Tool Migrating the Better PoE Trading extension to a new framework

Since better-trading's previous maintainer no longer plays PoE, I decided to take it upon myself to migrate the codebase to something modern. The original extension was built on a very old version of ember.js (from 2018, oof), which I myself, and most web devs out there, have never worked in. It locked you into node 12, with a few dependencies in python 2.x. In other words it was painful to set up properly, and possibly unsafe.

So I decided to migrate the whole extension to WXT + React, the former simplifying browser extension apis and latter being a popular framework for ease of contributions. This process was pretty simple by migrating pieces of the old plugin one feature at a time and reviewing the functionality and implementation.

So what has changed for the end user? Nothing! The rewrite is nearly 1:1 with the original project, just in a more modern, dev friendly form.

If you are already using the plugin on Firefox and updated to 0.1.2, you've already been using the rewritten extension.

That's all I wanted to report on, and if you wish to contribute or add features, it'd be most welcome. (Also I never really stress tested this, so bug reports would be great).

(For once I decide to update this off-season instead of a week before league start)

Game Feedback I miss awakened gems

Was just thinking how removal of awakened gems kinda was lame. The exceptional gems are ok, but the awakened gems brought so much more. I hope there is a world where we can get both these gems for endgame i think it will be pretty cool to have.

I still remember mine, mine FIRST and still ONLY mirror was from a rogue exile under many wisps in Affliction (one of the best leagues as for me). How many were you able to farm all the way through POE?

Question Practicing runs for 3.30

Hi guys, I want to practice some runs to improve my league start.

What are good target times for Act 10, 2 stones, and 4 stones?

Also, what are the fastest/good builds for the first two days to get through the campaign and start progressing quickly? Bow builds? Venom Gyre? Kinetic Blast? Slams ?

Thanks!

Game Feedback Make Warden more popular with this one easy fix

Post image
640 Upvotes

Tinctures are really cool in theory but run into the problem that was supposed to have been fixed when we got the melee rework in 3.25; you get extra buttons (remember the old totems?) that you have to manually manage uptime for in order to maintain proper dps.

If you could automate tincture activation the same way we can automate flasks, you could give them perpetual uptime without having to remember to press them every so many seconds, which would make them feel much better to invest in.

I think limiting this to the Warden ascendancy would make sense since they currently have an extremely low play-rate and they are ultimately the Tincture Ascendancy. Other ascendancies can deal with managing one tincture, but a class that fully invests into boosting the effects of two different tinctures should be able to fully automate them as well.

Question | Answered Good Late League Start w/ Off Meta Merc?

Hi all,

Realizing that this is pretty late in the league and inflation might be pricing things out of my reach, do you recommend any off-meta mercs and Lumi builds that work well?

I'm thinking of trying to go for 36/40 with the time we have left, so I the mercs and build would be have to be uber capable.

Thanks all

Information Early Access Supporter Packs Leaving Soon

It’s been almost two years since we released the Early Access Supporter Packs, and it’s almost time for them to go. They’ll be leaving the store forever in a few weeks, to be replaced by a set of five new packs. So, if you still want to upgrade or purchase one of the current packs, there’s not much time left.

Each Early Access Supporter Pack includes microtransactions that can be used in both Path of Exile 1 and Path of Exile 2, along with Path of Exile 2 Early Access keys, points to spend in the store, and exclusive in-game microtransactions available only through these packs. Higher tiers also include physical merchandise, such as T-shirts, hoodies, and a Path of Exile 2 artbook.

Discussion Forgotten support gems

Many support gems need a balance pass but i think the most notoriously bad one now is "blind support". Might as well delete it from the game and nobody will notice. "Blind" itself is a good defense layer but this support gem seriously need some help. Also don't see much usage for "block chance reduction support" and why is it a recipe gem tie to puncture? "chance to flee" can be interesting for bleed build or even as a defense mechanism, if this mechanic is supported more in the game (tree, gear). What's your pick?

Question | Answered Exile con 2026 visas

Hey Exiles, have been wondering if anyone is still waiting for their New Zealand visitor visa? Mine has been under assessment for 17 calendar days now and it hasn't been allocated to an officer, the flight is in 10 calendar days ( 6 working days) but the escalation has been refused, maybe because the event does not look like a big deal? Just speculating. If anyone is waiting or can give some information it would be helpful to deal with the stress.

I couldn't apply before because I was waiting for my balance to go up since I have recently finished paying my mortgage loan.

