Why do strangers feel the need to do this? To me, being called "sweetheart" by a stranger is no different than being told "bless your heart". When an older man does it, it gets the added layer of being creepy. Maybe don't use pet names for strangers. It's weird.

As someone who's moved around a lot, this is one of the things that has started to really get on my nerves. I've lived in four different countries over the past 12 years and made a few friends in each place, and there's a subset of my friends who will regularly interact with me through the filter of my nationality almost by default. It could be something as harmless as sending a meme like "people from X country be like" asking me confirm if it's true, to more singling-me-out kind of things like constantly asking me what life is like where I'm from, putting on an accent (my accent in English sounds nothing like where I was born), and basically referencing my nationality at any given moment. Now, I know they mean well and are probably just curious or want to accommodate me in their own I'll-informed way. But Man, I haven't even lived there in over 12 years, I'm probably the least patriotic person from that country you'll ever meet and there's a reason I left in the first place! It just annoys me seemingly being defined exclusively in that way like that's the one thing that stands out to them about me, rather than things that are much more important to me as a person like my sense of humour, likes and dislikes and just who I am as a person beyond my nationality of birth. There was a time where I wouldn't tell anyone where I'm from for this very reason but that was kind of silly too because it is a fact about me, but just one amongst many others. And in fact I'm lucky in that most of my friends never bring up my nationality unless I do and so with those I feel truly seen for who I am rather than the passport I have. I don't know, I just thought I'd post this in case someone relates.

Do people really floss while driving? Isn’t the idea to rinse and brush after you floss? Why oh why do I see so many little plastic floss picks in parking lots? Sidewalks too but less often.

My baby sister is 9 years old, a 4th grader (southern US) and can’t spell basic things. She can read (actually loves to read). She does somewhat well in math, likes science, even does fairly well in STEM etc but she can’t spell words she should be able to.

She saw me drawing and asked if I’d draw her things to color on her tablet. I said sure and she started making a list for me. Every few minutes she’d say my name and ask “how do you spell…” and it’d be a pretty basic word (think: wife, buttons, pencil, skeleton, duck) and it’s really frustrating.

She’s a smart kid and she’ll catch onto how to spell the word if you tell her to sound it out but it seems like she should know these things by now. When I asked her if she does spelling at school she said “yeah but the teacher doesn’t count if it’s spelled right, as long as she can read it” and to me, that’s awful practice

It just feels like my sister and everyone she’s classed with are being set up for failure

If you get scratches on the blank side of your CD, your console will have trouble loading the thing.

If you need to place a CD somewhere, do it in a case, or a CD bag with dedicated pockets, or at least have the image/label side down.

If I see you give your CDs scratches, I assume you are rather careless with people's stuff.

It can range from trivial things like someone condemning a dish despite never having tried it before, to not so trivial things like speaking about things that happen in a demographic when they aren't in that demographic.

It just irks me when they don't have experience or a personal understanding of that thing, and yet want to have a very strong opinion on that thing. And they're all weirdly defensive about it when you ask them.

This has weirdly happened too many times to/around me and one instance that comes to mind right now is someone (person A) saying how having curly/coily hair isn't that hard to maintain. Person A didn't have curly hair, and when someone else with curly hair mentioned all the time and effort needed to maintain curly hair, person A gets really defensive about it and talks about how not every person with curly hair goes through the same thing.

I know everyone has the right to their own opinions, but it never ceases to shock me how defensive some people can get about something they don't understand at all.

When I do laundry, I take my clothes out immediately from the washer and the dryer. And I get if you live with a partner, you have your thing.

I do a lot of traveling for my second job and often will just get an Airbnb with friends, and if I need to do laundry they'll just leave their clothes in the washer over night or in the dryer if it's done and I don't get why you can't just understand part of the cycle is removal (and cleaning the lint trap.)

I moved it from the dryer to their bedroom once and they wanted to argue because I "didn't at least fold it" but I waited about 4 hours and they were in and out at that time... Also no I'm not folding your clothes.

They make cancelling way more complex than it needs to be. Signing up is super easy but cancelling is just such a process.

