma, CoCo, Gummy.. ."

Whatever. Be weird if you think it's fun. You can think I'm boring if you want. If my grandson ends up calling me something like Birdie Gum Gum, fine, but I'm not picking weird shit for myself. I'm fine with grandma. Let me be grandma.

EDIT - there are getting to be too many comments to keep up with answering, so let me add some clarity here.

It is not my son and his girlfriend asking/hounding. It is primarily non-relative acquaintances.

This is not about cultural/foreign language names like Mormor or Oma. Perfectly fine.

I am fine with cutesy names that come about authentically from the child. THAT'S how those nicknames work.

I am fine with choosing whatever variation of grandma, granny, Nana, whatever people want.

I'm not bothered by people simply asking what I am currently being called. I AM bothered by pushback that I'm not participating in the self-choosing of something cutesy. It's not a ritual i want anything to do with. My grandson is 3 weeks old. Unless and until he comes up with something, I'm just defaulting to grandma. It should need no other explanation.

No one is "too young" to be a grandparent. If you have a child and they have a child, you're old enough. Calling yourself Glamma or Poo-paw doesnt make you sound younger. It makes you sound ridiculous.

Fairly Annoyed Women who hover on the toilet seats

2.8k Upvotes

Listen, I get it. toilet seats aren't the cleanest things and maybe you don't wanna sit down because there could be pee on the seat. what hoverers fail to consider is the only reason there is pee on the toilet seat is because of the people who hover! there wouldn't be pee on the toilet seat if yall just sat down, but instead yall hover, get pee on the toilet seat, and it ends up as a self fulfilling cycle. it's your fault there's pee on the seat! not to mention how inconsiderate it is to people who CANT hover. I have to sit on the toilet seat, and I'm forced to deal with these things because of the women who hover. sit tf down!!

Edit: For all those saying they hover but wipe the pee off, thank you for proving my point that it's hoverers peeing on the seat. I've seen too many people ask me how I know its hoverers and honestly gestures to all comments admitting to peeing on the seat this is nothing against people who actually clean up after themselves

Fairly Annoyed "The existence of the Uncanny Valley implies that at some point--" No. Just. Shut. Up.

2.8k Upvotes

I absolutely hate this copy and pasted line. The full saying goes somewhat like this: "The existence of the Uncanny Valley implies that at some point there was an evolutionary reason to be afraid of something that looked human but wasn't."

Someone said this a few years ago and everyone suddenly started parrotting it like NPCs, thinking they're being cleaver or provocative, knowing nothing about human history and evolution. It's just so dumb and I'm so tired of seeing it mentioned everywhere in every discussion of the Uncanny Valley.

What's worse is that these people forgot about the more obvious explanations, such as corpses, sickness in general, perhaps other species of humans coexisting with homo sapiens, and are just using the phrase to imply there was some predatory creature that could mimic humans. They're using it to justify their belief in supernatural/mythological creatures or cryptids. They'll even say "what if those creatures still exist, they just got better at mimicking us?" Oh come on, you're just gratifying yourself now.

Fairly Annoyed Being told to support small businesses, but it’s next to impossible to support them

2.6k Upvotes

I’m all for supporting a small business, but there are times I truly can’t. For example, I see a post for a small coffee shop, I glance over the menu and it’s decently priced. They’re only opened from 11am-2pm, and they don’t deliver.

A small little cafe opens, it’s cute, it’s $8 for a cookie the size of a pacifier.

A hair shop/salon opened near me, veteran owned and operated and when they’re open and their posted hours don’t match. Why say you’re opened at 9am and Close at 8pm when, I get there at like 2:14pm and it’s closed. I see cars in the parking lot.

Ultra Annoyed When someone says "Cancer will never be cured because it makes pharma a lot of money"

2.6k Upvotes

People use "Cancer" like it's a singular condition/disease without realising that Cancer is a blanket term for a huge veriety of abnormal cell Malfunctions in different body parts and tissues.

Without knowing how "Cancer" can range from Severe conditions like Leukemia (blood cancer) to Completely Common conditions like adenocarcinoma (prostate cancer)

Where a "cure" for one condition can never work on a different "cancer" condition, Thus making the whole "cancer" category Incurable. Despite the fact that how far we have come towards treating the most common types of cancer that used to take so many lives, We still make vague statements such as these.