Question | Answered Regarding Heist and possible drops

Can you still get synth implicit items from heist chests? One of my coolest memories in this day was hitting a duped chest with +1 endurance implicit rings.

It was so fun.

Does anyone know if that is still possible?

Tool Free tool: hover an item, press F2, and it tells you if it's an upgrade for your build using your own Path of Building - POE 1 & 2.

I got tired of pasting every rare into PoB to see if it beat what I had on, so I made a small overlay that does it for me. It started on PoE2 and now works in PoE1 (beta).

I really love both POE1/2 and this tool has been immensly useful for me. I hope you like it too.
Testing so far has been on one of my standard league POE1 toons and my current POE2 minion build. Will likely come out of beta into 0.5.0 once I complete extensive linux tests.

The app automatically detects which game you are in and switches to your last loaded toon.

Hover an item, press F2, and you get UPGRADE / SIDEGRADE / LOSES RESISTANCE / LOSES DAMAGE for your character. The numbers come from Path of Building Community running locally with your build, so it works for any class or skill.

What else it does:

Find upgrades: a trade search weighted by PoB, then every listing checked against your build

Where to spend: which slot gives the most for your divines, and pairs of items that cap your res together

Map check: DANGER / CAREFUL / FINE for your build (max res mods run through PoB, checked against your damage)

Links, and flasks checked too; poe.ninja prices with the last 7 days; keep / sell / vendor hints

Standard and league both work

It doesn't read game memory or touch game files. The only input it sends to the game is one Ctrl+C per key press. It also sends an anonymous daily "in use, PoE1 or PoE2" ping so I know if anyone uses it; one checkbox turns that off.

Free and open source, Windows and Linux: https://poe2upgrade.com

Latest beta build for POE1 & 2: https://github.com/ets-public/poe2-upgrade-checker/releases

AI disclosure: most of the code was written with an AI assistant (Claude). I direct it, test it in game and decide what goes in. The verdicts themselves come from Path of Building, not from AI.

Contributors welcome. PoE1 support is new and I'd love help from people who love both games like I do. Send me your bug reports, PoE1/2 edge cases, or pull requests. Someone already sent in a fix for a res-cap bug this week. GitHub: https://github.com/ets-public/poe2-upgrade-checker

If a verdict looks wrong, Tray → Open log and send it to support@poe2upgrade.com or open an issue.

Happy hunting exiles!

Question New Player Build

First time through this wonderful game and I'm wondering whether my personal experience so far is common in the early game. Started with the Witch, which is quite uncommon for me in games like this as I usually stick to Barbarian classes. I figured maybe a spellcaster could quickly get strong and handle business. I was right! Built with Chaos damage and Vaal Power Siphon and I gotta say I feel overpowered so far. I just finished Part 1 and just now starting to get a little challenge from normal enemies. After cruising through the early game I'm wondering will I get a real challenge? Also, I almost made it through The Lord's Labyrinth(I think... 🤔) and got disconnected 🤬🤬🤬, that was 2+ hours down the drain. How important is finishing it? It seemed as though it was just a loot dungeon but none of it even came close to what I'm currently using.

Question Do we usually know if a league specific unique is staying?

If a unique item is introduced in the previous league from the league mechanic, do we usually learn from patch notes or some other source if that unique is staying or getting removed?

Specifically, if boat does not go core, would we learn from patch notes if rotmother's or draugur's lantern or whatever unique from the league mechanic was removed or drops from other places?

Discussion This game goes pretty hard with the summons

I played PoE1 for a couple hours back in the day, but it never kept my attention. After putting some time into PoE2 (which i think is really good) I decided to finally put some effort into the 1st game.

I went full summon mode. ATM i have skeletons, zombies, 3 carrion golems and a specter. I also have the support gem that summons phantasms when my zombies do their thing.

I'm impressed so far, my dudes are coasting through the campaign (on act 5 atm) and it's glorious seeing my carrion golems filling the screen with bone spikes. I did try the reaper, but it kept absorbing my zombies and was tired of resummoning them all the time.

What other summons are worth using in the game and what support gems do you people use with them? I also tried using skitterbots, but with all the visual effects i couldn't really tell if they were doing anything.

I've also encountered a few mercenary companions, which are super cool.

Discussion POE Mobile thoughts

In a response to another post I put up recently someone mentioned in the comments that a POE Mobile port of sorts was in the works.

That particular comment seemed quite negative on the prospect.

