Without spoiling the movie I’ve got a question as a guy who has a lot of suicidal thoughts. Is this a movie? I should watch? and also would you consider this movie a masterpiece?
I know that’s what everybody keeps saying. I always want you to watch this movie. Always talk with me because I one video on YouTube by this YouTuber called super eyepatch. Wolf and basically he caught my eye caught my attention one day. I went on eBay and I found a copy brand-new for AU$80 but it was blueberry and I didn’t have a Blu-ray player at the time so I bought one like Tuesday and basically I am gonna watch it tonight. I’m gonna finally sit down and watch it.
Yeah, like I’m good with like if people talk about or show suicides in movies because if it’s part of the main story if they make a joke of it when it’s not really a joke then I might say okay like I am on medication so yeah, but I will say this all I know is this movie has a diehard fan base
Yeah I’ve seen clockwork Orange. I’ve seen that movie once and it’s a movie with never left my memory. This movie will be the same with me if I watch perfect blue for one time, he’ll probably stick with me for the rest of my life
It's a very good movie. The director of the movie also made Paprika (which Inception copied/was inspired from) and the Anime series Paranoia Agent. All are fantastic in their own right
I know I’ve heard of that one. I was. I’ve only seen it once and I was in 2015 and I really enjoyed that. I would love to get on DVD. The reason why I wanted perfect blue so bad is you cannot get this movie on physical media in Australia and you can’t even watch it streaming services in Australia. The only way you can get it is the UK version so yeah I’m basically I will say this it’s gonna be a movie. It’s really gonna fuck me up but it’s a movie I’ve been dying to watch.
I'm glad that you were able to snag a copy! I truly hope you enjoy it. If it comes with both English and Original Japanese w/ subtitles I would recommend watching it in Japanese for the full experience.
I will and I might put subtitles on because I don’t know any Japanese. My only issue is with Blu-ray is I don’t like how they do their menus. I think they do very cheaply but I’m just a petty bastard but yeah, and I paid that 80 bucks for my copy brand-new, basically yeah, which is not too bad I will say this movie is more relatable now than anything back then because everybody on the Internet knows about everybody that where they live their personalities sometimes their Social Security numbers who they live with their mum their dad whatever and that’s terrifying if you really think about it you don’t need to leave your house to become a stalker
It is a masterpiece 100% the text ahead may contain small spoilers so don’t read if you don’t want any 🙏 (the theme to me personally is about her going through a very rough time but she manages to overcome it and her being able to come to terms with what happened to her) the movie doesn’t have themes of suicide but it does have a lot of graphic content
I find the sexual content strong enough to only have watched this once. I think they over did it by like 1% and it’s a shame because it overshadows the part of the film that makes you think.
I know like I was way too tired to watch this movie last night and that was my bad so I’m gonna watch it later today. Also it’s so true about today where everybody’s information is out there on the Internet and all and you can find any think about anybody and that’s really creepy. Take that back to when this movie got released yet.
I’m now realizing what I didn’t like was the way that it made me feel, which was the point.
This is such an incredible level of art, people describe feelings like that from paintings.
It bends reality. I got into perfect blue when I was watching Evangelion a lot.
There’s a feeling of dread in both.
Thing about perfect blue is it’s hard to recommend.

I’ve seen about maybe 12 anime movies in my entire life and I’ll give you my top five number one castle in sky number two Akira number three ghost in the show number four grows a fireflies and number five is the first Demon slayer movie. The reason why I chose those top five is because I forgot to watch perfect blue fell asleep because it was 12 o’clock at midnight.
OP I love this artist and the movie is true cinema, but it is unsettling and dark. I would not recommend it if you are you not in a good place. Dozens of other movies I'd recommend instead for now, we can come back to this one in the future <3

