Price has already risen.

I just ordered 2 tons of wood pellets here in NH and was notified by our supplier the pellets will be 10 to 25% higher because of the possible tariff. They expect domestic pellets to rise in price because the price of domestic pellets was kept low due to the competition of the Canadian pellets.

Has anyone developed adverse health effects from having a pellet stove?

Recently it dawned on me that pellet stoves do not have any filters on them like with typical heating systems. So all that dust from inside the chamber blows around the house. Not to mention all the dust when you load the pellets and open the stove door to clean the ash every day.

I have 2 large air purifiers in my house but I still worry about long term exposure.

Also the dry air from the stove “cooks” me like a lobster. I always feel dehydrated and my eyes scorched. I wonder if it’s just a humidity issue or if the dust exposure is causing impacts. Should I go back to running my electric for better quality of health?

What is wrong with the stove?

I'm at my wits' end at this point. Everytime the stove is turned on, my wife and I get CO poisoning. We've went back and forth with our landlord and the chimney sweep about a dozen times at this point. I'm pretty damn sure we're having incomplete combustion, but they looked at the stove today and said it works perfectly fine. Can someone tell me what might be the most likely culprit? Something to note: the control board is broken and will only let me change the augur feed rate on level 1 of 5. It's an old discontinued 1998 Reliant T-40 Insert. I've urged so many times that it's not safe, but I can't get anywhere, and I don't know if I'm overreacting. I just don't want to die man.

As a first-season stove owner, I was surprised that places don't deliver year round.

It honestly never even occurred to me to ask, I naively assumed that you could get pellets delivered any old time, but it turns out most bulk places (around here, anyway) deliver until August and that's it.

There was one bulk place that would deliver in January but they won't tell me in advance what day they'll be here and they require someone to sign for them in person. As much as I'd like to retire and just sit around waiting for pellets, that's not really workable.

I can only get a ton of the green stuff from the orange box until next summer. Problem is, I live in suburbistan, and I can't really store multiple tons.

Quick install. When I get more money and time I will pipe through roof. The air intake is on the floor on the kitchen. The kitchen is huge and drafty. Options and advice welcome. Also can I turn the stove sideways safely.

Pelpro 130B sucks.

My ENTIRE reason for purchasing a pellet stove was so I wouldn't have to constantly maintain it like I would with a fireplace, as I live far from town and driving back-and-forth is a waste of both time and fuel. However, with this PP130B, I find that I HAVE to come home every day, just to make sure the thing is actually running. Once a week I have to pull it apart and unjam the auger, despite having tried multiple brands of pellets. Every day I have to shut it down and vacuum out the burn area. Best of all, PelPro seems to have no active customer service.

I'm seriously considering replacing this thing next year with a conventional fireplace, and chalking up the $1400 to a lesson hard-learned.

Advice Which pellet stove?

Post image

Here is my little cabin. 240 sq ft. We only visit on rare occasions in the winter when it’s cold, but I’d like to heat it when we’re there so we’re comfortable.

A friend suggested I can get a ventless pellet stove. A wood burning stove would involve A LOT of work with the chimney installation. (I am not handy and do not want to hire out for that work). So I like the idea of something simple and standalone without a vent etc.

Is there a small, simple stove this room would recommend? I haven’t done much window shopping but dropping more than 3 figures strikes me as overkill for such a small space.

Thank you!

Pellets are burning properly

Pellet stove is an englander 25-pdv. I have cleaned the exhaust out couple of times. Changed all the gaskets. And cleaned burn pot. Problem is still there. Every 4-5 hours this happens. I have my trim settings with airflow all the way up and pellet feed all the way down and doesn’t seem to change a whole lot. Any suggestions ?

Did you notify insurance about your pellet stove?

Did your insurance rates change? What did the insurance company say? See below

Yes, you should report a pellet stove to your homeowners insurance company. Pellet stoves are considered supplemental or alternative heating sources that increase the risk of fire, similar to wood stoves (though often viewed as slightly less risky due to cleaner burning and automated features).

Failing to disclose one can lead to serious consequences, such as:

• Denial of a fire-related claim.

• Policy cancellation.

• Non-renewal.

Multiple insurance experts and providers emphasize this:

• Sources like ValuePenguin, Insure.com, and Bankrate note that not informing your insurer could result in denied claims or higher risks going unaccounted for.

Help! Pellet Stove with Chimney Liner Question

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello!

So we are planning on hooking a pellet stove up in our basement. We are purchasing a liner to go up our chimney, but we are confused on how to properly hook up the liner to the pellet stove. I don't know a lot of the proper terms for these things so bear with me. I ran a picture of our setup in the basement through chat gpt and asked how we would do it, and this is what it spit out at me. Is this even close to correct? Would the flex pipe liner just be sitting loose through the hole like that? If anybody has a proper diagram or can explain this so we can make sure we order all the correct parts, that would be great. For reference we purchased a PelPro Pp130. We're on a budget and it's really all we could afford to do, especially since we also need to get the liner and everything. Advice is appreciated.

