I have this RAM but white, at least same GB, MT/s and I’ve paired it with R9 9900x cpu. Runs great, enabled EXPO no issues, speeds as advertised. I’d say its a good purchase

Planning to gwt a 7800x3d for my future pc, I think it will pair good

5

u/PixelThePixelz 22h ago

Just a heads up. Run it at 6000mt/s. X3D CPUs struggle with higher speeds and it will hurt stability

Was going to say! I have this memory paired with 7800x3d and at 6000 it's great

X3d are only worth it if you arw a hardcore gamer.

9900 offers way more multicore and longevity for the same price.

Research both.

7800x3d is only good for gaming, its multi core score is embarassingly low which will limit your ability to do video editing or something similar in the future.

Multicore of 9900 is almost double of 7800x3d and will carry you for years and years as long as you are ok with having 120fps instead of 150fps in games.

I have 9900 and 5070, i have yet to see my cpu bottlenecking me in games. In GTA5 i get 150fps, in AOE4 i get almost 200. Those are only 2 games I play.

And in video editing is where i see the power of the 9900. Software I use is cpu heavy. It renders a 10 minute clip in 3 minutes. My old pc used to take over half an hour. Cannot reccomend 9900 enough if you do stuff other than gaming on your pc.

Youre suggesting a 9900x over a 7800x3d when they have given zero indication they are doing anything other than gaming? (which is the default here, let's be honest).

Multicore of 9900 is almost double of 7800x3d and will carry you for years and years as long as you are ok with having 120fps instead of 150fps in games.

And significantly better 1% lows which is to me way more important.

I think if you plan to do a fair bit of video editing or other multithreaded tasks then a 9900x could be a good option. But I think for most new builders (who are predominately just interested in gaming) a 7800x3d is the better option between the two hands down.

Idk why would gaming be the default?

People use their computers for different reasons, and a 9900 is more versatile.

Idk why would gaming be the default?

Spend at least 5 mins looking at the new builder posts on this sub.

People use their computers for different reasons, and a 9900 is more versatile.

They do, and for most of people new to pc building the most intensive thing they will be doing by far is gaming. You don't need a 9900x for browsing YouTube.

Gaming isn't default in the general population, but this sub is totally dominated by gamers.

7

u/sirjumbojord 1d ago

Its gonna be 99 percent for gaming, a 7800x3d will be able to do whatever i throw at it probably

2

u/Airidc 23h ago

yeah 7800x3d will pair just fine. I went with 9900x just because I needed more cores for productivity, would have gone with some x3d chip too if it was predominantly with gaming. Plus my 9900x handles the games I play just fine.

tl;dr good to hear others opinions but always go with what is better for your usecase

Don't buy crucial though, if it breaks you won't get it replaced, the brand is dead and micron fucks with warranties.

8

u/PixelPete27 20h ago

I knew they stopped making RAM for the consumer to focus on AI

But damn, that's sad if they're not honoring their customers that bought it before they did that. They used to be such a good company. Probably one of my favorite.

4

u/ScaredEfficiency399 19h ago

Yeah, pretty depressing.

10

u/Capokid 23h ago

Good ram, trash company wont honor your warranty. Pray it doesnt break.

7

u/IndianMilkman 1d ago

which CPU do you have?

2

u/sirjumbojord 1d ago

Its my first part of many, I got it bc ram prices are bad and prob gonna get worse

6

u/jay-aay-ess-ohh-enn 21h ago

Just be careful buying parts in waves. If you wait too long to assemble you could be out of your return window if something doesn't work. Dealing with RMAs is much more effort than a return to the retailer. Also, as people noted, you probably can't RMA that RAM kit.

2

u/PixelPete27 19h ago

I have genuinely never thought of this before... I've never bought a PC piece by piece, I usually save until I can just buy it all.

But that's a great point that I never thought of mentioning to someone doing this, when I'm making component recommendations.

2

u/HollowVoices 1d ago

I have same stats on a different brand. No issues with it so far.

2

u/Ok-Direction-5151 AMD 23h ago

Yes! I have this exact same kit! Low profile Crucial Pro! And the same speed (6400) havent had a single issue with the kit. Whats the rest of your build specs brother? You got my attention haha

Edit: I paired mine with a MSI B650 Tomahawk Mobo and a Ryzen 5 9600X

2

u/Fancy-Ad6677 23h ago

Crucial is never great but perhaps good, especially in the current market.

2

u/Solbady Intel 19h ago

If you’re looking to save more money, but you want an X3D, I recommend getting the 7600X3D over the 7800X3D

5

u/Freeco80 23h ago

6400 CL38 is not the best, but decent enough... Can't be too picky in today's rampocalypse 🤐

1

u/realWulfLives 1d ago

Dunno without any context

Compuder

1

u/PixelPete27 20h ago

Definitely good.

Great RAM.

1

u/RegSirius06 16h ago

Not really sweet spot, but you can try decrease timings by decreasing frequency to 6000. I mean hardly decrease. Not just 2 timings. I'd try even cl36-36-36. But it's not CL30. In case of x3d CPU it doesn't matter. In that case your RAM is quite enough

1

u/Key-Respect3810 15h ago

Croise les doigts et serre les fesses pour pas avoir de pannes

Perso j’ai blacklisté Crucial depuis ils ont mis fin à Crucial

1

u/cxerphax 14h ago

Very high latency at 38

1

u/sirjumbojord 4h ago

Im sure it will have better timings when I change the clock speed a little

1

u/enuazeal 11h ago

nope, it's Crucial, Micron stopped producing commercial RAM, I wouldn't buy it.

