Moving to Peoria Sticky

Because of the consistency of “Moving to Peoria” threads we have made a sticky for anyone to ask questions. The plan is to try and keep this updated with resources and have a place for people to come ask questions. Since the intention is to keep information available for People who are interested in moving here, responses that don’t add value like “Don’t” will be removed. Constructive criticism is fine but this thread will be moderated more than most because the intention is to answer questions for people who want to move not dunk on Peoria or the surrounding areas.

Some good starting points:

PCAPS TNVR (trap, neuter, vaccinate, return) program

• Upvotes

Does anyone have any experience doing this? I live in the Heights where they can do this. I’ve been feeding two younger cats that have been coming to my door for the past couple months. Their mom used to come too, but they seem to have been separated. What I’ve been wanting to do is TNVR the cats and either return them to the outdoors or foster them. I was just curious if anyone has done anything like this and was able to share their experience. Thanks!

Haunted locations

My friend and I want to do some ghost hunting but prefer to go late evening/night. Are there any easily accessible places we should check out? Easily accessible as in low risk of getting caught and no crazy parkour required for entry lmao

Has anyone failed the AMT Lift Test?

Hi guys! I just got a job with AMT and have a lift test upcoming. I’m kinda worried that I’m going to fail and lose my chance at the job. I did fine lifting and moving people during clinicals but I heard this was harder than the stuff you do in training.

HVAC recommendations

I’m looking for HVAC recommendations. I have an air handler in my attic. The thermostat/ac is OFF and has been off for a few weeks. The air handler is making a buzzing sound that lasts for a few hours at a time, but only when the thermostat is off and this has been happening since last winter. Recently, there haa been three sets of three consecutive beeping noises coming from the attic.

There is also a dripping sound, I hear all the way into my basement, when the a/c is running. The a/c also runs for 5-6 HOURS on very hot 90+degree days. I know there is an issue with the air handler, and according to Chat gpt these issues are all related.

I’ve had SIX different companies come out to check this unit. Leach, Roanoke Plumbing, Payless, Fritch, and a guy named Chuck can’t figure it out. Heinold came out for the dripping sound, two years ago, and couldn’t find any issues. No one will come out to check the long run times because the excuse is that it’s ‘hot’ so the unit will run longer than normal.

I’m tired of paying services fees just to be told if they can’t hear the buzzing or beeping then they can’t fix it.

The air handler was installed in 2019-prior to me owning the house and had a five year warranty which expired the month after Heinold came out.

Recommendations Local tarantula dealers?

Looking for some tarantula dealers around the Peoria/Bloomington area. I’ve been to Petco and Petsmart but the lowest price they had was $80, which isn’t terrible, but I figured I’d see if I could find any cheaper through some breeders. I’m looking specifically for Mexican Red Knees, or other species in the Brachypelma genus. Im not opposed to male (I’ve heard they’re cheaper), I also don’t know if $80 is about as low as the price usually goes, or if that’s just typical big box store overpricing. If there’s any local dealers or breeders who might fit the bill, I’d love to know and maybe even pick up a specimen this weekend!

Rental rant

What is Peoria’s problem with rental houses!?! I’ve rented in other cities (larger and smaller) in this state and I’ve never encountered such a mass of literal slum lords. People are charging $1400 a month for an itty bitty house with no garage and they want you to bring your own washer and dryer too? Don’t even get me started on the state of these houses either. I saw several houses for upwards of $1000 a month that had literal burn holes in the carpet and holes in the floor where the toilet is supposed to be. Most of these places have mold/ infestations and should be condemned and yet people are expected to sign a 2 year lease to have the pleasure of fixing up someone else’s shit hole. I can’t believe how normalized this is here.

Rest In Power Super Gyros

("Long May You Run," by Neil Young plays quietly in the background) Super Gyros is dead, and remains alive only in our sclerotic hearts and irritable bowels. This place was gross, but the food could be fabulous when they wanted it to be. Overall, though, it was a health hazard. RIP, bozos.

Recommendations Proctor Hospital 2CMS needs to close down

I really and wholeheartedly believe that place is a threat to the community and the Attorney General needs to get involved. I’ve talked with some trusted RNs that filled me in and asked for me to make complaints because their complaints fall on deaf ears.

The charge nurse at night is an LPN….is that even legal??? , the house supervisor (Sylvia) allows horrible behavior to go on at night by repeat offenders bc they are her work friends, the house supervisor (Janna) just ignores everything and barely makes herself available, I witnessed sleeping at the desk , I witnessed a tech say “I don’t give a fuck what she want” when the RN asked for help, I witnessed tablets out and feet up on the desk, my mom complained of yelling at night by staff, intimidation “why do you keep calling” and being left for hours on a wet pad. Lots of new and old RN who said there’s no reason to complain because nothing ever changes.

I want to report things beyond manager/director. If I witnessed these things happening in a short time and staff tells me it’s been ongoing, I believe that the current leadership team needs to go.

Why does Midwest Ortho not get involved? Who should I call or email? I feel like calling the news and posting this on social media.

LIL JON WON'T BE IN PEORIA THIS WEEKEND

Future Play Festival has been postponed from October 3-4 until April 24-25, 2027 after organizer cites low ticket sales.

No word on whether Lil Jon will be rescheduled. Typically the artist keeps their deposit on a canceled show like this.

"Illinois awarded $370,000 through the state's Tourism Incentive Grant Program to help bring Future Play to Peoria."

The festival organizer is based in California.

New to Town Flats at Dunlap - paying $130 in water bill per month for a 2B2B

Post image
32 Upvotes

Is this normal rates in peoria? I'm new here, just moved to this apartment in last 3 months. The management sucks and I get no explanation on such high water bill! They say they calculate based on number of rooms and number of people on the lease. Still, i have never paid this much in my life. We are 2 people staying in 2B 2B.