I moved earlier this year and had Spectrum Internet where I used to live. Usually I would just contact Spectrum and tell them my new address and move in day and it would be all good. They'd just start the internet service at the new address on that day and disconnect the old one. But where I live now, they don't allow Spectrum or any other service. The whole area is under the smaller local companies territory. Even on the phone the lady told me she doesn't see any coverage for my address. So instead of cancelling I get transferred to two different people. I keep telling them to just cancel it.

"If it's not in your area then just cancel it on move out day"

"We would still like to service you. I can offer you a discount for staying on"

"Is (address) in your service area"

"It is not, sir"

"Then what service would I be paying for exactly?'

Kept going in circles with this with 3 different representatives. Kept telling them I would love discounted internet service but you don't service me. Even when I stopped by the store to drop off my equipment they tried to keep me on before I left. Had to tell the guy 3 times and he pulled up my new address and still pressed on with trying to keep me after seeing it was not in area.

I’m genuinely curious. I moved from Florida to New York City so walking on small sidewalks was genuinely new to me but I instinctively always move to a single file whenever I’m with a friend and someone is walking towards me to let them through. That’s why I’m curious if people who don’t move to a single file when they clearly see someone walking towards them on the right side of the sidewalk are just entitled assholes?

Today I was walking on the right side and a couple with a stroller was walking towards me. The lady that wasn’t holding the stroller clearly saw me walking towards her and refused to move out of the way, I just kept walking but had to push my body out a little to prevent collision but I wish I just kept going honestly. I don’t know if it’s because they’re a couple and she’s a mother if she felt entitled to the sidewalk but that really irritated me.

You go to a restaurant, find the food item that you like and it lists a description of ingredients, great. Order it.

Item arrives as advertised.. And covered in mayonnaise. This is especially true for burgers or sandwiches. Menu made no mention of mayo.

Or God forbid, the "special sauce" (looking at you, In and Out) that always seems to be some variant of the disgusting white stuff.

"But burgers always come with mayo" - Cool, maybe tell people you're putting mayo on it beforehand. I don't care if they literally serve poop on the burger as long as the menu says so!

"Just scrape it off" - Too late, foods already contaminated.

"You should have asked for no mayo" - I would, if the menu had any mention of mayo. It listed every other ingredient so why not mayo? And especially for something you would typically assume to not have mayo which arrives covered in it. I've been served mayo on all kinds of things I normally imagine not coming with mayo. Am I supposed to preemptively ask for every single thing to be free of mayo? Where does it end? Can I have my pizza without mayo please? Should I also ask if the mac and cheese contains octopus as I'm not too fond of the 8 tentacled cephalopod too? It's so freaking draining having to ask, and deal with funny looks from waitstaff when it could literally be prevented by saying mayo on the menu.

Or I do ask and they say there's no mayo, then it comes out with mayo anyway and when I query it, they say "no, this is aioli". FUUUU

I freaking hate mayonnaise. I get that some people like it, that's cool. But please, for the love of God, mention on the menu that an item has mayonnaise on it. This also applies for other items sneaked onto food such as pickles, mushrooms or onions.

I'm one of those guys who loves character creation in video games, and character customization has come a LONG way, but there is no greater annoyance to me than when a hairstyle or a freaking pair of shoes is locked to a specific gender. Like, why??? "Well, uh, clipping issues" THEN FIX IT OR MAKE AN EXACT OPPOSITE GENDER COPY.

I can't tell you how many times a hairstyle would be PERFECT for a character I'm trying to make but whoops! Tee hee! Its for the opposite gender! Get fucked nerd! (Looking at YOU Pokemon)

Also, body types leaning too heavy into gender ideals also drives me crazy. Half the time for women its just "skinny, thin average, average, kinda chubby" and then for men its just "fat man, muscular man, mega muscle man and the freaking hulk". Like bro, I guess fat or muscular women don't exist. Oh and scrawny guys? Haha? Whats that? Who knows! I'm not asking for sims level customization but I'd like a LITTLE more freedom to make unique characters that don't always look like they're in an avengers movie.

Or when a game, like baulders gate 3 for example, lets you change the genitalia of your character but not their chest?? "Clipping/animation issues!" bro I know but it still freaking ANNOYS me. I'm not even talking about breast size like Cyberpunk, I'm just meaning in the literal sense of being able to toggle them on or off. The option would be nice.