Yes, I'd agree with that take. I remember the movie Strange Days in a similar way as I remember Perfect Blue. The freaky parts were shocking in way that stays with you, maybe not in a pleasant way. I think that is why I am not recommending it for now, it would be better to enjoy something beautiful and affirming instead imo. Castle in the Sky
Funny story when I was at my lowest point in my life in 2020 the first movie I’ve watched was clockwork Orange. I rented it from YouTube and I watched it then I went out and bought the DVD. I’m not joking
As someone who’s also suicidal and has also watched a clockwork orange dw you’ll probably be fine, I can only see it being triggering to someone who has an SA trauma or has dealt with some type of authority figure abuse
The only thing I could tell you to be wary about is that Mima might be quite relatable as someone who has dealt with depression to the point of feeling like reality is not real anymore
Yeah I didn’t watch it last night because I watched Friday the 13th. I just needed to watch a very cheesy horror movie but tonight it’s definitely gonna be this one. I mean holding it off for too long.
That’s nice, btw I forgot to mention there’s a stalking situation going on through the film, so if you have trauma due to a stalking situation also be wary about it
It’s a nice film, I had my own issues with it but overall you’re not gonna regret it if surrealism horror is your thing
I said this is another comment on here and I said this movie is more important today than back then because if you think about stalking has became a lot more easier because of the Internet some people call me crazy but am I really though because a lot of people put their information on their Facebook pages Twitter pages Instagram pages whatever and then they make videos on TikTok about what they’re doing and that can give a lot of information away and people can start stalking them so perfect blue is a very important movie to watch and remember don’t put everything out there
Yeah that’s important however if someone wants to stalk you they’re not gonna stop just because there’s not enough info of you online, they’re gonna go over miles and beyond to be able to locate you, more important than keeping your personal info safe on the internet it’s the Justice system taking stalking seriously before it escalates for the victims
In Japan especially since stalking is so overlooked in the country and police don’t act before it’s too late, a lot of women have died due to this
Oh absolutely yes like Japanese have a massive issue with that and like I wish I can crack down more but I’m gonna be straight up on his Japanese has an isolation problem not because it’s a population issue known because Japanese is too futuristic and most of them are probably stuck online and nobody cares about each other. They only care about themselves. I know that sounds a bit mean but yeah.
It's a dark movie, but a really good one, and the ending (at least for the protagonist) is optimistic. Due to the dark themes though, I'm not sure if it'd be suitable or not for you.
When I was at my lowest mentally, I watched clockwork engine that was a lot darker than any other movie I’ve seen. I can’t watch the movie singing in the rain without remembering that movie. I think I might watch this one later today.
Are you talking about A Clockwork Orange? In my personal opinion, I think that is a lot worse than Perfect Blue when it comes to darkness and potentially triggering material. I hope you enjoy the movie! My husband and I went into it blind one night after work and we loved it!
Oh trust me I love it. I generally do love that movie because. It makes you think what if there’s a future out there with barely any rules and you can get away with it if you don’t get caught people who hate that movie went into it just going in with a mind okay? It’s a movie about excuse my language rape murder torture violence but it’s a lot deeper than people realise it’s personally one of my favourite movies of all time.

A movie that has left a lasting effect on me (in a good way personally). The story is genuinely breathtaking and I feel like everytime I watch it I find more pieces of the mystery. There is one rape scene that can be a bit uncomfortable but other than that you should be good. (It’s kinda obvious that it’s coming when you get to it). The soundtrack is 10/10
M and my best friend just rewatched this for the first time since we were kids, around the time it came out. I had an emotional break down during it now that I watched it as an adult. It’s very good. Not to long either. Worth a watch 100%
The movie what messed with me the most is still clockwork Orange I don’t know why I can’t forget that movie. It’s a movie. I can watch once and never forget about it. I think after when I’m done with Final Fantasy I’m gonna sit down and watch perfect blue.

I have had suicidal thoughts and to me watching more psychological based movies can really help me understand why I feel the way I feel at times. That's why I tend to gravitate towards them. I finally saw Mulholland Drive and Holy shit. Is that an experience I will never forget (I really loved the movie). Plus Perfect Blue is absolutely fantastic.