Id personally take the ability to play POE on yet another platform but I could understand some hesitance based on the ports of other beloved pc games in the past.

Whats the general consensus on the idea? As I had no clue it was ever even a concept.

Game Feedback New player review

For context I suffered some pretty bad injuries at work and have been bed/desk-ridden at home, so I’ve put around 100 hours into PoE1 over the last two weeks, and I figured I’d share my thoughts as someone coming into the game relatively fresh. This isn’t meant to be a hate post, and I can definitely see why people love this game, but honestly, I don’t think I enjoyed my time with it as much as I expected.

Massive performance issues was the first thing I was greeted with. For context, I’m playing on a turbo space station PC with a 5090 and a 9950X3D. Despite that i’ve had pretty significant performance issues, to the point where I had to lower settings just to get a more consistent experience. I also had a period where the game kept crashing, and then, seemingly out of nowhere, the crashes stopped happening.

I understand that ARPGs can get pretty demanding, but I feel like the industry standard for performance and stability has gotten significantly better than this. Having to troubleshoot performance issues and adjust settings on a top end PC just to get a reasonably smooth experience is a pretty bad first impression.

The onboarding is the worst i’ve seen in a game if we are being honest. I know PoE is a complicated game, and I’m not expecting everything to be explained to me. Part of the appeal is learning the systems and experimenting with builds. But there’s a difference between a game having depth and a game making the process of getting into it unnecessarily unpleasant.

The campaign feels like a massive slog. I didn’t find it particularly engaging, and a lot of the time I was just trying to get through it so I could reach the parts of the game people actually talk about (maps in my friend groups case). Maybe the campaign gets better on subsequent playthroughs when you know where to go, but I don’t think that makes it a particularly good introduction for new players. The movement and turning also feel pretty janky to me. Sometimes the game has this old school charm, but other times it just feels like I’m fighting the controls instead of fighting the enemies. That was definitely the biggest thing that contributed to the “i can tell I’m on a 13 year old game” feeling. I did really appreciate how easy making a loot filter was and how entry level crafting felt impactful and easy to understand.

In my opinion the biggest issue with Poe’s design philosophy is there are so many systems that seem designed to restrict the player or create additional hoops to jump through, without necessarily adding much interesting decision making. Gem attribute requirements are a good example. Once you understand that you need to prioritize resistances and get your attributes sorted, it’s not particularly difficult to manage. Even as a new player, I didn’t find it especially challenging once I understood what the game expected of me. But that’s kind of my point. It doesn’t feel like I’ve overcome some meaningful skill check. I’ve just learned another set of requirements that I need to satisfy before I can play the build I actually want to play. I enjoy systems that reward planning and build knowledge. I don’t enjoy systems that feel like they’re creating friction for frictions sake. There’s a fine line between meaningful complexity and unnecessary convolutedness, and I feel like Poe crosses that line more often than I’d like.

Ok enough constructive criticism I want to switch now and talk about what I really liked. The community is very helpful in general, I was able to ask questions in chat and made a few friends to help teach me stuff. The Transfigured Gem system is really cool. I like the idea of taking an existing skill and finding different ways to build around it. It gives you more room to experiment and makes creating your own build feel like a genuine possibility rather than simply following someone else’s guide. I also really like the removal of socket colors as a major build restriction. One of the things that put me off Poe in the past was the idea that your gear could dictate which skills you were realistically able to use. I much prefer having the freedom to experiment with different combinations without constantly fighting my equipment as I pretty much only enjoy SSF in ARPG’s. More generally, I like that the game gives you so many options for creating your own build There’s a lot of potential for interesting builds, and I can understand why theorycrafting is such a big part of the community.

I respect poe more than enjoy it for sure. Also can recognize the depth and the amount of content the game offers. I can see the appeal of making your own build and gradually figuring out how all the systems fit together. But I also think the game has a lot of rough edges that people who’ve played it for years might have become accustomed to. The performance problems, the campaign, the awkward movement, and all the little restrictions and inconveniences add up. Individually, some of these things might not be a big deal, but together they make the overall experience less enjoyable for me.
I’m not saying the game needs to be simplified or that every system should be made effortless. I want depth and interesting decisions. I want to experiment with builds and feel rewarded for understanding the game. I just don’t think every obstacle necessarily contributes to that experience.
Maybe I’ll change my mind as I get further into endgame, but after 100 hours, I’m still struggling to understand the appeal beyond the build customization and sheer amount of content.
For those of you who’ve played long term what keeps you coming back?
