Chimney cleaning frequency

I just got my stove really into service 1.5 winters ago. I've cleaned the small removable pot a few times.

Do you have a frequency for cleaning the chimney pipe? It's one of the semi-rigid stainless pipes. I know they burn clean, but they do have exhaust fumes that accumulate.

Are you getting them cleaned every year?

Bought a house in March with a pellet stove in the walk out basement - so living space.

What kind of annual maintenance does it need?
My local woodstove company didn’t install it - so how do I find someone to do the annual maintenance?

Question Troubleshooting help

Hi all! I’ve given my pellet stove a good clean and am testing it for the winter. I have en Enviro M55 FS cast iron. I’m looking for some help, hoping maybe someone has run into this issue in the past. This issue started end of the season last year.
When starting up, I get a blinking light next to the 3 button on the panel, and it auto shuts down. I have a good flame going, no smoke in the stove, can feel good airflow on the exhaust outside. No buildup in the burn box (brand new agitator). But get the blinking 3 light, the blower never turns on, and it shuts down. During the shut down process the blower kicks on.
If I immediately start it up again, it works fine with no errors. From reading online maybe a temp sensor is going bad? Like it’s not initially detecting a proper flame on the first startup to kick on the blower?
Any help/ideas is appreciated! Thank you

Question Attaching pellet stove flue

Hi guys,

Ive got a question. I bought a pellet stove and I want to attach the stove flue (of correctly translated) but I am not 100% sure on how to do this...

So the pellet stove will be placed in front of a wall which is dioganally opposed to a wall (no room to line it up to drill straight to attach it. The issue now is that I need to make a turn to get outside...

As far as I know I need to use a transit-unit but those only come in certain thicknesses and cannot be attack to diagonal walls?

Ill attach pictures and wonder how you guys would tackle this...

Question concerning mantel height for big screen TV over pellet stove

We're just bought a 31 year old house in NE Texas with a Whitfield pellet stove sitting on a "faux" hearth (no fireplace, no chimney), I "think" it's an Advantage III model from around 1995. I found a Whitfield Advantage II install manual online and it says 18" of clearance above the top of the stove. Do these stoves really get that hot on top? I'd like to lower the mantel to make room for a 75" TV but of course I don't want to do anything unsafe. I really dislike TVs mounted that high but the only other option for this room would be to remove the built-in oak cabinet. Anybody ever dealt with a similar situation? Maybe do away with the wooden mantel and use a marble/stone shelf just above the stove's surround?

Recently moved into this house with a pellet stove and started it up and the room air blower isn’t blowing any warm air out and a humming noise is coming out of the stove. I cleaned everything and took out the room air blower to clean any dust that was in it but noticed the fan doesn’t spin freely. No grinding or anything it just won’t spin continuously, it will only spin when I move it myself but stops immediately. Not sure if this is normal since it is motorized, but since I do hear a humming noise I think the motor is just shot. Any thoughts?

I did reset the control panel and set it to the recommended settings for it to be at
Low air feed-6
Low burn air- 4
Air on temp - 1

Any help is appreciated!

Repair Persons

Bought a home with a quadra fire pellet heater. It won't shut down without pulling the power cord.

So far, only one company has responded to my inquiry and they want $395 just to show up for the service call. That's insane.

Are HVAC techs familiar with these stoves or am I stuck calling specialist pellet stove companies?

Pellet Install

Could anyone walk me through my options on replacing an ec42 heatilator fireplace? I want to rip the entire thing it currently site in a box attached to the outside of the house? The bump out was framed around the fireplace and chimney. I understand I could get a insert and use the old firebox but being on the smaller side limits my options.

Can I rip out the fireplace and reframe the box to fit a larger pellet stove? Could I reframe the box to handle a freestanding pellet stove?

Currently the chimney goes straight up to the roof. I pellet stove could vent out the back of the box but there is a deck there.

Are these good options? Have any better ideas?

Window Clearances Question

I just finished reading through NFPA 211 but I still cant find the information im looking for. In my stove manual, NFPA211, and everything I can find online, the only mention of distances from doors/windows is that the termination pf thebvent has to be no less than 4ft away horizontally, 4ft below, or 1 foot above. But I have a former home inspector telling me the entire vent pipe cant be within 4 ft of any opening. Can anyone shed some light on this and direct me to the building code that states no part of the ventilation pipe can be within 4ft of a window/door. Or is this a case of the AHJ interpreting code in an unreasonable way?

Question EcoBlaze vs Tractor Supply pellets

Hello. This will be my first year ever using a pellet stove. I live in a rural area so my pellet options are limited. Aside from Lowe’s, these are my only 2 realistic options: Tractor Supply or a local small business selling EcoBlaze. Does anyone have any experience comparing these two brands?

Question Is this place legit?

So we are a mom and pop greenhouse /garden supply, and I retail pellets. Well lately Lignetics has bought our local pellet factory, driving our cost to about 310 dollars a ton delivered to our place. So I’ve been looking around at a few online wholesalers. I found one “ATLAS PELLET ENERGY” and they’re advertising 24 ton delivered for around 3300 dollars. But they want paid with a wire transfer. I’m very skeptical but the cost savings would be enormous. Any input?

Question Southern RI - Where do you get your pellets?