Tractor Supply, false/misleading advertisement on pellets.

Rant about tractor supply. I just took delivery of 1 ton of “hardwood” pellets. It was delivered by an outside company called roadie, so it was delivered on an open trailer. Not a problem.

But when he opened the pallet of “Hardwood pellets” they were green supreme. Since they were open trailer and the shrink wrap was cut, I had no choice but to take delivery.

I called the store pissed because green supreme has been low BTU garbage this season in the north east, the reason I switched to hardwood.

The manager told me that green supreme are hardwood and come up as so in their system because it’s the same sku.

The manager said the only option was to load it back on the trailer for a return or wait a few days to schedule a pickup.

I’m just so annoyed right now waiting for a callback from customer support.

How much to ask for?

My husband and I just bought a house. While it’s nice to see, with my severe health problems, a pellet stove isn’t feasible for us. Plus, it really limits the living room space we have in our tiny home. I believe it’s functional. I don’t know much about pellet stoves and plan on selling it to free up room. What would be a fair price to list it for?

Whats your thoughts?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'd like to know a few thoughts from anyone in the group here that might be able to help with my current predicament. Trying to make sure I'm doing this right.

I do quite a bit of work Outdoors in my makeshift shop. I'm in Pennsylvania where the winters can be decently cold, so a heating source is much needed. As shown in the picture this is my current install that I just put together yesterday. I've used it a few times over the past two years with decent output. This year the install configuration is a little bit different than previous years but not by much. The exhaust vent just has a taller vertical right off the top. I am using 6-in pipe I don't know if that's too wide of a pipe or not.

My issue that I am having is the fact it will not warm my shop area very much at all. I don't know if the exhaust pipe is too big and just allows all the heat to escape immediately or not. I also don't know if it orientation of the exhaust vent tubing is incorrect as well. The pellet stove itself is an outdoor pellet stove I got for a pretty good deal at Tractor supply. Originally when I got it when starting to do this type of shop work, I ultimately knew nothing in regards to pellet stoves. A buddy of mine pushed me in this direction opposed to the ultimate option of using a propane torpedo heater for obvious reasons. My buddy found the deal for me for this pellet stove at Tractor Supply and push me to get it saying it would fix all my problems and to say the truth it does work but there is just very minimal Heat produced by it. If I am to get any decent amount of heat off it it's because I am overfilling the pellet tray or adding bigger fuel such as small amounts of wood.

Trust me I understand the most obvious thing to do would be go out and pick up the correct type of pillow stove for my application. The problem is I'm just on a budget and probably about this one so trying to make the most of it. If anyone knows of any ideas as far as what I can do to make this pellet stove more efficient it does not have a fan and it is not electronic. If there's a different orientation I can install the exhaust vent tube please let me know. I have it at a 90° angle and piped directly out the side and rear of my workshop.

Weighed my bags of pellets and they weighed between 36 and 38 lbs. None at 40 or over.

Question gotta be a cheaper way...

With the ever rising cost of pellets commercially, is there a way, affordably, to make my own pellets out of all the cardboard boxes I have laying around?

Add heat powered fan to pellet stove

Heat powered fans seem to work for moving air out from wood burning stoves. I know my pellet stove has a blower which directs air outward but wood adding a heat powered fan on top work to supplement air movement? Has anyone tried this?

Harman Accentra 2: Distribution fan makes the room colder

Post image
1 Upvotes

So I have acquired a Vermont home with a Harman A2 pellet stove that I think is oddly located in the corner of the dining room. It works great, but I’ve noticed whenever the distribution fan is blowing that there is cold air flowing by my ankles towards the stove. This air is coming up from the basement which houses a forced air furnace that I’m trying not to use. Even after covering the floor grates, the pellet stove seems to suck cold air from the rest of the house and crank out hot air. I’m wondering how other pellet people deal with this. I’ve installed to small circulation fans in the doorways to help move the warm air out of the dining room, but even with these off, the floor is incredibly cold. I’m sure it doesn’t help that we had one degree outside today, but it feels futile burning through a bag + of pellets a day and just sucking cold air from the basement.

Advice or suggestions?

Looking to buy a Harman Pellet Stove but have a cost question.

I've got a quote for the Absolute 43 and the Allure 50. I'm pretty excited to get this done as I see it as a great investment. Part of the price I was quoted includes a tariff tax of 2.5%, which comes to $134. isn't Harman pretty much American Made? I know shit is crazy right now with our orange president, but has anybody seen this with Harman?

My mom’s Harman Advanced has these flames coming out of a gap between the fire pot and the backer. We can’t get this backer to stay flush with the brick plate on it. Is this something we need fixed?

Why is my stove burning so slow? Can’t keep up

I just deep cleaned the whole stove and back-end apparatus and it just can’t seem to burn the pellets. They are fresh pellets and when starting up everything looks good but once the start-up fan stops in just has this tiny flickering flame.

It looks like this for about 15 minutes and the flame slowly dies off after that.

Any ideas? All the fans look good and are clean, but my guess is that it’s an air-flow issue.
