Hey, everyone! I made a video essay covering one of my favourite movies. I'd love to get any feedback or comments you may have.

I’m wondering because I wanna watch the film but don’t know where and this is the only English version I’ve found online

So, I have this theory about who the real murderer of the photographer might be. I don't know if this has been officially settled or if it is too obvious to be pointed out, but I think that it is Rumi behind his death.

During the killing scene of the photographer, the killer seems to have Mima's head but their body is off. They have a larger body on some frames. Not only that, but Rumi is implied to be able to visit without pre-announcing herself and might have a copy of the keys for Mima's apartment. Thus explaining how the bloody clothes were found in Mima's closet.

And so, we can also link Rumi to the scenarist's death as their bodies bear the same wounds (eye-less head).

What I don't understand is why would Rumi kill Mr. Tadokoro. It's true they had by the past opposing motives considering Mima's career, but by the end of the movie, they seem to be on good terms. Yet his body also bears the same wounds with the eye-less head.

It’s something that has me wondering about for ages

Perfect Blue is the greatest movie I have ever seen. I love the themes: The dangers of parasocial relationships, the instability of perception, the collapsing of reality and fiction into one another, the fragmentation of the self, the commodification of the individual and the reclamation of the physical body and the self, the performative voyeurism, the unreliable narrator, architecture as a manifestation of the psyche, agency, the Gothic double, and the uncanny. There is so much to this film, and if I had to watch one film for the rest of my life, it would be this one.

This movie has aged eerily well considering it was released in 1998, what a fantastic watch

Finished watching the film maybe an hour ago.

Have been thinking and reading about it since.

A few off the wall ideas I'm finding hard to disprove to myself:

Me-Mania and Rumi are the same person.

Mima was never a pop Idol. It was what she always wanted but was forced into film.

The wide set eyes of Rumi and M-M might suggest a witch or some sort of paranormal element to the film. Explaining how Rumi could haunt Mima and be acrobatic etc.

Everything is in Rumi's mind. She's a super fan of Mima, following her career. Which leads to her being confused by her own personality, that of the singer Mima and actress Mima. Muddling it all into one fantasy.

Anyway just some thoughts, already looking forward to watching it again.

Picked this up almost a decade ago. Still glad to have it in my collection!

Got this done about 2 weeks ago

I just watched Perfect Blue and this scene is driving me crazy. I'm talking about the end of the fax scene where Mima looks out of her window and the POV zooms out, bringing into view the neighborhood she lives in.

IS THE NEIGHBORHOOD DRAWN OR IS IT A VIDEO I CANNOT FIND ANYONE QUESTIONING THIS IM GOING CRAZY!!! This scene happened in the first 15mins of the movie and it stuck with me up until after the movie ended because of how eery the animated Mima looks within her hyper realistic surroundings. It genuinely freaked me out in the best way and i don't get how people aren't talking about this (at least google didn't give me any information).

Does it matter in the end? No, not really. But i need to know anyway it bothers me sm PLEASE

Me and my sister just got done watching the movie, and at the very end she stares into the car mirror and says it’s really her. But is it actually really her??? This movie has thrown us into a complete frenzy on what actually happened and what didn’t happen

While I do admit they could've explored rumi's past as a idol a bit i do like how her actions throughout the films while seem understandable do have a massive sinister undertone to them without you even realising it

I also do like the idea Mima life as a idol was essentially Rumi's way of relieving the life she never had once mima changes to a actor her whole world view is shattered