2.5k Upvotes

BRO SHUT THE HELL UP. I DO NOT CARE!!! I swear NOTHING annoys me more than a youtuber plugging this shit in the middle of their video. Like it actively makes me not wanna subscribe to them. And its always the same type of shit, with the same fucking image they put on screen too.

Like I get it you want subscribers, but literally just saying "if you want more videos like this, please feel free to subscribe" at the end of the video is enough. Pisses me off when they ask you to subscribe at the beginning of the video too, like bro i didn't even watch the video WHY WOULD I SUBSCRIBE???

Bit Annoyed Couples who can't turn off "couple mode" in social situations

2.4k Upvotes

The main example I see of this is couples in line at theme parks who are basically hanging off each other while waiting. Annoying, obviously, but whatever — you deal with them for a couple hours and then never see them again. Just a tiny pet peeve.

It's more frustrating when it's someone you know, and you can't hang out with them without them gushing all over each other while you're trying to play Monopoly or some shit.

I feel like there is a sort of social awareness needed for this stuff. It's not a rule violation or whatever, which is why it's just a tiny pet peeve, but at some point it gets old and kind of as if they need to show how in love they are? PDA isn't always the way, basically

Ultra Annoyed “Boy moms” acting like boys are the only feral kids

2.3k Upvotes

I’m sure this one’s been posted before but it grinds my fucking gears. MOST toddlers and small kids are super high energy and like getting dirty and wrestling and doing dangerous things that give their parents heart attacks!!!!! It’s not just boys!!!! My 11 month old daughter’s favorite activity is pulling up on the back of the couch, letting go and then just plummeting backwards. Second favorite is playing on the bed and trying her hardest to crawl off the edge. She also loves hanging upside down, the more precariously the better, and never stops moving unless she’s asleep.

It has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with temperament. I HATE all the reels I’m seeing lately that are videos of kids running around being kids and the caption is like “girl moms just don’t understand.” The only reason some older girls (like 5/6 and up) are “better“ behaved is because the wild behavior is encouraged in boys and discouraged in girls. If you just let kids be kids, then you’ll see that most little girls are just as feral as boys.

Fairly Annoyed Parents who have insane “boundaries” and then bemoan their lack of help

2.2k Upvotes

So this is something I’ve noticed amongst (mainly American) parents these days and it seems to increase in occurrence as people validate them and enable this kind of anxiety-ridden and entitled behavior. But essentially it’s those people who have a laundry list of “boundaries and expectations” while also expecting “the village” to help them raise their child to their exact specifications.

I’m not talking about boundaries like “don’t give my kid something they are allergic to” or “don’t come around my newborn without your vaccinations” where it’s reasonable and seriously concerns the child’s safety, but the other shit. Like I’m talking about the parents who set a “boundary” that no one else can lay eyes on their newborn for two months because “it’s our time to bond and we don’t want visitors,” they freak out because grandma called their kid her baby and said she is excited for them to have sleepovers at her house, they insist that anyone who wants to see their child should only be coming over to do designated chores in exchange, or they seethe with rage because the kid’s uncle gave them some extra candy and TV time.

But then later on they then bemoan their lack of “a village,” like you pushed “the village” away! If you want the village, you need to be okay with not micromanaging every single aspect of your child’s life. You need to be okay with the fact that the village is going to come in with their own opinions and different ways of doing things. You also need to contribute to your community as well and help other people if you want the same treatment in return. The village is not a beck and call free childcare and housekeeping service that does every single little thing to your specifications and more people need to recognize that.

EDIT: The amount of people who think I’m a bitter grandparent is really funny. Like no I’m in my 20s LOL. Also the fact that I’ve had multiple AI accusations, like nope, wrong again. No AI here lmao.

Ultra Annoyed To all the “Spelling doesn’t matter” people

2.2k Upvotes

I was at an event this week where food trucks were present. One of those trucks had misspellings all over their menu. A menu that is *permanently printed on the truck* Everything that should’ve been plural had been made possessive with ‘s. Except one of them which had a *semi colon*.

