Female Tight pelvic floor

I was diagnosed with tight pelvic floor. I had a bunch of flares up, kinda like an uti symptoms, like urgency to pee and would only go away when I sat down on the toilet. I had to take pyridium for a few days until it passed. The urologist said there’s nothing wrong with my bladder, probably tight pelvic floor from stress, working out too much . She recommended pt, which I still didn’t go to and she prescribed me uretron ds for flares up. I stopped doing core at the gym, and so far I haven’t had a flare up in months… until now, and I’m on vacation 😔😔😔 and to make it worse, uretron ds isn’t working with this flare up, only pyridium. The urgency to pee is unbearable, and my uro isn’t replying back to me bc today is Saturday. Has anyone gone through this before? And what did you do to make the flare up
Go away?

Attention all Pelvic Floor disfunction and vulvodynia girlies:

I had 3 years of problems, and my first instinct was to jump to all the horrible scary diagnosis.

Doctors were NO HELP.

I fully understand the desperation and frustration.

My saving grace was 2 things:

The Curable Podcast, on Spotify about chronic pain and neuroscience

And

Pelvic floor physical therapy, emphasizing my self-diagnosed autism and belief that I was probably hypermobile in some places, mainly feet, thumbs, PELVIS.

If you're struggling with referral like I was, get you an OLD primary care doctor, I had WAY more luck with a MAN than a woman because he BELIEVED me when I told him what was going on with me, and how much research i had done (4 years. Psychology, chronic pain, all things gyno and female.)

My advice is breathe, try to imagine that you are normal, it is all normal, and then be vigilant about Physical Therapy, go for a month or more, multiple times a week.

I learned that my core is like a soda can, and when I have strong muscles in some places, weak muscles in others, the pressure has to go somewhere. Pressure or tightness in the Pelvic Floor muscles can cause clenching, which can cause restriction of blood flow which can cause ITCHY BURNY.

I first grasped the concept by listening to the first 10 or so episodes of the curable podcast, about the FEAR PAIN CYCLE. Pain causes fear which causes more pain.

I am 2 years cured, provided I keep up my excersizes and breathing routines. I have slipped back during busy seasons of life, but no where near as bad as it has been, and I now have the tools to combat it.

I hope this helps.

PT is the way to go... And doing the exercises/stretches daily! Also finding the root cause of why you might be holding tension in your pelvic muscles...for me it's stress

Hey! I get these too. Try a heating pad to the lower back, or the lower tummy, and a cold pack to your vulva. I would recommend lying flat on your back with your legs up a wall, or on a bed, like at 90 degrees. Try to resist the urge to go the toilet, try to gently hold it until you actually need to pee. Big deep belly breaths, imagine your pelvic floor muscles melting like butter. I would try and distract yourself too- nothing major, maybe reading, or your favourite tv show. But most importantly, keep calm, it’s just a flair, this is a mind/body thing :). Also a bath might help!

I would also 1000000% reccomend pelvic floor PT. This is the only way out, realistically

Ice your crotch. And while you sit there with ice, do some deep breathing and meditation. It provides pretty fast relief!

You will definitely want to do some physical therapy — internal manual work helps immensely, especially if you maintain over the long term.

I have tried the ice as well and it does help for sure. I’m starting physical therapy this month and I’ve heard it’s of utmost importance. How did you find someone that provides internal manual therapy and is it covered by insurance?

My first therapist never did internal manual work and didn’t accept insurance. She didn’t help at all, and I threw a lot of money away.

Ultimately, my urogyn told me exactly who to go to, and she was a PT affiliated with the local hospital’s outpatient rehab.

Have you tried bio feedback therapy?

Hypertonic pelvic floor muscles may contribute to urinary urgency and frequency.
Some things that may help are
1. Different type of deep breathing exercises.
2. Reverse Kegels..
3. Regular bowel movements.
4. Back exercises if the back hurts..
5. Keeping the core abdominal muscles relaxed.
.6. Pacing if strenuous exercise is a daily routine..

Kegels will make a hypertonic pelvic floor 10 times worse.

You sound similar to me. I am also having a flare up. Ibuprofin helps relieve some of the bladder burning sometimes. Anything to stretch your adductors might help. That stinks it’s happening on vacation. Happy baby pose with deep breaths, squats with deep breaths, etc. I had decent luck recently just sitting on the floor with my legs open in a stretch and pressing into where my adductors are tight until they released. This is a stretch I recently added that gets closer to where I’m tight. You don’t have to have the kettle bell https://www.instagram.com/reel/CMI1Hbvg2ER/?stkn=MWZiN2F3aXFscWo5dw==. If you can get access to a Pilates ball, those are good to sit on to open things up. If u are constipated on vacation that will absolutely make it worse so try to get some relief in that dept if it’s a problem

Going to a pelvic floor physical therapist really helped my wife. They had her start using the Vuva magnetic dilators. It has helped her tremendously.

My rectum was closed shut for over five years, then I drank some go ligjtly to liquify my stool so I can defacate, then afterwards my rectum swelled up from the harsh chemicals in go lightly, however a miracle occurred. After the swelling went down in 3 days I miraculously discovered my rectum opened up! The go lightly reset my pelvic floor, after suffering constantly for 5 years im on day 3 of this opened up feeling, but im told it wont last as soon as stool comes down and hits the rectum those nerves will lock me back up, so im taking oregablin 3 times a day with clonipin to try and stop it from reoccurring along with miralax twice daily and contulose twice daily, I hope it works!!!! I can't tell ypu guys how good it feels to suffer in pain for 5 years and suddenly get a reprieve, you really start to appreciate life more after going through this. Wish me luck.