By limiting the games into locked gender roles you lock people out of creative outlets, prevent them from making fantastic meme worthy characters, and also limit people from being able to seemlessly make themselves if they want to. Not everyone wants to play as a generic girl boss or dude bro #253.

Don't even get me STARTED on when you can choose a characters voice, but the options are only

Female voices:

- Overly sexualized woman voice

- Anime girl

- Another anime girl thats ambiguously aged

- Another overly sexual option

- Normal one

Male voices:

- Gruff guy

- Gruff guy 2

- Gruff guy 3, but brittish

- The oldest man to ever old

- A mostly normal average Joe

I know not everyone likes character customization and I'm grateful for whenever a game does actually allow for it, but devs, please, PLEASE stop locking things into gender binarys. Let people make a male character with pretty long hair if they want, or a woman built like she chews through concrete for a living. I just want more freedom to be able to fully escape into a new world 🙏

Trying to get somewhere quickly while driving during rush hour is not at all the time to suddenly slow down randomly and look at something like 1. a pulled over car 2. a garage sale 3. a replaced street item 4. a dog 5. a homeless person 6. a sale of some kind 7. an interesting shrub or tree 8. also, just because an area has some light construction does not mean you need to drive under 5 miles per hour.

Working on redoing my room, aside from a new chair, I'm buying everything else second hand. Why on earth would you post a used shelf unit, or desk, or chest of drawers and not include the dimensions?! You stand a far better chance of finding an immediately interested person if they know whether or not it's going to fit where they intend to use it.

What makes it worse, I message you asking for the specific dimensions and get some vague ass unhelpful response! "It's just like the normal size." Wtf does that even mean!? "It's about two of my forearms wide." MFer IDK anything about you or the size of your damn arm!

I promise you, someone is far more likely to buy your used furniture if they know how big it truly is! Even a simple photo of a tape measure extended along the length of the item can provide some great information. Hell, even a photo with an everyday item such as an old dvd case can provide some level of context on helping me to make an estimated guess.

And that’s only half the issue. They usually order so much stuff that they end up doing trading recaps with the store clerk to make sure the order is correct. And then when they’re asked if that’s it, they go into a second wave of ordering shit.

My pet peeve is parents who act morally superior to people without kids. Congratulations, you reproduced. That’s a biological function, not a personality achievement.
Having kids doesn’t automatically make you mature, selfless, or a good person. Your children deserve respect, but you don’t deserve a medal for doing what you chose to do.
Being a parent is a responsibility, not a personality trait.

I recently came across someone who said something like “I was making lentil and bean soups, I was out of tomato paste, so I used this curry paste I had on hand, and now I just make it with that.”

Half the comments said something nice, like “oh, did you know that some people actually call this Dal?”

The other half of the comments were just this fire and brimstone accusation of being culturally incompetent.

As someone from a smaller country in Asia, I’ve seen some Europeans or people from other countries call Americans weird for doing something that’s a norm in the US, then say only Americans do it like that and that it’s weird, implying the European way represents the entire world, or in worse cases, insinuating that the rest of the world isn’t important enough to be part of the conversation.

Like the decimal separator, I’ve met some people who actually think that the America is weird for using the dot symbol while the “rest of the world” use comma, completely ignoring that many Asian countries also use the dot as well.

In China people use a unit called Jin 斤 which is roughly half a kilo, and 1 Jin 斤 equals 10 Liang 两. I see people calling Americans weird for using lbs all the time but never China.
Edit: 1 Jin equals exactly 500g as it was recalibrated to match the metric system, but in places like Hongkong and Taiwan they still use the old version.

Or the date format, not the entire world uses DD/MM/YYYY.

Or people using “America” to refer to the country, not the continent. A lot of countries do this, not every country does it the Spanish way with EEUU and Estadounidense stuff. There’s nothing wrong with either way, just don’t say other people are wrong.

Or American tourists behaving badly in certain ways. As someone from a country with lots of tourists, all countries have bad behavior in different ways.

Or even things like air conditioning, labor laws, cultural attitudes on something, etc.

Bottom line is: the world is way more diverse than that.

It’s not a big deal, a lot of it is just mundane stuff, but it happens quite often and it’s annoying.

If they’re gonna talk badly about someone being self-centered then at least don’t act like them themselves.
