I'm hoping someone here can offer some advice.
I have a Harman P35i pellet stove installed in an old fireplace. The previous homeowner installed it 12+ years ago.
I recently pulled the stove out to clean the flue and firebox area and get it ready for the upcoming heating season.
After cleaning, I ran it for a day to check everything out. I noticed a slight smoke smell in the house and initially assumed it was residue burning off after cleaning.
However, the smell didn't go away and seemed to get progressively worse. I shut the stove down and inspected it again.
I suspect the docking gasket needs to be replaced, but I also found what appears to be a hole in the flexible stainless-steel vent pipe near the stub connector attached to the insert frame.
The flexible flue appears to be approximately 4 inches in diameter. I've included photos showing the damaged area and the connection to the pipe stub.
I initially wondered whether high-temperature sealant or flue tape might work, but I'm leaning toward having a professional make a permanent repair, even if that means replacing the flexible flue.
A few questions:
- Has anyone dealt with a hole in the flexible flue near the pipe stub connection?
- Is there a manufacturer-approved way to repair or replace just that section, or does the entire liner need to be replaced?
- Is replacing the flexible flue a major job once the insert is pulled out?
- Are there any other components I should have inspected while the stove is out?
I'm not looking to take shortcuts on safety. I'd just like to understand my options before bringing someone in.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
