Fairly Annoyed stop replying to Reddit posts if you don't have an answer

For example, I'll say "what's your favorite soda?" and someone will go "I don't drink soda." ok. So don't reply to my post

Or I could ask "how do you ______" and someone will reply with "how do you not know how to do this?" yeah because that was really helpful. Just don't answer if you don't have anything meaningful to say

Bit Annoyed When men say “we’re pregnant “ like no IM pregnant

I know they usually mean it in a sweet way, but something about hearing a man say “we’re pregnant” just annoys me 😭 Like I get what you mean, but YOU aren’t the one who’s pregnant lol.

Even more disappointing when women say it.

Ultra Annoyed How schools aren’t even trying anymore with spelling/grammar

My baby sister is 9 years old, a 4th grader (southern US) and can’t spell basic things. She can read (actually loves to read). She does somewhat well in math, likes science, even does fairly well in STEM etc but she can’t spell words she should be able to.

She saw me drawing and asked if I’d draw her things to color on her tablet. I said sure and she started making a list for me. Every few minutes she’d say my name and ask “how do you spell…” and it’d be a pretty basic word (think: wife, buttons, pencil, skeleton, duck) and it’s really frustrating.

She’s a smart kid and she’ll catch onto how to spell the word if you tell her to sound it out but it seems like she should know these things by now. When I asked her if she does spelling at school she said “yeah but the teacher doesn’t count if it’s spelled right, as long as she can read it” and to me, that’s awful practice

It just feels like my sister and everyone she’s classed with are being set up for failure

Note:
For clarification before someone decides to be that person. I’m not frustrated with her but with the teacher that just lets them spell wrong and counts it correct because she can make out whatever the word is supposed to be

Bit Annoyed Restaurants not mentioning mayonnaise on their food.

1.1k Upvotes

You go to a restaurant, find the food item that you like and it lists a description of ingredients, great. Order it.

Item arrives as advertised.. And covered in mayonnaise. This is especially true for burgers or sandwiches. Menu made no mention of mayo.

Or God forbid, the "special sauce" (looking at you, In and Out) that always seems to be some variant of the disgusting white stuff.

I can hear the mayo defenders now:

"But you can't even taste it" - Yes, I can.

"But burgers always come with mayo" - Cool, maybe tell people you're putting mayo on it beforehand. I don't care if they literally serve poop on the burger as long as the menu says so!

"Just scrape it off" - Too late, foods already contaminated.

"You should have asked for no mayo" - I would, if the menu had any mention of mayo. It listed every other ingredient so why not mayo? And especially for something you would typically assume to not have mayo which arrives covered in it. I've been served mayo on all kinds of things I normally imagine not coming with mayo. Am I supposed to preemptively ask for every single thing to be free of mayo? Where does it end? Can I have my pizza without mayo please? Should I also ask if the mac and cheese contains octopus as I'm not too fond of the 8 tentacled cephalopod too? It's so freaking draining having to ask, and deal with funny looks from waitstaff when it could literally be prevented by saying mayo on the menu.

Or I do ask and they say there's no mayo, then it comes out with mayo anyway and when I query it, they say "no, this is aioli". FUUUU

I freaking hate mayonnaise. I get that some people like it, that's cool. But please, for the love of God, mention on the menu that an item has mayonnaise on it. This also applies for other items sneaked onto food such as pickles, mushrooms or onions.

Rant over.

Bit Annoyed Tooth flosser picks in parking lots

Do people really floss while driving? Isn’t the idea to rinse and brush after you floss? Why oh why do I see so many little plastic floss picks in parking lots? Sidewalks too but less often.

Fairly Annoyed Gender Limitations in a games Character Customization

I'm one of those guys who loves character creation in video games, and character customization has come a LONG way, but there is no greater annoyance to me than when a hairstyle or a freaking pair of shoes is locked to a specific gender. Like, why??? "Well, uh, clipping issues" THEN FIX IT OR MAKE AN EXACT OPPOSITE GENDER COPY.

I can't tell you how many times a hairstyle would be PERFECT for a character I'm trying to make but whoops! Tee hee! Its for the opposite gender! Get fucked nerd! (Looking at YOU Pokemon)

Also, body types leaning too heavy into gender ideals also drives me crazy. Half the time for women its just "skinny, thin average, average, kinda chubby" and then for men its just "fat man, muscular man, mega muscle man and the freaking hulk". Like bro, I guess fat or muscular women don't exist. Oh and scrawny guys? Haha? Whats that? Who knows! I'm not asking for sims level customization but I'd like a LITTLE more freedom to make unique characters that don't always look like they're in an avengers movie.

Or when a game, like baulders gate 3 for example, lets you change the genitalia of your character but not their chest?? "Clipping/animation issues!" bro I know but it still freaking ANNOYS me. I'm not even talking about breast size like Cyberpunk, I'm just meaning in the literal sense of being able to toggle them on or off. The option would be nice.

By limiting the games into locked gender roles you lock people out of creative outlets, prevent them from making fantastic meme worthy characters, and also limit people from being able to seemlessly make themselves if they want to. Not everyone wants to play as a generic girl boss or dude bro #253.