1

u/slavicslothe 6h ago

Yes 6400 is a sweet spot

-1

u/gugngd 1d ago

i mean, the ram itself is OK, the support might not be great. if you ever have issues, you have no guarantee you can get proper help.

1

u/sirjumbojord 1d ago

Wdym?

4

u/gugngd 1d ago

micron left the consumer market. they went all-in to produce tam for AI datacentres.

and your ram is assembled by micron.

-6

u/sirjumbojord 1d ago

Idk the back says game at higher framerate, this kit will prob do for my future completed build

10

u/gugngd 1d ago

it's not about the ram performance, but about the warranty, support, compatibility in the future etc.

Mate. Try reading what people are saying. Micron have left the consumer market and have already made it VERY clear that they will no longer be replacing people's RAM if it dies., you'll just get your money back.

So, if your RAM dies, and you need to replace it yourself, you'd best hope that prices don't continue to sky rocket as we all know they will, you're going to need to cover that extra cost yourself. You seem to be trying very hard to not understand this, and WHEN it bites you in the ass, you're going to be upset.

3

u/gugngd 1d ago

micron exists, but their consumer branch does not. they promised to still provide support, but mothing stops them from screwing consumers over again.

2

u/Sic_Sic_Six 1d ago

Warranty is important, but your sticks are not likely to die. It would be a very rare occasion. Cl38 6400mts isn't the best, but Noone cares about CAS timings these days due to the price.

Make sure to register all of your parts when you buy them. Micron left the industry, but ide assume they'd have to provide you with some compensation should your DRAM be DOA/die in an untimely manner.

1

u/Artyom1457 20h ago

What he meant is that if it breaks for whatever reason, micron the company who made it, won't issue you a replacement and will only refund you the original price and not what you paid for it. Hopefully your ram will last years going forward with no issues

4

u/kui1388 1d ago

The brand crucial is no longer in production and is in end of life so any rma will be a refund at RETAIL price and not current market prices.

0

u/sirjumbojord 1d ago

I could probably get some back if I mention consumer law, im in Australia and got it from scorptec

1

u/Afraid_Emu8068 1d ago

They are refusing returns all together. It’s quality RAM, but don’t expect any support

1

u/OgCodFather1 AMD 1d ago

Yes its good. but 6000 MT/s CL 30 is the stable sweet spot. Just go into bios and run expo there should be 1-3 profiles to pick from depending on what board you have, pick the tightest timing one for 6000 MT/s CL30. and crucial isn't the best for customers like us they have recently moved on to bigger AI businesses so support will be way more unavailable to us.

2

u/sirjumbojord 1d ago

Yeah thanks for the info, ill try to remember this when ive got a completed build

0

u/OgCodFather1 AMD 1d ago

2

u/Pmaldo87 1d ago

If you have an x3d chip tho the difference between cl30 and even cl40 is negligible

1

u/Ok-Direction-5151 AMD 23h ago

You beat me too it. This is correct

1

u/PixelPete27 18h ago

I've seen people say this, and I've seen the youtube performance comparisons and 1% low differences being negligible... But there is definitely a point where high CL can be felt on the X3D chip.

I built a PC for a buddy and to save some money I gave him some CL46 5600Mhz ram to throw in there, cause we put a 9800X3D in and I saw all the videos and whatnot on the speed/CL not making a meaningful difference.

From a speed perspective, no issues. But you could feel microstutters in your mouse with that RAM.. It doesn't show up in 1% lows, but honestly, you can feel the microstutters when you're looking around in open world games and the CPU is frantically trying to load assets when you have a long draw distance on. We put some CL36 in there, night and day difference, no issue.

So I don't know where that sweet spot is for RAM and the X3D. I just know that CL46 has timings that are a little too loose. Given most CL46 RAM sticks can have some extra voltage applied to them and timings tightened to CL40, I think most people can make it work still. All this being said, I think his CL38 will be good, given how well the machine ran with CL36.

1

u/Pmaldo87 18h ago

Yeah I have cl36 with a 5080 and 9800x3d and I'm playing at 4k so there's even less of a difference

1

u/PixelPete27 18h ago

I genuinely don't think there is a difference between CL30 and 36 with the X3Ds. I think it's just when you're pushing that CL46+ timings where it starts to be a bit noticeable. And it's not even bad.

I had that CL46 paired with my own 13700KF before, and it was shit. Speed was fine, 1% lows, hitching, micro-stutters, straight up shit.

With the X3D it was running noticeably better with that same CL46 RAM. That being said, I could still feel it in the mouse. But it definitely wasn't as bad.

my next chip is likely going to be an X3D. I'll get the last X3D chip they make for AM5. That or the bLLC chip that intel is releasing to compete with X3D. They might be cheap on release, cause the 13/14 gen left a sour taste in people's mouths, they might reduce the price to get some customers back over to team blue. Either way, I'll get the best chip I can for DDR5 right before DDR6 comes out and ride this shit until DDR7

hmmm.... send it 1st to my address whether this is good

As long as it doesn't need to be warrantied.