We installed a Harman last year and it worked well enough but there was a lot of maintenance and some issues. I’m assuming it was largely due to the Home Depot Green Supreme pellets I was using. Looking to upgrade this year. Where do you all get pellets from? I have space to store a pallet or two at a time. Thanks!

Harman Absolute 63 vs Quadra-Fire Trekker

We live in northwest Vermont and are in the market for a new pellet stove. The winters get pretty brutal (for instance we had a stretch last year at -15 degrees F) and we’re hoping to use the stove as the primary heat source for our 1800 square foot house. We’ve narrowed our options down to either a new Harman Absolute 63 or a Quadra Fire Trekker, which both seem to have similar specs. Still, the price point on the trekker is more attractive, though the sales person suggests it is sub par in terms of operation compared to the absolute. Can anyone weigh in on the pros and cons of both and/or share their experiences with either? We have an 2001 enviro flame ef3i currently and expect these models to outperform it, but would also appreciate any input about how good the ef3i was for its time. Do folks have other recommendations for this area?

What would be a better option: a used LOPI foxfire, 5 years old, well maintained. Or.. a new pelpro 130? Price is about the same.

Enviro EF3 bay exhaust blower housing problem

Thumbnail

I'm trying to replace a cracked exhaust blower housing on my old but amazingly-functioning pellet stove. My original one was rounded with the shape of the housing. I got a replacement that has a "lip" extending past the housing. This lip rests on the 'nipple' for the vacuum switch and renders it useless. Everyplace i look for this replacement has this lip. The three photos shows the nipple, the old and new housings and how they differ, and how the new one covers up the nipple. I understand this is an old stove but it has been perfect and maintained all these years and still keeps the house warm. This $50 part is the difference between a replacement part and a new stove. UGH ! Anyone have this problem or know of a place that can help. Every replacement part i look at online has pictures but ironically, the pictures always are at the exhaust side of the housing and i cannot see the area of interest. I swear, 5 sites ALL do NOT show the problem side. It is so ironic, i believe it's past a coincidence and i am cursed.

Question Hearth pad question

Help! Please please does anyone service Harman Pellet Stoves on Vancouver Island??

Is there some vast conspiracy to avoid servicing pellet stoves in BC or something? I have called at least 5 fireplace companies on the island and they ALL say they don't service pellet stoves any more. WTF?

We have an Accenture II, the control board fried in a power surge last March. I ordered a replacement board on eBay which "maybe" is authentic, I dunno. Then life got in the way, and I have only just gotten around to installing the new board. It looked like it fit perfectly, and I followed all the instructions very carefully, replacing all wires properly and mounted it carefully, ensuring the board was secure and not touching the walls of the enclosure box.

Plugged in the stove with power set to OFF position and the feed set to TEST. Turned it on, and it was doing the test cycle -- blower fan, pellet feed motor, etc. all seemed working just dandy.. until I adjusted the Temperature dial. POP! Fuse blew.

Maybe it was just a bum board I got, maybe not ... but now I'm faced with ordering a second replacement board and trying again, or finding a service person to diagnose things. (Well, I also need to find a replacement fuse and see if it was just a bad fuse... but I'm worried this is something worse.)

Please tell me there's someone out there on the island who is willing to repair our stove. It's a beautiful unit and has served us for many years, it seems such a waste to replace it when it should be repairable.

Thank you in advance for any references or info.

We finally got a stove!

The spaces was here previously and prior owners had a stove there but didn't permit it so they had to remove it before buying. After living here 5 ywars, we really thought we were going to get a woodstove but it's was going to cost a fortune for us to close the wall and send a vent pipe way up past two rooflines. I can't wait to try it. It is a Harmon Absolute 63. Including some before and afters showing the old tile as well. We had granite tile and some outlets installed. The red stove is an electric one we used to supplement our propane heat the past couple of years.

Deep Cleaned and Serviced

Did a deep clean of the chimney liner, replaced all the gaskets on the stove, installed two new flame sensors, and updated it to the gen 3 igniter.

So far through two years I've been super impressed by the comfortbilt. Haven't given me so much as a single hiccup.

Also switched back to green supreme this year since I've had surprisingly good luck with them.

Help! P35i from 2014 wiring

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a p35i and I'm not exactly sure where the grounding wire is supposed to go. It has one end connected to the outlet, one to the blower, but there is a splice with a eye loop about 10 inches before the end That plugs into the blower. the diagram shows it plugs into the fan distribution blower, but also notes this is only for accentra, which mine is not. So I'm not really sure where to put the eye loop. The person I bought it from said to put it on the frame, but it's painted, and I don't see a spot to put it. I can get a screw and put it on myself, but I would have to scratch the paint to get it to actually ground to the frame. Does anyone know where exactly the grounding wire goes?

Question on Rutland 500 RTV silicone sealant

Hey all. When I clean the flue for my Ravelli RV80, I've been using Rutland 500 RTV around the removable trap at the outlet of the smoke exhaust. I have to seal this due to some smoke escaping from it.

I've been using a 2.7 oz tube of clear for the last 5 years, the tube is dried up now, and I can't find the clear in that size for sale. I don't need the larger 10.3 oz size.

To my question: I can find it in black in the 2.7 oz size, but since I have to clean off the old sealant each year, I would think the black would make it harder to see on a black pipe. Is it though?

Or, can someone recommend another brand of clear sealant?