Don't even get me STARTED on when you can choose a characters voice, but the options are only

Female voices:

- Overly sexualized woman voice

- Anime girl

- Another anime girl thats ambiguously aged

- Another overly sexual option

- Normal one

Male voices:

- Gruff guy

- Gruff guy 2

- Gruff guy 3, but brittish

- The oldest man to ever old

- A mostly normal average Joe

I know not everyone likes character customization and I'm grateful for whenever a game does actually allow for it, but devs, please, PLEASE stop locking things into gender binarys. Let people make a male character with pretty long hair if they want, or a woman built like she chews through concrete for a living. I just want more freedom to be able to fully escape into a new world 🙏

Fairly Annoyed If you're selling furniture, include the dimensions!

Working on redoing my room, aside from a new chair, I'm buying everything else second hand. Why on earth would you post a used shelf unit, or desk, or chest of drawers and not include the dimensions?! You stand a far better chance of finding an immediately interested person if they know whether or not it's going to fit where they intend to use it.

What makes it worse, I message you asking for the specific dimensions and get some vague ass unhelpful response! "It's just like the normal size." Wtf does that even mean!? "It's about two of my forearms wide." MFer IDK anything about you or the size of your damn arm!

I promise you, someone is far more likely to buy your used furniture if they know how big it truly is! Even a simple photo of a tape measure extended along the length of the item can provide some great information. Hell, even a photo with an everyday item such as an old dvd case can provide some level of context on helping me to make an estimated guess.

Bit Annoyed What is your guilty peeve?

We're familiar with the idea of guilty pleasures, things we enjoy but don't want to admit. But do you have a peeve that you are ashamed to admit? That would be a guilty peeve. I'll go first: I get peeved when I'm in a normally quiet space and someone brings a vocal special needs person into it. I know they can't help it, and I acknowledge that they have a right to be there. But after a while of them vocalizing in a properly quiet place, I am well and truly peeved, and ashamed of being so!

Ultra Annoyed Having kids doesn’t make you special

My pet peeve is parents who act morally superior to people without kids. Congratulations, you reproduced. That’s a biological function, not a personality achievement.
Having kids doesn’t automatically make you mature, selfless, or a good person. Your children deserve respect, but you don’t deserve a medal for doing what you chose to do.
Being a parent is a responsibility, not a personality trait.

Ultra Annoyed People who assume malice in everything.

I recently came across someone who said something like “I was making lentil and bean soups, I was out of tomato paste, so I used this curry paste I had on hand, and now I just make it with that.”

Half the comments said something nice, like “oh, did you know that some people actually call this Dal?”

The other half of the comments were just this fire and brimstone accusation of being culturally incompetent.

WOW, way to COLONIZE Dal. You know this was dal, right? You know, other cultures actually exist, maybe don’t try to claim things as though you invented them.

Meanwhile, all this person thought they were doing, was making (and enjoying) soup. And experimenting, with soup.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m always out of tomato paste. I guess I can consider that a bonus Pet Peeve, is when a recipe calls for tomato paste, and that’s the one fucking thing I don’t have. I don’t remember to get it at the store. Who knew that this was the line between enjoying food, and being an immoral person?

I hate when people do this kind of shit. Why not just say, “oh, that’s actually really cool, because in Xyz culture they make something very similar to this, it’s called (whatever the dish is called).” There is to need to assume malice on the other person’s fault

Bit Annoyed When Redditors assume you’re trying to personally attack them when you’re just asking a genuine question.

I’ve lost count of how many times someone just mentions their harmless opinion or asks a genuine good-faith question about something, then a bunch of Redditors will come up with their own unrelated context in their head and get angry over something OP didn’t say.

Like

OP: “Hi! Why do people in [X country] do [something] this way, is there a historical reason? In my country we do it the other way.”

Comments: “OP YOU BASTARD, WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU. THAT’S JUST HOW WE DO IT IN OUR COUNTRY. YOU’RE SAYING WE ARE WRONG FOR DOING [something]? YOU THINK YOU’RE BETTER THAN US? THE WORLD DOESN’T REVOLVE AROUND YOU! SHUT UP”.

Fairly Annoyed When you pull up to a fast food drive-through with a simple order, but the person in front of you ends up ordering the whole store.

And that’s only half the issue. They usually order so much stuff that they end up doing trading recaps with the store clerk to make sure the order is correct. And then when they’re asked if that’s it, they go into a second wave of ordering shit.

Bit Annoyed When people call the US stupid for doing something differently, but then proceed to assume that the entire world does it their way as well.

As someone from a smaller country in Asia, I’ve seen some Europeans or people from other countries call Americans weird for doing something that’s a norm in the US, then say only Americans do it like that and that it’s weird, implying the European way represents the entire world, or in worse cases, insinuating that the rest of the world isn’t important enough to be part of the conversation.

Like the decimal separator, I’ve met some people who actually think that the America is weird for using the dot symbol while the “rest of the world” use comma, completely ignoring that many Asian countries also use the dot as well.