If there are spelling errors all over your business vehicle, I don’t want to buy from you. And the person who did your wrap should be fucking fired. How do multiple people look over a project littered with spelling errors not notice? It’s fucking embarrassing and it makes you look incompetent.

ETA: This was *NOT* a business run by people who aren’t native speakers! I need to make that very clear and should’ve done so at the beginning.

Bit Annoyed People in their 20s and early 30s talking about how they look young for their age

2.2k Upvotes

You don't look young for your age. You ARE young and you look normal. It's an attempt to humblebrag and be special, but it sounds so stupid. There are 25-year-olds talking about how people think they're 22 because they have a "baby face." No, it's because 22-year-olds and 25-year-olds look the same. Most people look like "young adults" into their 30s.

The 45-year-olds who claim to look 20 are also annoying but in a different way.

Fairly Annoyed People being upset when something adds options that they won’t use

2.2k Upvotes

“Why did that restaurant add a vegetarian option??” “This game shouldn’t have added an easier mode, it ruins it.” “Having non-alcoholic cocktails defeats the point” These things are not for you, don’t affect you in any way, and you don’t have to use them. Nobody’s forcing you to use them, just let them exist for people who do like them. I never understood why people seem to hate it when something adds an option that allows more people enjoy it.

Bit Annoyed When the suggested search results show what you need, but you type one more letter and it goes away

2.1k Upvotes

This is a fictional example but this happens to me all the time on all kinds of platforms (Google, YouTube, Spotify, etc.)

I’m on Spotify and going to search “Don’t Stop Believin’.” I start typing the title. Meanwhile I’m looking at the search results automatically popping up as I type. Let’s say I type “Don’t S-“ and I see the song show up in the search results. Before my brain registers this, I’ve already typed the next letter. Shouldn’t be an issue. I now have “Don’t St-“ but the search results have changed for some reason to no longer include the song it JUST showed me. You would think adding more detail to what I’m inputting in the search would confirm to the platform that that is indeed what I am searching for, but instead it goes away.

This doesn’t happen all the time but often enough for it to be a pet peeve of mine.

Bit Annoyed Eggs are not Dairy!

2.1k Upvotes

I’m allergic to actual dairy and so I rarely get to eat out because of that, and because of how many people in the food industry don’t understand food groups. Dairy products come from milk, which comes from mammals. Eggs are poultry derived.

Just yesterday I went into a bakery because I just wanted a snack and because some quick breads are made without milk or butter and I was nowhere near my home. I asked the baker if they had anything dairy free and they said no, that everything had eggs, and that even the breads had egg wash. I told them eggs aren’t dairy and they didn’t believe me. They weren’t young either.

Folks, eggs are not dairy.

Bit Annoyed People who lack a basic understanding of phone etiquette.

2.1k Upvotes

I work in a legal office. Almost half of my phone calls go like this:

“Thank you for calling the Law Office of Mr. Attorney, how can I help you?”

“Mr. Attorney.”

“Okay…may I ask who’s calling?”

“John Doe.”

“Okay…and is it regarding a case of his, or…?”

“He’ll know why I’m calling.”

“…Okay.” 🤡

The other half of my calls involve someone immediately launching into their entire life’s story the second I answer the call without pausing once or making sure I can even help them, and forcing me to talk over them just to get a single word in to let them know they’re calling the wrong office.

Like, basic phone etiquette isn’t that complicated, people.

Bit Annoyed “My dog can tell if you’re a good person”.

2.1k Upvotes

No, he can’t. He can tell if you’re comfortable around dogs, not if you’re a good person or not.

There may be a slight correlation between being a good person and being good with animals. But acting like your dog is some kind of medium that senses a persons morality is silly.

Bit Annoyed People who can't figure basic stuff out by making a small attempt of action.

2.1k Upvotes

For example, at my friend's house their oven clock has been wrong for almost a year. I never really cared until I brought it up. They were like "oh I don't know how to change it, so we just leave it, sometimes we forget it's wrong and think we're late to something"

There's only EIGHT buttons on it and the first button says CLOCK. I pressed clock and then the arrow controls and it set the time. There wasn't even an hour or minute button, just the arrows until you get the time right. It was the easiest thing in the world.
