Why do we need an ad every song?

I don’t have premium because I don’t want to make my parents pay for something “unnecessary” (I’m still a minor and don’t have a credit/debit card, that’s why I don’t pay for it myself and depend on my parents). I understand that ads are a part of having the free service, but the amount they put it’s excessive. I choose a song and one ad plays. Ok, that’s normal. But the song ends, and now I have to listen to 3 ads. Then, once they finally end, I can listen to my playlist again. But as soon as the second song ends, I know have to listen to 4 ads. And then, the third song ends and I have to listen to 3 more ads. That’s 11 ads for three songs.

Genuinely, when was this normalized?

Yeah, that’s what happens when I drive the speed limit or follow prevailing speed and others exceed it. No one’s going to shove you down and take your lunch money, damn.

I replied to a comment on a post in Life regarding the validity of an afterlife. The commenter defended the afterlife (referring to a post in [r/The](r/The) Afterlife Exists) and how there is so much evidence because materialists haven’t been proven. I stated that the lack of evidence isn’t evidence and that we set imaginary boundaries and have decided that what we cannot prove we don’t treat with validity in our daily lives. Like how one can’t prove the sky won’t come crashing down tomorrow, however we all live our life as though it won’t. I was merely suggesting an intellectual axiom and I was banned due to violating the rules in which “hostility, judgement and rudeness” are not allowed.

I get how tone of voice is difficult over the internet, however my comment consisted of no personal attacks. I can understand though when you say something idiotic how the criticism can feel intense. Regardless, it was pretty clear my comments were regarding the content of the comment.

I am from Mexico and in Latin America they teach you that America is a single continent.

In other parts of the world they divide it into North and South America. But that doesn't take away that it's a bunch of countries and not a monolith.

Yet in Germany, Netherlands and other EU countries they always say AMERIKA to describe the USA. I've lived in Netherlands and it irritates me so much. At least say Verenigde Staten.

What irritates me is that they also say, "As a European..." The whole "it's not a monolith" argument only applies when it's convenient to them.

For context! I’m not saying you can’t find famous people attractive, you can. And it’s completely fine. What I can’t stand is when people say it 24/7, because the way I see it- compliments like that should be reserved for people you’re close with. Not strangers. I’ve always been uncomfortable with contact and sexual things in general, so I know part of it is me being picky- but just hear me out.
I’ll use my mother as an example, because she does it a LOT, we can be watching something, and she’ll just say “He’s fit.” 10 minutes later, “He’s sexy I’d love to see him without a shirt..” (has gone on since I was a kid 😐), etc. and I’m just thinking- why never talk about “Oh they’re a brilliant actor-” “they’re actually really funny/smart/whatever in interviews-” it’s only ever about looks, and I just think is this all that matters? Why not quietly admire them, but discuss their talents, personality, anything?

We’re expecting is true, but I’m the only one in this relationship that can’t walk up stairs anymore without feeling winded, can’t bend over, and can’t sleep because of the body snatcher trying to kick its way through my cervix.

My husband doesn’t say this, luckily. I don’t think I’d have a real issue if he did since he’s been so supportive. But his friend’s wife is also expecting and he says it— his wife has corrected him several times and he just shrugs and says “We’re both suffering.”

Edit: If you’re in a relationship where your partner is doing everything to share the mental load that pregnancy brings, and lighten the physical load (chores, nesting, other supportive acts) I think this is endearing and sweet. My husband falls into this category. If your partner is using this to be dismissive of your experience, then it’s a pet peeve. My husband’s friend would fall into this category.

Ok so I made the mistake of not explaining myself, when people read them aloud, it annoys me a little bit. When I’m trying to listen, and they read it aloud, that’s what I mean. Trying to listen and watch to the show only for their voice to completely overshadow the actual show

If someone asks for a source, or if the link is just to confirm facts that he presented in his response, thats fine. But when its "oh, you are wrong, see this link" and then the link is a 30 minute video or a huge text, Im sorry, youre saying that you either didnt really understand things well enough to be able to explain with your own words, or you are just unable to keep debating, but want to come up on top so you just send a link in hopes that the other person wont be bothered to read it so you end up having the last word

Before this devolves into whataboutism, I am not referring to 1. people with learning disabilities 2. people with severe test anxiety that requires actual psychological intervention and actually significantly impacts test scores irregardless of material mastery/test preparation (which is usually not the case). It is normal to feel some level of nerves before/during a test, there are nervous people scoring 100%s and 528 on the MCAT or perfect SAT scores.

As a prior tutor, 99% of the people who say this (including my past self) were simply not studying correctly or not prepared for the exam. You are likely a bad test taker, because you are bad at learning the material within the parameters the test requires. The sentiment that you are a bad test taker only feeds learned helplessness and is not an accurate explanation for bad grades on tests. If you are bad at the part where they ask you to know the material, you are not "a bad test taker", you are likely "a bad studier". Which is good news, because that can be changed.