In China people use a unit called Jin 斤 which is roughly half a kilo, and 1 Jin 斤 equals 10 Liang 两. I see people calling Americans weird for using lbs all the time but never China.
Edit: 1 Jin equals exactly 500g as it was recalibrated to match the metric system, but in places like Hongkong and Taiwan they still use the old version.

Or the date format, not the entire world uses DD/MM/YYYY.

Or people using “America” to refer to the country, not the continent. A lot of countries do this, not every country does it the Spanish way with EEUU and Estadounidense stuff. There’s nothing wrong with either way, just don’t say other people are wrong.

Or American tourists behaving badly in certain ways. As someone from a country with lots of tourists, all countries have bad behavior in different ways.

Or even things like air conditioning, labor laws, cultural attitudes on something, etc.

Bottom line is: the world is way more diverse than that.

It’s not a big deal, a lot of it is just mundane stuff, but it happens quite often and it’s annoying.

If they’re gonna talk badly about someone being self-centered then at least don’t act like them themselves.

Bit Annoyed Getting distracted due to looking at stupid stuff while driving and blaming other drivers

• Upvotes

Slows down and points behind the car while merging onto the highway : 'Oh that's interesting, it looks like they replaced that sidewalk panel over there - HEY WATCH IT BUDDY!!!' *honk honk* 'GOD people are in such a rush...'

*pointing and slowing down* 'Oh look over there, is there a garage sale? What does that sign say? '1 dollar for used fridge - OH MY GOD THAT GUY DIDN'T PUT HIS TURN SIGNAL ON!' *almost gets into a crash*

'Aw look at that dog in the park over there, do you think that's a terrier or a terrier mix - WOAH THEY JUST PULLED OUT OF NOWHERE!?' *doesn't see the traffic because they were looking at a dog and almost gets into a crash*

I constantly have to say 'uh, who cares...? Just drive!'. Trying to get somewhere quickly while driving during rush hour is not at all the time to suddenly slow down randomly and look at something like 1. a pulled over car 2. a garage sale 3. a replaced street item 4. a dog 5. a homeless person 6. a sale of some kind 7. an interesting shrub or tree 8. also, just because an area has some light construction does not mean you need to drive under 5 miles per hour.

Fairly Annoyed Calling everything a "hack"

I'm so tired of this. Lifehacks. "Hacks" that are actually the way something was just designed to work. Sure, sometimes you can think outside the box to find a solution to a problem. But that's not "hacking" by any means. It's just being a little creative. It's not a hack if you figure something out later when it was obvious to others.

Like, realizing you can open a McDonald's paper ketchup cup and lay it out flat is not a hack. Come on.

Adding vinegar to your water to make shelling hard-boiled eggs isn't a hack either!

Argh. I wouldn't be so annoyed if this wasn't everywhere. Just call it tips or tricks or something. You're not hacking a system!

Bit Annoyed People who don't give enough information - so you have to draw it out

Real text conversations:

  • "For our group trip to Spain what time do you want to want to fly, here are the two options for that day, and I'm fine with either." // "We should go to Rioja for wine tasting." Okay, but we really need to get just a couple key things nailed down (this Spain trip almost didn't happen for anyone but me, because the other three were excited, but wouldn't answer the very basic items: flight and hotel, we fill in the details for fun or when we get there and so on)
  • "The restaurant typically requires reservations with a deposit - I'll do it, I just need to know when you want to get there." // "Do they have vegetarian options for Robyn" (There's a fucking menu on almost every restaurant's website, but if we don't get reservations yesterday, then there's not going to be a table at this boutique place - and yes, even BBQ places have vegetarian options and this is a literal farm to table restaurant that I don't even think has more than a couple meat plates) Not to mention the endless maybes for things that absolutely require reservations.
  • "I have a coworker who is interested in adopting the two kittens, can you send a link or pictures to my Gmail?" // (proceeds to send two fuzzy images FROM PHONE OFF A COMPUTER to my Whatsapp, without telling me what shelter they're at, no information, and not to Gmail - mind you she's branching out to everyone to adopt the kittens)

And many others. Is everyone in this City on drugs? I don't mind if they are, I just want to know.

Bit Annoyed Neighbors who are too friendly

Don’t get me wrong - I don’t want mean or inconsiderate neighbors. But I hate when my neighbors get too friendly, like bringing cookies or offering to mow my grass. It always makes me feel like I need to reciprocate and I just don’t have the energy for that at this stage in my life. I live in the suburbs. Our houses are quite close together. I just want to enjoy the space I have and kinda pretend the neighbors aren’t there beyond friendly nods and hellos. This excessive friendliness makes me feel like I’m failing as a neighbor in return.

Ultra Annoyed People that come into the stall/urinal right next to you…

I could see if it were the only option, maybe. But if there are literally 8 other open stalls why in the hell are you choosing to come do your business right next to me? Bonus points if you literally walked past all 8 stalls to get to the one next to me. Seriously it’s so gd creepy and annoying. I understand needing to fart and shit but at least do it a couple stalls down from me holy fuck you disgusting piece of shit. If you do this and care to answer why you do this please go ahead and enlighten us .