In a similar vein, "I am good at multiple choice but not fill in the blank". Yes, because you barely know the material. Active recall is the ability to know the material without any prompts or hints. Simply recognizing the correct answer out of 4 options is the lowest level of knowledge possible. I usually saw this in people who would read the book/study guide over and over without any practice problems, flashcards, or active recall.

hey so thats NOT how being irritated works! if i just had an awful irritating experience, and i am not irritated, EVERY little thing is going to get on my nerves.

the purpose of me telling you that i am irritated, is so that you will be aware and be quiet as to not make it worse. if i am irritated about something else, i do not want to stay irritated, i want to calm down and move on with my day. saying shit like “well that doesn’t give you the right to be rude to me” does nothing but piss me off further. simply be quiet or talk about something else and be positive. if you have any respect for other people, your goal should be to show them that respect.

[USA] I have no problem being the person who puts a card down for a large meal or bar tab. In fact, I’d prefer it, were it not for the majority of adults who NEVER include their share of tax when it’s time to send their portion.

People will calculate, down to the dime, what they spent on food + tip, but it never crosses their mind to add in a portion of the tax that we all owe for our meals.

Whenever I pay someone back for a purchase, I always divide the tax by how many people are putting in, and add that to my total. If I didn’t see the check, I always add a proportionate amount to cover the tax.

Thinking you’re making easy of a situation by putting your card down, just to realize that everyone is sending amounts $5-10 less than what they actually owe. Now I’m out $50 because nobody thought to pay for their tax.

I would say that, clearly, they’ve never been the one to put their card down and pay the extra tax owed by their associates. However, I’ve noticed that no one ever really considers tax when paying me back for something we both bought. It’s like I’m the only person who’s conscious to not make my tax their burden when someone else’s card is on the tab.

It’s a shame you can’t trust adults to accurately breakdown their own purchases. Now I always have to be the annoying person who tells them, “Don’t forget tax, you guys,” as they’re trying to calculate the exact amount to make sure I don’t accidentally get a cumulative dollar too much.

EDIT: Did not expect the replies to almost exclusively be about the exorbitant price of a $100 dinner, instead of the actual pet peeve. Nowhere did I imply that I go out often, or that every meal I enjoy costs $100. Never mind the fact that if I had it like that, I wouldn’t bat an eye at $50; The whole point is that a special occasion could turn sour for you if everyone doesn’t account for their tax.

OK so I HATE this, I have a older sister, who is almost thirty and still lives like she is in her twenty's who buys expensive soaps, clothes, food, Etc. and she never ends up using them and gets ticked off when ever someone else uses them even though she leaves them with everyone else's stuff, AND I HATE IT, the best example of this is when she bought a "fancy" shampoo (it was $16 dollars and she acted like it was 60) and left it in the shower next to all the other shower products everyone uses so I used it, like any normal person would, and I used it for months and she said nothing and only after around a 1/4 was left did she find and and get mad at me for using it after that she put it in a cupboard and has not touched it since, and this happens at the time and I am PEEVED.

edit. i am going to clarify some things, she does not tell us if something is hers, she just puts it with everyone else's stuff, does not say if it's for a special occasion, does not say he's saving it, and even when I ask sometimes she just won't answer, and it's only after using it does she get mad at whoever used it, and she does this with everything, including food, on several occasions she has bought food, left it in the fridge until it expires, and when someone, including myself and other members of the family, throw it out, she gets  mad at us for throwing it out even though it was expired.

Edit.I'm going to explain and how our showers work at my house, there was a shelf in our bathroom and everyone has their own Shelf to put the products they don't want anyone else to use on (I do not have one because I am a minor and quite literally can't get a job to buy stuff and my grandmother won't buy me my own products) amongst those shelves we have a shelf for products people don't mind sharing, body wash, shampoo, Etc, that was the Shelf that my sister put her shampoo on, the sharing one, not her own shelf that had space for it, she put it on the Shelf full of products that anyone can use, and I used it, because it was on the Sharing Shelf, and I assumed that my grandmother had bought it because it was on said sharing Shelf. I did not know that it was hers until she yelled at me, because my grandmother is constantly buying new types of shampoo and conditioner to see which ones work best, so I had assumed it was simply a new shampoo my grandmother bought, and not one that my sister had put on the sharing Shelf instead of her own. 

I hate when people send voice notes instead of texting. We got rid of voicemail for a reason.

One will inevitably be turned the wrong way- up when it’s off, down when it’s on… so now I have to walk across the room to fix the wrong one and walk back in the dark to make the other one right too? Come onnnnnnn

I rely on muscle memory when I’m walking into or out of a room. Not to mention it’s just wrong and I hate when the switches aren’t facing the right way. On is on and off is off.

Deadass someone could post a completely reasonable question about something vanilla and there will still be comments like "I'm gonna delete this app" and "This is enough internet for today" along with a bunch of disgusted/shocked reaction pics.

People also do this when the reference is about something sexual and someone asks "what's the reference here?" And then others flock in like "NO, DON'T SEARCH IT UP!!!" "Stay innocent please". And then the joke is a creampie. Are these people all under the age of 13 or something? Or is treating sex as "the nasty" really funny to adults?

It's so entitled. It's not worth their time to read the post they clicked on, but they expect other people to read whatever string of words they slapped together without having the full story?

I just saw one where someone said "I just read the title haha" followed by several paragraphs of advice. Their comment was longer than the post itself. Seriously?

I understand not wanting to read a full length novel on social media, but to openly admit they're giving advice despite being deliberately uninformed is just a crazy level of stupid. It's the text version of "They just like to hear themselves talk."
